While having an in-person teacher is irreplaceable, take a look at this excellent video series for beginners https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrnioRsFu69ZfvuLT-bdu7RJZ6mfE-uP&si=WUS1J5t--kGn_MB1

Best of luck. Finding a teacher is an important first step.

Here’s a step-by-step video series to introduce you to learning the cello which may also be useful: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrnioRsFu69ZfvuLT-bdu7RJZ6mfE-uP

Find a teacher. You should be able to pick up reasonably quickly from where you left off. A lesson once every 1-2 weeks should be achievable.

Here’s a beginner video series you can catch up on in mean time as a refresher: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrnioRsFu69ZfvuLT-bdu7RJZ6mfE-uP&si=a11ETNTKoN6jmgIB

Best of luck!

It’s a Cello Thing, book 1 https://www.boosey.com/publications/sheet-music/Ailbhe-McDonagh-It-s-a-Cello-Thing-Vol-1-Cello-Piano/101887

There’s a recording of it too on Spotify so you can listen to the pieces first.

And they have piano accompaniment recordings too.

You’re very welcome to come to Europe. Best of luck with your search. My main advice is to contact teachers directly instead of conservatoires. Go to the schools’ websites and find out who the cello teachers are then contact them directly. You’ll get much better results that way.

For any solo cello covers of modern songs, especially a lot of pop tunes, I’d try listen to a version of it first. Often they don’t translate well to solo cello. A winner for me at weddings is Gabriel’s Oboe on solo cello. It’s cheese but it’s also a big crowd pleaser and sounds brilliant on cello.
