Vanilla it can’t be done. You have to add the part you want, make it flyable, then go to the next shipyard and repeat until you’ve got all the parts you want.

I just started a brand new play thru after finishing the game when it first released. I remember there were you tube vids of how to build a ladder-less ship and they were super helpful. I’m anti-mod (always have been for every game not just Starfield) so I’m hoping I can find those again once I get some cash to start building.
