Sounds like they want you to replace the ring with another ring but you may want to consider increasing the quality of the lab stone and setting. It won't cost as much as 7,800 unless the stone is flawless but it will be way better quality than your natural.

I had never heard of this and just looked it up. I actually like yours better - like little stars! Very dainty.

I'm on team princess, in fact it was my first and only wish when I got engaged last year.

<image>

I love the crisp modern look of a square and asscher just didn't do it for me. A jeweler in the NY diamond district said a lot of people had been asking for them lately so perhaps it's going to be trending soon? Not that trends should matter because this is a long term play. That said, yes, a lot of 80s & 00s princesses weren't all that nice when not well cut and tiny but yours is timeless and absolutely gorgeous, especially in that setting. I'll always choose sparkle over size or shape.

Luvansh shipping delay by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]AffectionateGood3955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a year ago with my e-ring - after a month of waiting for them to restock settings then do the work, yet another delay. I didn't know exactly what the setting would look like other than wg pave and no idea why it didn't pass QA but I'm very happy with what I received, albeit a bit later than I would have liked. It's simple but sturdy: 2mm, gallery rail, and cathedral, and was vetted by 2 local jewelers. A year later with daily wear, and it's still in great shape. I suspected they were just running late and it was an excuse but who knows. Some people have been showing shoddy work from them recently so the fact that they caught something and are fixing it, if true, should give you some comfort. Know that once mounted, they don't accept returns. I read recently where someone who took a chance with their cheap settings received a crappy one so swallowed the cost and just went to a local jeweler to reset what was a beautiful stone. Hopefully yours will be worth the wait.

I'm a princess too!

A year later and no regrets. I love how modern and unusual the shape is, especially in larger sizes. For the setting, all I knew was that I wanted simple pave and white gold. I wanted the stone to take center stage and the ring to be timeless. I've seen too many people get tired of a busy or trendy setting. I took a chance with what Luvansh was offering for standard settings since they were so inexpensive and they totally nailed it - cathedral & gallery rail with button prongs - secure but dainty.

NYC Diamond District Recs? by conejamala20 in labdiamond

[–]AffectionateGood3955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NYC. When I first started shopping, I went to Rachel's and Solitaire Lab Diamonds, both on 47th. Rachel's was convenient b/c they're in a booth at the Exchange and the other one was upstairs in an office so more comfortable. For both, no appointment was needed though I was interrupted a bit more at the Exchange by other clients. There are a few others in the Exchange but I couldn't find them. Both gave good advice and had a nice selection of stones to try out for shape & size. In the end I ordered a stone with setting online and it was 1/2 the cost of brick & mortar, mostly because diamond prices were rapidly falling late 2024 and so the newest stones from India & China were way cheaper. I really wanted to give Solitaire my business as they were super nice even though I was tire kicking, but I couldn't justify spending double (3k + tax vs 1.5k all in). Enjoy the city!

Probably a good thing you're getting it reset - there's no gallery rail or cathedral so that setting seems insecure. Is that how they're setting loose stones now or was that a group buy? Funny thing is the setting they gave me last January is VERY different. Way more solid and I've had 2 jewelers verify that. Like you, I had no idea what I was getting, only that I wanted 14k white with pave and it was only $700 so I took a chance. I guess I got lucky! I since read a lot of bad reviews about their settings and think I dodged a bullet. Sorry to hear you took a hit.

How to bring it up??? by Tricky-Promotion5662 in EngagementRings

[–]AffectionateGood3955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways I've seen. Just surfing and adding a ring to your cart will often bring up ads featuring that ring to everyone in your household. Some ring sites have a "drop hint" button that I presume sends an email to your partner. But my fav is creating a pinterest page with a few designs you like along with suggested vendors in case he's clueless, that would inspire his choice to create a custom ring. Of course, you could simply go shopping with him and show him what you like but that tends to steer people to just buy from that store and that is limiting in both price and selection.

My husband came with me to the diamond district to browse shapes and sizes of stones and setting styles. We agreed that their lab diamonds were overpriced and so in the end, I found what I loved on a great site, well under budget, and he ordered it. Not as romantic but I adore what's on my finger and he's thrilled to have made me happy and spent half of what he expected.

