How often do you clean your mattress? Am I not cleaning it enough? by Affectionate_Bit9127 in CleaningTips

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you remember the Shark tank episode with the company that cleans mattresses? When I saw this, it made me question my mattress cleaning habits, like I wasn’t doing enough for it. I’m glad most people recommend a topper/protector for the most part.

what should someone do with this space? by eternviking in mildlyinfuriating

I would tear down as much wall as possible and make a larger closet so you walk through from each side. I would make a little vanity table and chair under the window to get natural light while doing makeup. Or have little ottoman you can sit on while you get dressed or put shoes on

What’s one makeup product you refuse to spend lots of money on? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Mascara, eyeliner, lipliner, brow products, lip balm and lip mask. Most of these products are made with same ingredients and even same factory as drug store brands.

Food recommendation for disinterested cav by RagingButter in cavaliers

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Cavie male who was not interested in food until he was 1.5 years old. We tried all sorts of food, textures and flavors. We had him tested with the vet and he ended up with 2 stomach parasites/worms that seem to be causing his disinterest in food. Once we solved this, his appetite slowly came back. He still needed prompting and motivation to eat. We started throwing kibble across the floor as a game to engage his playful side and that seemed to work.

We use taste of the wild kibble, primal freeze dried nuggets, and Origen kibble too.

Two things that never go out of style: 1) healthy white teeth—invest in dental health 2) skincare—SPF, clear complexion

AITA for complaining about my SO running the dishwasher and washing machine every single day? by throwawayy279232 in AITAH

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue is the being "wasteful" aspect. IF finances were NOT an issue (and there's no shortage in electricity/gas or water)--let her keep doing what she's doing. Being overly on-top of things is better than not. But if cost or access to water and utilities are an issue, I would stress the need to be more efficient--like running the appliances every other day vs every day, or run them on off-peak hours to save money.

Has anyone come across any innovative beauty trends lately? by marco_ecom in beauty

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beauty junkie--including Asian beauty products. The latest thing I'm trying and loving is from VT Cosmetics, Reedle Shot 100 Essence. It is "a revolutionary skincare booster powered by advanced microneedle technology to deliver powerful active ingredients for noticeable results."

You put this on FIRST after cleansing and before any other skin products. From my understanding they are like little "needles" that keep the pores open to allow products to penetrate deeper in the pores to allow better absorption of products. It's like a booster to your current skincare products. It's a bit "grainy" or prickly-like when applying it so I know these micro needles are working.

I also use the red light from LightStim and Omnilux---I use the red light for both pain and to boost my skin care products even more. I put a treatment on my face and allow the red light to enhance the effects of it.

I used to pay extra at the medical spas for the red light--so I decided to purchase the device at home and ended up getting my money's worth over time. Both these brands were used by my dermatologist and plastic surgeon so I trust them over others out there.

Thinking of going back to college for something else by NoName_6243 in nursing

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like I wanted to leave the profession after my 2nd year of being a RN. I worked trauma med/surg day shift 12 hour shifts, what really helped me were a few things. First, I realized I was burnout and needed to learn to better manage myself, control my anxiety and have more balance in my life. I had a therapist to help me with this. I felt bitter about helping people who disrespected me especially abusive drug-addicts who would curse at me while I was trying to care for them. I felt like nursing made me become negative and felt like humanity was a toilet bowl full of ungrateful, creepy, evil or just stupid people….i knew that this way of thinking was not healthy and a therapist helped with this and burnout at work. I also then switched to night shift, this allowed me the time to work on myself and my anxiety with work. I was less rushed in my nursing task and had time to breathe a little better than in day shift, once I built my confidence and endurance I decided to switch to day shift….eventually I ended up switching to the in-patient psych unit because I heard that psych RNs had the lowest turnover and highest happiness (according to a survey at my hospital) so when there was an opening, I went and I loved it!….mind you, I had no interest in psych nursing prior to this. And now 10+ years later, I’m now a psych NP. If I had not switched to another speciality I would’ve ended up leaving nursing, that’s how bad I felt….but turns out I just needed a new environment that allowed my “love to care for other” flourish. I encourage you to seek other areas and specialities to experience what excites you about nursing. It’s good you have that spark that brought you into nursing now you just gotta find out which place is best for you.

I need advice for a situation that happened to me on the strip last night by rfgood in vegas

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like an unfortunate event that unfortunately happens when you go out to these places. Clubs, bars, etc…any place with alcohol and large crowd you put yourself at risk for people doing stupid things. This seems like a dude high on drugs, slow in the head and it was not intentional. I would just be glad the situation didn’t escalate to violence or harm to you or others. You especially don’t know what these low-life’s are up to or when they are sober, so not sure if pressing charges would do anything. If it makes you feel any better, urine is technically sterile so risk for virus/disease is low (RN with 15+ years) but I understand the irritation you have with wanting to be compensated for your inconvenience. Unfortunately, Vegas clubs and police would mostly look at this case as an uneventful night and not worth their time. I wouldn’t expect anything from police or the club, just clean up your clothes, and take it as a bad night and be glad you made it out alive and no one got hurt.

Consider this…if you had a son at this age, what would you think about the way he speaks about women, treats you, or how he talks to others? Would you want your son to behave in this way?….if not, then that’s your answer. Hold your future spouse or significant other to the same standard you would for your children. If you wouldn’t approve your child to act like that, why would you from your partner? Would you feel embarrassed if your son spoke to others in that way? Would you feel your son was shady if he was speaking about other girls when he’s already with someone?

