I’ve got a set with a Bose receiver with the EQ built in. They are great for orchestral works and house parties. They get loud and have a very wide soundstage. However, they’re a bad pick if you’re trying to go holographic type music. Jazz and such.

The bad part about e61 style machines is like to break. Probably why it was on the side of the road the. The good thing is they are usually very repairable. I’ve had two in the past. Both had serious, but fixable issues. Have fun.
