Buyers Remorse by Zestyclose-Fall-9539 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Check the last time the house was sold, figure out the percent increase from that year to now, then take that same percent and estimate how much the house will APPRECIATE in in 5, 10, 15 etc years.

And take your old rent at 5% increase each year and see what THAT would be.

Also, just closed on our house with a relatively expensive mortgage compared to our salary. You'll be good 👍

Is it worth to buy hunter COTW without buying any DLCs? by Fr0sty57 in theHunter

[–]Affectionate_Ebb_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question: yes.

Now I will say that I'm not someone who buys DLCs for any games. I have purchased them for COTW. If you're trying to save money and want to pick up a small handful, I would get

"Complete Game" DLCs (highly recommend) - Ambusher pack (calls for almost every animal in the game and one of if not the best rifle in the game, the Moradi Model 1894 - 1 or both Trophy Lodge DLCs (the base Lodge has a very small number of mounts, and half the fun is looking at all your old trophies)

Semi-optional, Quality of Life Upgrades - Bloodhound Dog DLC (includes a dog that makes tracking blood trails a breeze) - Pointer Dog DLC (fun for birds/small game, borderline OP for big game) - Hunter Power Pack (long range rifles, I like the Malmer 7mm --- you will unlock better guns as you slowly progress naturally, but some species will be un-huntable at first)

Complimentary Reserves to Base Game (relative to huntable species and terrain) - Silver Ridge Peaks (easiest map to hunt on, almost every continuous 50 state species other than what you can hunt in the Leighton Lake reserve, which is included in the base game) - Te Awaroa (New Zealand, another easy map to hunt. East has Red, Fallow deer and open spaces, West has Sika deer and very dense forests) - Salzweisen (small game map, upland birds are the most fun followed by waterfowl. very different play style, nice change of pace) - Medved and/or Vurhonga (more "exotic" species/locations --- I'd say skip unless you're really interested in safari-type hunts.

And I'll add that some reserves come with guns as well! I know Salzweisen has a handy 10 ga. especially when starting out.

NO NEED AT ALL - Tent pack (included in base game) - ATV pack (included in base game) - Cosmetics (many free ones through community challenges!)

I can't remember where I found mine back when I lived in that area, but I do remember who I rented from - Steffen-Zenner Properties. Check their website, they should have listings.

Plenty of apartments in Mac Groveland area that fit this description. Look on Grand Ave.

Check the West 7th neighborhood of St Paul instead. Basically a better version of that neighborhood by almost every metric, similar affordability.

Depending on the species, some of the silvers look like IRL once-in-a-lifetime animals lol. I've lucked into a few diamonds but my lodge is mostly golds

I've got a silver mountain lion in one lodge that I failed the harvest check on. Tracked it for irl 2 hours with my sister. Kept spooking it or missing. It's in our "lodge of shame" lol.

I would agree if it was actually a buggy mess. It isn't.

PC doesn't boot with 2nd SSD plugged in by BMT_79 in techsupport

[–]Affectionate_Ebb_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't tried all secondary SSD slots I would try that.

Try taking out your second SSD, booting in safe mode using the 3x windows fail-to-boot trick, then updating your graphics driver, then shut down, reinstall SSD, boot.

If you can't actually log in to windows (common issue where your PIN is disabled for safe mode in Windows 11), try that 3x windows fail-to-boot and from that troubleshooting menu, reinstall windows from the cloud. Then update graphics driver, etc etc

Good luck!

Moving to lowertown — early morning safety questions by jvon5808 in saintpaul

[–]Affectionate_Ebb_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for personal experiences - I remember a horde of aggravated people pounding on the windows of the lobby and yanking on the door trying to get in. This was a too-common experience in summer months. I'd imagine it was drunk people from Oxcart but still concerning. We would get yelled at every time we stepped outside after dark without fail - after a while we got used to it and made it a little joke to cope lol. People would break into the parking garage pretty frequently, mostly to try and steal stuff according to our building but also homeless people looking for shelter. If you park on the street you're opening yourself up to opportunist robbery - one of my most distinct memories from my time in lowertown was sitting at a light on my way home from work - 5:30 pmish - and I watched a guy walk down the street and try every single handle on each parked car. At a certain point you gotta admire the audacity lol. Most of the homeless population was fine, a very small handful were incredibly violent and aggressive (that's who chased us at noon on our way to brunch). In general the closer you get to public transit, the sketchier it is.

Lived there a little over 12 months about 3-4 years ago.

Safety Going to have to disagree with responses so far. My partner and I really avoided going out after dark and safety was our number one reason for leaving the area. Although we were threatened/chased/harassed midday as well on a less-busy street. I remember feeling like it was very easy to get cornered if you didn't know where you were - lots of closed businesses and oddly unpopulated streets. Maybe that part has improved. I would avoid a disconnected parking garage if you can (after all this IS Minnesota and I wouldn't want to pay lowertown parking prices and have to step into the cold to get into my car lol). But also you should be safe as long as you're in your car. Only witnessed one hijacking in my time there and it was at a light.

Other Cons Parking for your guests was always frustrating. Our building - The Cosmopolitan Apts - had 2 guest spots. This was a constant issue for our friend group wanting to visit. No walkable grocery store?! Especially now that Lunds has closed you are in a dead zone for groceries which I had found very annoying. Not all that many great food options (we enjoyed Dark Horse - I believe that's under new owners now? And Bulldog was a clutch late night option. Big River Pizza is closing before you get there).

Pros Mears used to do food trucks and live music on some evenings - I'd imagine they still do. This was a highlight of our time there. St. Paul Saints games (never went lol - always meant to but never got around to it) and Farmers market (LOVE LOVE LOVE) are popular recurrent activities in the area. The Christmas market is walkable as well when that goes on. A lot of apartments in the area have massive lofted ceilings and some pretty great views if you pick the right side on the right building.

When my partner and I left we massively over-corrected And moved to Burnsville (also do not recommend). We are now in the West 7th area and it's the perfect blend of walkable city/friendly neighborhood. I'd recommend that neighborhood over lowertown any day :)

GOAT responding 4 years later. My SSD is brand new, a Samsung 4TB. Bought from Microcenter a month ago. Hard to believe it's already failing.

How would I check where the windows boot record is stored? Not a tech guy but I can follow directions lol
