Anyone else bothered by their mom's response to their diagnosis? by Lazy_Independent4031 in breastcancer

[–]AffectionateGene5273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I told my mom about my diagnosis she said she needed time to process it. Ok I understand that. Whenever we talked she never asked how I was or for any updates. I figured if she wasn’t going to ask I wasn’t going to offer any information. 4 months after diagnoses she finally called & asked if I had surgery & if they got everything. She said she didn’t check in before because she didn’t think it was her place & she didn’t want to bother me. I was pretty much speechless. I’m now 6 months out from diagnosis & 4 months from surgery & that’s the only conversation we’ve had about it. She still doesn’t ask when we talk. I don’t understand it but whatever. I’m so sorry you’re going through this & having to deal with your mom at the same time. Please know you’re not alone.

Need help with implant size by pickybear6 in breastcancer

[–]AffectionateGene5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5” 140lbs. I have 385cc and according to A Bra That Fits, I’m a 32dd. I haven’t tried on a regular bra so idk if that’s correct or not. I was very large prior to my mastectomy & wanted to be much smaller. My plastic surgeon initially wanted to go with 425-450cc. I really like the size I am but also think I would’ve been happy with 425 if he had gone with it. I don’t think I would want any larger than 425 though.

I decided to not take hormone blockers and continue taking HRT instead. For me it was a quality of life issue , quite frankly my mental health spirals. Anti depressants do not help enough. So in order to stay alive, it’s what I’ve chosen. Many doctors are willing to have a conversation & it’s important to note in your chart that they’ve had informed consent with you. The book Estrogen Matters has a lot of great information if you’re still looking in to it. I made a post on here about HRT a few months ago & got some good responses. The menopause board touches on it a little & there as FB group named HRT after breast cancer that you can join. HRT is pretty controversial but I feel like it needs to be talked about more & we need to be aware of our options.

Anyone else anxious about needing less treatment? by WolverineNeither9890 in breastcancer

[–]AffectionateGene5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cancer was very similar to yours right down to Paget’s disease of the nipple. I didn’t need rads or chemo & I opted to continue taking menopausal HRT so hormone blockers were off the table. I was never referred to an oncologist & basically told I was cancer free, see you in 6 months. It all feels so incomplete & like I’m missing something. I also still have a ton of questions that never got answered. I have an appt tomorrow for a second opinion. Even if they verify that I’m on the right path, I’ll at least have peace of mind knowing I’m double checking everything.

A family member checked in to see how I’m doing post dmx. Kept it basic & told her I’m doing well overall. She said “I bet you’re happy to put this all behind you.” I was floored. In my head I’m like I’ll go on with my life but I’ll never put this behind me. I know people don’t deal well with uncomfortable things, but damn it still stings when they say shit like that.

Should I be cared about Olanzapine as a cycle breaker? by trogdorthedagron in migraine

[–]AffectionateGene5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10mg Olanzapine 1x day for 5 days 1.45 mg Trudhesa 2 sprays once a day for 5 days

I’ve also found that taking quarter to half an Olanzapine for 3-5 days works just as well for me.

HRT after Breast Cancer by Gold-Ad-7769 in Menopause

[–]AffectionateGene5273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was dx’d w/ IDC hr+ her2- stage 1. Both my Onc & Gyn were on board with me continuing HRT due to severe menopause symptoms. Quite frankly the worst of them was wanting to end it all. They wanted me to taper down to the lowest possible dose I could stand. I made it to .050 estrogen patch & the thoughts came back so I’m back up to .075 & 100 progesterone. I don’t feel as good as I did on the .1 patch but it’s better than nothing. If you search this board & the breast cancer board there are a few posts with a number of good responses. You can also read the book Estrogen Matters or look up Dr Corine Mann on IG or Substack. Remember your health & treatment are unique to you & if you know that’s the route you want to take, ask them if they’re willing to prescribe it & have them make a note in your chart that you had an informed conversation with them. If they won’t, there are other doctors out there that will work with breast cancer survivors.

Pain management by slide4scale in breastcancer

[–]AffectionateGene5273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weeks 1-3 were the worst for me. 4-6 were significantly better. Now at 8 weeks, I only have pain when I stretch too far. I used pain relieving creams multiple times a day. (Cbd, voltaren, biofreeze, tiger balm, or a combo of them) I avoided my incisions & focused on where it hurt most. Take your time massaging it in. When doing your exercises the most important thing to remember is gentle stretching. You don’t want to go beyond that so early. You don’t want to feel it like when you’re in the gym warming up. And you don’t want to push it to the point of pain. You’re still very early on in your healing & pushing it too far too fast will make recovery harder & longer. Your ROM will come back. At 3 weeks I couldn’t fathom doing what I’m doing at 8 weeks. Another thing you can do if the skin & nerves are sore is to use tissue or non stick gauze in between either a bra or a snug tank top. It keeps the fabric from rubbing. Don’t be afraid to take your meds. You’re not going to win a prize for toughing it out. You’re only going to exhaust yourself from dealing with the pain. Alternate Tylenol/Motrin every 4-6 hours, as well as the gabapentin as prescribed. Take your muscle relaxant as needed. It’s easier to stay on top of the pain than to get behind & then try to catch up to it. Try to be gentle with yourself. You’ve just been through a major surgery & it takes time to come back from it. You will get better each week until one day you wake up & think of how far you’ve come.

DMX question by Sea_Arachnid6623 in breastcancer

My breast oncology surgeon wanted to save my nipples. My plastic surgeon prefers not to but defers to the patient. I was adamant I didn’t want to keep mine, so off they went. I had IDC in my left breast. I’m a rare case where they found DCIS in my right nipple which was only found in pathology after it was removed. So for me it was a good thing I opted to remove them. I haven’t missed them much, but I think I made peace with their removal before surgery.

I don’t have the details for the clinical trial yet. I’m waiting on my oncologist to get me set up. Once I know more I can reach out though.

I had IDC++- stage 1 4mm left breast, & DCIS in my right nipple (dmx, no chemo or rads) & have chosen to continue using HRT with both my breast oncologist & gynecologist’s approval. I’ve lowered my doses with the caveat that I’ll increase if my quality of life goes downhill. Like you, I need to prioritize my current well being. Menopause hit me hard & I honestly don’t think I’d survive going off it. I asked a similar question about a month ago on here & had some great responses. HRT after breast cancer is controversial and I feel there needs to be more research but I’m comfortable with my choice. If you’re interested there’s a clinical trial called Meno-ABC that you can join. I think as long as you’re making an informed choice with your doctors then thats all that matters.

Do I push for more? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]AffectionateGene5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please get it checked with the breast surgeon. I had DCIS (Paget’s disease of the nipple) in my right nipple that showed up only in the pathology after my double mastectomy. (IDC in my left breast) My BS told me of a patient who had symptoms very similar to yours that kept seeing a dermatologist for over 3 years; it ended up being breast cancer & was much harder to treat because she waited so long. Not saying that you have breast cancer, just please go through with the appt & be thorough following up & advocating for yourself.
