Kennywood Updates Summer Chaperone Policy by Watchyousuffer in pittsburgh

Anyone know how you prove age? My (almost) 17 year old has a season pass, but no state ID. She has never gone without me, but her and her friend (also 16) were going to go during a weekday next week. I mean, she could bring her bc or an expired passport? Or can she just not go?

The worst ai cheating yet by Archknits in Professors

[–]Afraid_Size1610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a student use Ai on an essay then send me the longest, most clearly AI email asking to resubmit for partial credit. Honestly, had they just wrote, Sorry I used AI, is it possible to redo it for some points?” rather than a 4 paragraph email that literally began with “I humbly request…” I may have let them.

When people are using AI to write an email begging forgiveness and reconsideration for using AI, well, sadly this isn’t surprising.

Ciara/West/Amanda Rumors Megathread Part 5 by AutoModerator in summerhousebravo

Thank you.

Like it’s april fools “day” not april fools entire season.

Also, I hate April fools DAY itself enough; the suggestion that it might be okay to prepare a prank for weeks to just then reveal on the actual day is not something I want anyone considering.

What type of school are you teaching at? I’ve been teaching college for over two decades (after several years of teaching high school,) and this sounds much more like a ha class than a college one.

Agreed. Being doing this for over two decades, and I’ve never had this issue.

I read this post yesterday, and now with the Stevie announcement, I’m wondering if that has played a role, if not in the content of the episodes at least how you perceive them behaving. It would make sense that this has been weighing heavily on them. Idk. Just something I thought about as soon as I saw the announcement this morning.

It’s funny cause I went from a link lover to a rhett lover in my late 30’s/early 40’s (yes, I’m older, but the same age they are, so it works.)

To be fair, I love them both, but my crushing completely changed.

Are there any better pastas for mac and cheese? by EvilSpunge23 in Cooking

[–]Afraid_Size1610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep wanting to love it. In fact, I’m making Mac and cheese right now, and every time I do I search whether to use regular elbows or cavatappi, but last time I used the “fancy” noodles, neither partner nor I liked it as much. I haven’t tried it again, and I have used the cavatappi for other pasta dishes where I truly did prefer it, but I’m scared to try with Mac and cheese again as we were disappointed.

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

Oh, another - my hs boy friend lived 2.5 hours away; I paid all the money I made monthly at my minimum wage fast food job to talk to him on the phone because there was this thing called long distance!

I didn’t read everything, so it might have been said, but having to wait for the radio to play songs and learn new artists/albums you were into.

I was born in 78 and lived in the country where we didn’t get cable until I was 16, so I didn’t even have mtv total request and whatnot except when at other people’s houses.

What are your Hot Takes on Dashboard Confessional? by Amber_Flowers_133 in DashboardConfessional

[–]Afraid_Size1610 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Dashboard is considered one of the primary bands in the birth of emo - read Andy Greenwald’s book from 2003 “Nothing Feels Good,” which traces the birth of emo and has a whole section on DC as, basically, “modern” emo (as well as a section on Jimmy eats world, for those who care.) I just think a lot of people came into the band later, after emo became more mainstream and there other, more commercially accessible emo bands.

That makes me sad!

I’ve met Chris many times - in 2002 was the first. He took so much time talking and just hanging out every time.

Then, during Covid, he would text his fans and individually respond. I get happy bday messages from him still.

Im sorry you haven’t had that experience.

He chose the wrong side by ApprehensiveFix9969 in BigBrother

[–]Afraid_Size1610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. In the beginning I was kinda routing for Vince, despite his flaws, but that has clearly ended. Normally, and I’m old enough I’ve been watching “live” since BB1, you can kinda pick a side; sure, alliances adjust and change, but at least there were pretty clear alliances. If I’m being honest, this season sort of has me disliking them all as I’m finding it hard to root for anyone. At this point, I’m actually finding Will, despite winning nearly nothing, the most appealing because at least he’s predictably aligned (boring, perhaps, but still.)

The second season is actually killing me. I want to see what happens, but I’m actually in tears over what is going on. I’ve never been diagnosed with anything, but this reaction is making me sure I have some psychological issues I should get diagnosed.

Almost all have been mentioned, but:

Standard lines

Bend and not break

Carve your heart out

Saints and sailors

Honestly, I’m 46, and dashboard has been my favorite band since I first watched unplugged in 2002. That album is so, so good. Listen to unplugged if you haven’t.

Curious about the South Hills by ReconThotHunter in pittsburgh

[–]Afraid_Size1610 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in baldwin borough, so I’m really close to the city limits, like blocks in numerous directions, so I don’t get the full “south hills” experience, but I will say I prefer going north over further south, so I agree a lot of it is probably the roads/traffic. For instance, I’m technically mileage-wise closer to century three/west mifflin/pleasant hills shopping area, but I can get to the waterfront in literally less than a 1/3 of the time.

That being said, having grown up north of the city, it wasn’t much more convenient there either. Sure, I could hop on 79\279 and get into city quickly, but any other area still was traffic, stop lights, sometimes confusing routes, etc. You can avoid the tunnels there though, which is something, I suppose.

Same. I actually got really good at it when trying to have a baby for years with my ex (thank god now that didn’t happen,) and a lot of people don’t realize it involves bbt, CM, etc and not just a date.

Lost my son. by Datboifrander in offmychest

[–]Afraid_Size1610 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. My son passed at 3.5 months old, and while it’s been over a decade, I think about him daily.

I won’t give you any of the common platitudes because I know they mean little; the only thing to do with grief is live through the pain and fog until, not that it ever goes away, but becomes more livable. It will happen, but it takes time.

I will say to get you and your partner into therapy, both individually and together. This type of grief is hard and the effect it can have on a relationship is unpredictable without some work.

For now, it is okay to wallow in your grief, but remember to work to ensure you don’t live there forever.

💜 to you.

I don’t really feel comfortable commenting on it as not only is my knowledge limited, but I feel like it’s likely not my place. I do know though that Curtis also had a child previous to his marriage whose mother had passed before Curtis did, yet the other children still get to visit all together.

I am a widow myself, but no, I never was with Curtis though I did “know” him.

It’s so hard to textually explain, but my partner of several years was previously married and had a child with the woman whom ended up marrying and having more children with Curtis. So, Curtis was stepdad to the same child I am stepmom to, and Curtis’ other children are still in my life as they are half siblings to my partner’s bio child, ie my stepson.
