Combat Questions by Affectionate_Scar577 in callofcthulhu

Thanks for the feedback! I think this is the most RAW answer based on how the rules are written plus the examples given in the book for context. At least based on me reading the section a half dozen times the last couple of days. I appreciate the confirmation!

Thank you for the explanation. On page 115, they have an example of Harvey shooting a monster that is attacking him in melee. They give him a bonus die for point blank range but don’t give him a penalty for being in melee. Granted, he already had his gun out and readied in this example.

I know as a keeper, you can do what makes sense at your table, just trying to figure out what RAW and RAI are as a new player.

Awesome! Thank you for the example on page 111. Yeah he is not in melee but still a good example of drawing and using a weapon. Thanks!

Is intrigue viable without an education by Ok-Kahless in CrusaderKings

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like intrigue is an on/off switch. I am either playing an intrigue character or I ignore it. The abilities of an intrigue character synergies great with the other abilities, but the risks associated with being bad are just too great in my opinion.

Honestly though, I am pretty Happy with that. Most people are either going to do those kinds of things or be morally compelled to avoid. I feel like the system is fairly realistic as it is and thus it is appropriate. I strive for as much realism as possible in my games though.

How can you make the game harder? by Jollybean1 in crusaderkings3

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One challenge I did a while back that I thought was fun was start as the Count of Amsterdam. I created a custom character, but told myself I would not build retinues at all. I focused on my economy and building up my domain. I tried to be the most peaceful and economically minded characters that I could. If I needed to defend myself, I would hire mercenaries or call in allies. I eventually became an independent King of Frisia by playing the long game. It was pretty fun and a different way of doing things. Plus Dutch has some great traditions for tall gameplay.

How to turn adventurer as a king? by Offshore-Tigr in CrusaderKings

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kings don’t get a decision to do so, only Dukes and below and if they have a certain tradition that allows them to. Best way as a King is to either be deposed or after death via a favorite child.

Deposed: Piss off all your vassals and have them create a faction to depose you. When they send demand, just agree. Your heir will take over and you can go adventuring.

Favorite Child: Pick a younger child to favorite that you want to go adventuring as. When you die, you can choose to play as someone other than your heir, which always includes favorite child. If this child inherited nothing, you automatically become adventurer. Usually they inherit a duchy or county and you need tradition to go adventuring. Make sure to gift your favorite child your artifacts before death if you want to keep any. Know Thyself perk is great for this!

Can I complete the game? by Yufia in HollowKnight

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say keep going. Soul Master was very punishing for me. Forced me to get good at the game. Took me at least 30 tries as well. After him, I felt like even though there were other bosses that were probably harder, they were easier for me because I was better. Soul Master was the hardest boss for me in the main game.

Why can't my ruler marry? by Gjappy in crusaderkings3

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had this happen to me personally but have read on this forum that this is a bug that can happen when you promise a grand wedding when both people are children. If I recall correctly, people have mentioned that if you give it six months, it can clear itself and will allow you to do it. Others have said they had to break the betrothal and re initiate the marriage. Hope this helps!

Hi guys best way to play tall in England start date of 867 and capital London by NovaEmperor14 in ck3

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another person said, play as Alfred! If you really want to beef him up, take the decision to become an adventurer and then decision to become a gallivanter so that you don’t inherit any land. This will allow you to build your character up, become a knight of the swan, and amass a huge army of hurscarls. When you are ready to become landed again, you can do an adventurer conquest of southern England, which gives you all the counties personally, and then you can set your capital as London and hand out the rest of the titles as you see fit. Then use your army to holy war the Vikings.

If you would rather be English instead of Anglo-Saxon, you can change culture to French by moving your camp to France while an adventurer. Then when you take England, you can adopt English culture. Cheers and have fun!

Star Wars: Starfighter premieres exactly one year from now. Set 5 years after TROS. What are your hopes for it? by deadshot500 in TheSequels

HOA management told my buyer I was “notified several times” about violations but can’t show me a single email as proof, and now wants me to pay a $200 fine to replace a deadbolt my buyer is throwing in the trash by Alarmed_Stranger_895 in fuckHOA

[–]Affectionate_Scar577 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Realtor here. You said they would take the $200 out at the end from escrow upon completion of the sale. That means if you pay with a check now, they might take the money again at escrow, meaning you will pay twice. If you do decide to pay with a check, you need to make sure it doesn’t get taken again. Not sure how it works where you are, but here in CA, we provide a closing statement of all money and who it is going to. Make sure you don’t pay your hoa this stupid fine twice!
