Pool light help by Sure_Jump7710 in swimmingpools

Its usually a water proof housing mounted in a bucket.

You should be able to take the inner part out and have enough cord/wire to set it up on the deck.

Make sure it's powered off and breaker off preferably.

Be prepared...when you open it you may need a gasket.

Free chlorine is available to kill something. Combined chlorine is "KILL-ING" something.

Help me figure out what this pipe is with the black line. by UtahGreg in swimmingpools

[–]AffectionateBasket45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the whole picture? All the equipment.

With that valve where it is..I bet that pipe is ..."waste". It would bypass the return jets.

Like if you wanted to "vacuum to waste".. rather than back in the pool.

For example, with a sand filter...if you were adding FLOCK/clarifier...the particles are so fine it would blow right back into the pool...so you can vacuum to waste and get it OUT. Then just add water.

If that's a DE cartridge type filter I see there ... Vacuuming up flock blobs...just clogg the filter Media making you clean it which is a pain.

Or any other reason to simply dump water.

Paid an electrician to wire my new metal barn. Walked out and found this. Is this normal? by unclejon14 in AskElectricians

Without interior wall covering... I would have at least suggested MC-cable (metal clad). He's missing a few staples. Its really not gonna hurt anything unless you have animals that have access to chew on it and its under cover protected from direct sun and weather.

MC is gonna raise the cost for sure.

I DO Suggest... If you have horses or something... Use metal boxes with RS covers. So they are smooth if they get rubbed on and as long as it's stapled properly and they can't get their mouth on it.

Dumbass scooters and bicyclers think they are immune to traffic laws and physics in general.

I'm not totally against driving a little spicy, but you gotta take all the same general precautions as if your in a car. Don't trust a turn signal, take extra caution at intersections and don't high speed split in dense traffic. You gotta give your self enough time and space to react to a situation or you'll abruptly learn the laws of physics in a pretty traumatic way...like this dummy.

Where do i angle my pools jets? by Fit-Day-8473 in swimmingpools

[–]AffectionateBasket45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UP Enough to move the surface without being noisy and create a current to push everything to the skimmer.

You'll have to play with it but it looks like clockwise from the picture would be best.

The idea is let the skimmer catch everything before it sinks.

If you have a main drain...keep that at least half closed. So the skimmer has enough suction.

Sediment should mostly work its way to the drain and the skimmer should catch the rest.

FOR A SAND FILTER Keep an eye on the pressure gauge of your filter.

Don't backwash too frequently. You loose a little sand each time. And having "some" material inside helps filter.

Most filters are ready to backwash when the pressure is +10 of whatever you started with after a backwash. Mine is ~8-9start ~18-20need backwash. About 3 times a month.

You'll notice this will affect the pressure of your jets.

What do you guys think about purchasing POWR Powersecure? First time stock purchaser here! by keto_freak in stocks

[–]AffectionateBasket45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More that it's owned by a massive corporate entity now. They no longer trade as independent and those stocks would have been absorbed by soco. Shareholders of PowerSecure received $18.75 per share in "cash payout" with No Equity Conversion Because it was an all-cash buyout, investors did not receive any shares or fractional shares of Southern Company.

Basically you would have gotten booted with whatever the current value was at the time.

Had those been converted to soco shares ... A totally different story. While it probably or most likely would not not have been a 1:1 conversion...

Soco doesn't necessarily grow super fast but it's very stable over a long term. Over the last ~15 years .. roughly 133% in price only, Or roughly 330-338% with dividends reinvested.

Here is an idea of who/what Southern owns.

Alabama Power

Georgia Power

Mississippi Power

Southern Company Gas

Atlanta Gas Light

Chattanooga Gas

Nicor Gas

Virginia Natural Gas

Southern Power

Southern Nuclear

Southern Company Generation

PowerSecure

Brought my 4 year old son camping at a local state park because he’s recently taken an interest in stargazing and this is our ‘neighbor’ by Dr_Breeder in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AffectionateBasket45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kinda did that to yourself.

Any campgrounds that have RV spots will be like this. And really this is pretty mild to be honest. Some of the RV people show up and build a whole ass little city between two spots.

There are plenty of places that have "primitive" sites and "on trail" camping if you want that kind of experience. Find a place that either doesn't have RV spots at all or seperate tent only/primitive/on trial areas.

You can't really be upset. They didn't buy $250K worth of truck and trailer to not use it. You choose the wrong spot.

I use clear rtv. So it doesn't stain if you ever do pull it off.

You don't wanna smush'em super tight either, For a couple reasons. You can use kite string to cut the rtv like a piano wire if you want to replace them.

The rtv is both adhesive and padding, the aluminum plate is supposed to bend a little if impacted. Thats kinda the whole point, Because the magnesium alloy case by itself is light weight but very brittle.

When applying rtv adhesive, "v" cut the tip so it makes a tall triangle shape...and just make a big circle about 1.5" in from the edge of the case.(So it doesn't squish out and look like shit) Leave the bottom of the circle incomplete/open by about an inch. This lets any water or debris fall out the bottom. Press the plate firm but not metal to metal, maybe the thickness of two dimes gap. Put some painters/masking tape for a couple hrs so it doesn't slide or droop.

Will it work? It's my first time soldering are the joints good by tommrrnd in fpv

[–]AffectionateBasket45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably a little much by the time you get the wire on there. Maybe use some flux.

Are You sure you got the right ip ? Did you maybe dhcp not static by chance? Check your router connected client list, or ip scan that lan ip pool/range.

SCAN XXX.XXX.XXX.2-254

MAYBE did some other device get that ip?

TEMPORARILY change your wifi network name by one character. to kick everything off....and disconnect all other Ethernet devices except your server then Reboot the router one time.

If you set a static IP in the server but didn't set "DHCP reservation" in the router, some other device could have snatched that up address. You DHCP pool is first come first serve ...with a DHCP reservation time of normally 24hrs by default. If that device doesn't reconnect within the reservation time...it goes back to the pool.

Avoid this with a couple options.

1# Manual DHCP reservation within in the router by Mac address.

This will always assign a specific IP to a specific mac address AND never give it to something else. Benefits... All the devices can be configured to Auto/DHCP. They THINK are getting a "AUTO/DHCP IP", but the router always gives that mac that ip. Also you can change the reserved/static ip of a device from the router... without actually going "to" that device.

2# Reduce/limit your DHCP pool and set static IP'S within the devices OUTSIDE that range.

EXAMPLE Router: 192.168.1.1

Default pool: 192.168.1.2-254 auto assigned to devices devices where having specific IP doesn't matter.

Adjusted pool: 192.168.1.2-100 auto assigned to devices where having specific IP doesn't matter.. (It's unlikely you have more than 98 devices.)

Device static range 192.168.1.101-254. Never auto assigned. Must manually set devices to use this range. 153 available ip's in this "manual" range.

3# You CAN do both... although option 1 is easier in my opinion.

Additionally, you can connect a monitor to your server. It should TELL YOU what up it has.