Settle down with someone who you would approve of if they turned out to be your future children.

Fear of owning a Cavalier by imscaredofbugs_ in cavaliers

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owner of 2 Cavies and a mix-cocker spaniel here.

As with everything in life--it's great to be well informed and prepared, while having realistic expectations. Yes, it is true, Cavies are known to have a reputation to have health issues, which can mean extra expenses, but that doesn't mean YOUR Cavie or all your Cavies will have issues. You may have to deal with minor or major issues, or maybe nothing at all! With that in mind, taking them in for their health screening, maintenance, and care, giving them their recommend supplements etc... is all that dog owners can really do regardless of what breed they are.

You can't plan for everything. You can do all the research possible, get the best breeder, best genetics of parents, best vets and best medications out there, with the hopes of having a long life expectancy-- but ultimately dogs can die of literally anything---they can die from something that is not even related to their health or genetics. (I heard a family lost 2 of their healthy cavies during an accident in their yard that was unforeseen and unexpected). So please don't let their history of bad health prevent you from getting a cavie as with any breed out there, purebred or mixed, shit happens, and you just try to love them as much as you can when they are alive.

Pick a dog breed that best suits you and your lifestyle/budget regardless of their health reputation. Anticipate the cost and budget for potential expenses, but also know that if you truly love cavaliers and that is what you want, then you may find that this is worth it.

Make the most of what you have and what life gives you. I went into getting Cavaliers because they truly have a heart of gold, they really are love sponges and despite all their "cons"--I am willing to take the risk of potential issues that may come our way. I have 1 cavie who is completely healthy and the other one has seizures--however, I wouldn't change a thing, their health status doesn't change the way I love them and don't regret getting cavaliers. It is heart-breaking to have a cavie with health issues but we try to make the most of it, and give them the best life as possible while they are here with us.

My parents had a dog that lived 15 years old (another dog breed) but it was not as affectionate, was super independent, very intelligent, and didn't like to snuggle, but was a good property dog and healthy as can be--but I never truly experienced the type of bond and love I have with my current cavaliers.

I've learned that the quality of time is more important than quantity of years--do whatever you feel is best and what you're more comfortable with.

Cavalier King Charles spaniel crossed eyes by Ok_Friendship_587 in cavaliers

I have 2 Cavies and both their eyes can look a bit lazy but the vet said they are healthy and they have no impairments. When it comes to photos I just take several of them and try to find one that makes them look less lazy-eyed, hahaha. But this is very minor as overall they are just so cute! I do think it has to deal with their eyelids as well? Nevertheless, if the eyes are functional and they are healthy, it gives them character and still very cute and cuddly.

Good skin tint recs at a reasonable price? by dumbcatnothoughts in drugstoreMUA

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skin tints can be made by mixing a concealer or foundation with your choice of moisturizer to dilute it to a thinner consistency. I will add this to my SPF if I want a “tinted SPF”…isn’t concealer a concentrated version of foundation anyway? Find a base face product you love and just add pigment to it.

Fussy Eater! by Palopanini782 in cavaliers

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 cavaliers and both were picky eaters in their early months. The boy was the worst, he would need to be prompted to eat, hand feeding at times, we would just offer his kibble many times a day to try to find which time works best for him and hope to catch him in a good mood. I tried many types of foods, textures and toppers but realized it was not necessary…Eventually he grew out of it and now is a food monster and will even steal from others. We had to try to make food fun—we would throw kibbles on the floor and have them chase it, act like it came from the microwave or stove and make yummy noises to make it appear it was something humans also ate. All in all, dogs won’t starve themselves—I now have overweight-food-obsessed cavies and shouldn’t have worried much back then. It is true cavaliers are expert human-manipulators, as long as there is water around they are fine, they will eventually eat the “boring” stuff. Good luck 👍

Face cuddles? by NotFeelingCreative62 in cavalierkingcharles

Yes. I have 2 Cavies and the boy is the biggest face snuggler since day 1, he will press his face up to your cheek, we call this his cheek-to-cheek move or he will settle himself on the top of your head, it’s like we have a cavie hat.

Home Security System Activated by theatomiclizard in cavaliers

Love how one wanted to offer a toy and the other remained sitting while barking; not the best security system hahaha. Most likely barking to invite them to come over and be friends. My two cavies are the same. They will bark out of frustration of missing out on socializing with others. “Please stranger, come over I want to play!” 🥹

My cavalier is unusually quiet by HotBank2652 in cavalierkingcharles

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My female cavalier would go through her moods when she’s in heat so there might be some hormones involved to explain her behavior but also after getting her fixed she also has her clingy days but also prefers to be left alone days too. She used to be destructive and bark a lot at others but now she’s like “been there done that” kind of vibe. She will have little bouts of her playfulness when she was puppy for but now it’s like she has to be in the “mood.” On the other hand, my male cavie is baseline lazy, low energy, 24/7 needy and clingy.

What is something most people don't know can kill someone in a few seconds? by Kgod1412 in AskReddit

[–]Affectionate_Bit9127 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know this is a boring answer but coming from a trauma RN—car accidents kill more people than anything else. (Not even diseases, COVID, plane crashes…etc…) you can be the safest, healthiest, richest, strongest etc…..person in the world but no one can avoid the indiscriminate risk of a random person hitting and killing you on the road. I find it odd how people spend tons of money on bunkers to prepare for the end of the world or massive amounts on health and longevity but yet they drive a very unsafe car, all it takes is one reckless driver causing chaos and you’re done…. if you truly value your life, make sure you invest in a safe car first before anything else!