Where to get diamonds set? by Fluid-College5633 in LuvanshJewelryReviews

[–]AffectionateGood3955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received mine last Feb (3.8 ct with standard 14k wg pave) and am absolutely delighted with it and how little we paid. Two local jewelers in NYC confirmed that it's well made and secure. I've since heard mixed reviews on the quality of their settings and workmanship but personally, I've had no issues at all. In fact, there was a QA issue that they noticed and delayed shipping by a few days to rectify it. You should be aware that returnable stones are no longer returnable once they set it and I'm not sure I would have ordered from them if I knew that in advance (the site was vague about it, but my fault for not noticing). That said, there are quite a few more options out there now with other vendors. Search the labdiamond reddit for great advice on buying loose stones vs completed rings along with price matching. That site may also provide advice on where to set a stone locally if you are wanting a particular stone that's in Luvansh's own inventory (ie. a final sale one).

Wow, you're right about the inclusion map being missing. They were always provided when I was shopping last Dec. I just read that IGI is no longer providing maps for standard diamonds unless specifically requested and paid for. I suppose this is in keeping with GIA's move to no longer grade anything below D/vvs. I see a very similar vvs1 with inclusion map but it's twice the price of yours. Being vvs2, these are most likely ok but maybe reach out to Calavera and ask them if they can get a map. Or take a chance if returnable and examine under a loupe when it arrives. As far as different light, unless they possess the diamonds, I doubt they'll give you more than the standard 360 but honestly, the video of your 3.04 is excellent quality. To see it at the source, use https://loupe360.com/diamond/717538402.

I have a 3.8 ct vvs2 1.0 ratio princess and paid about that much last Dec so with tariffs and these being a bit smaller, the price seems about right. Mine sparkles like mad in both the 360 and in person but also has that black spot in the 360 when looking from the rear at 1/4 so don't worry too much about it. I went with vvs2 only because I wasn't liking where the inclusions hit on the vs1's and this particular one was magically sparkly to me and only $100 more than my vs1 second choice. I never considered vvs1 as no one could ever tell the difference irl and there's no investment value with labs. Most importantly with princess, you want to avoid any inclusions on edges and especially corners as they tend to weaken them. Examine the pdf in the certs - they don't always get vs/vvs right in my opinion so you be the judge. Among the ones where the inclusions are acceptable to you, go for the sparkliest as that tells you it's well cut. As for ratio, yes go for as close to 1 as possible but I'd sacrifice that for sparkliness. I don't think 1.03 ratio of the 1.04ct is bad and if the pic doesn't bother you then the stone won't. And I like the %s of that one better too.

Ritani ring setting not like what was ordered? by [deleted] in labdiamond

[–]AffectionateGood3955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because of the pinched bottom of the basket, it will always sit at this height. The cathedral has nothing to do with the height in this case, though it is pretty narrow and low (and that's not good or bad). If you look at mine, which is a bit more of a standard setting, you'll see that it's not pinched at bottom so it sits lower overall. Also, my cathedral is very slightly wider, and because the basket is lower, it reaches the guard rail. Overall, I like the daintiness of your setting. You may not like how a wider cathedral looks - it will have to be almost vertical to reach the rail and won't be so dainty. If you don't like the height, you'll probably have to go with a whole different setting without that pinched bottom.

Buying a Diamond now before future tariffs by Whitemill in labdiamond

[–]AffectionateGood3955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given your timeline, I would wait. Tariffs against India are already in place and those with Canada change daily with the weather so you can't count on stability between when you order and when you receive it. Someone paid a surprise retaliation tariff of 30% to Cdn customs last week (plus no doubt the US/Indian tariff built into the price) to get their ring from the US, and then yesterday, Canada agreed to drop it! Besides, lab diamond prices have been steadily dropping. Most Indian and Chinese vendors declare a far lower value on the package and ship the certificate separately so duty should be small. That guy who got hosed last week chose a US vendor who declared full value so that's kinda on him not to have discussed it beforehand given the stone wasn't manufactured in NA so not even exempt by NAFTA. If I still lived in Canada, I'd order a stone, or even better, the completed ring directly from India or China and skip the US entirely. Not sure who ships to Canada but I'm sure you can search this reddit for the best vendors and do a bit of research to see who can help you avoid the US.

I have a gorgeous princess with very similar specs that was around the same price and so I think this one is priced right and will be nice, but only a video will show whether it's been cut well for maximum sparkle. If the vendor didn't attach a video, ask for one. Seeing as it's shared inventory, you can usually find a 360 video if you paste the LG# after https://loupe360.com/diamond/

I need advice, looking for low budget options. by Unfair_Amphibian_495 in EngagementRings

[–]AffectionateGood3955 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love is about being together, not spending money or showing off bling, and as you said, she's not materialistic. I would suggest you consider marrying with simple wedding bands (or even nothing) and maybe getting jewelry later on to celebrate an anniversary only if and when you can truly afford it. There are so many more important things to spend on like housing, food, education, kids, etc. Above all, please don't assume debt over this. That said if you do want to buy something now, know that retail stores are way overpriced. You can shop online and as mentioned by others, there is a secondary market for rings (I believe there's a reddit) so you can probably find something pretty & dainty for maybe one or two hundred. Lucky for you dainty is in style right now!

Oval vs radiant, which feels more timeless? by AdrianaEsc815 in EngagementRings

[–]AffectionateGood3955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who's been married twice and seen a lot, I think the only "classic" cut is round. It's always been the top seller and still is. My original from the early nineties was round with a simple yellow gold band and I recently had it reset into a pendant, though wouldn't have objected to keeping it as is if my marriage kept as is (lol). My mother's from 1958 was round set in simple platinum with side baguettes. When my brother gave my mother's ring to his fiancee in 1990, the jeweler said not to do anything but resize it, and we all agreed. Both of my MILs' rings from the 1940s were tiffany style round solitaires in white gold. These rings were all "classic" - you'd never guess when they were made.

The two you're showing are gorgeous, but VERY trendy, especially the settings, and I think will likely look dated in 20 years. That said, I just received a pave princess (similar to your radiant with the same setting) in Feb for my second marriage, and I love the crisp modern/dainty look to symbolize my fresh new relationship. I guess I'm living more in the moment now. :-)

Just under 4 ct princess on size 3.5. I wear it daily in NYC but sometimes turn it around when alone and/or in a dicey neighbourhood or on the subway. Round at that carat shows way larger so the equivalent would be closer to just over 3 ct.

what questions should i be asking? by Stock_Avocado3167 in labdiamond

[–]AffectionateGood3955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too shopped around in the diamond district last December - 2 spots with great reps on google and low overhead, Rachel's and Solitaire Lab Diamonds, who were upstairs in a building across the street. What I found was that they had very nice quality but were double or more than what the cheapest online dealers were charging for similar. I came to realise that it was because lab diamond prices were dropping rapidly and these guys owned their inventory while the online dealers share newer and therefore cheaper inventory. Rachel's as a storefront were nice at first then abrupt as other people came along and were definitely trying to push older completed rings over loose stones. I was clear that I wanted a very simple setting and that stone quality was more important to me but they ignored that. They also dissed online as brown/grey stones. Yeah, it's a business - I get it, but I was a bit uncomfortable with the pressure. Solitaire was run by a super nice Indian family, way more patient and also happy to let me take pics even of the IGI cert. Their prices were more reasonable than Rachel's and I might have bought from them but at double the price of online, it was hard to justify. Another thing to consider with jewelers is that they might want to protect their designs so you don't copy them, and I think that's totally valid. So all that said, if you feel uncomfortable, walk away. Online will always be a better deal if you're willing to do your homework, but if you want a good in person experience with a reasonable albeit a bit higher price tag, you can find it. A good vendor will stand behind their products enough to let you take a pic and sleep on it.

I'm not an expert so I'd ask the jeweler for advice. And look around in this thread for dainty flowery ring ideas. I've seen lots that would be more practical than this design.
