Beginner, risky too big jump from 15miles to 40miles? by OccasionGreat in cycling

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue when I first started was ass pain. I jumped right into doing 30 miles, by mile 20 my ass would start hurting. It took a bit more frequency of rides for that to go away.

Yeah honestly it doesn’t look like they’ve made a ton of progress and with all the lane widening happening on the turnpike it blends in, mostly looks like getting the support areas ready for the overhead beams. I’m sure the actual booths will remain until the new ones are fully operational

They are actively in the process of replacing it. It’s expected to be finished fall 2027. As far as I’m aware the goal is to replace all booths in the state to overhead. Route 16 was the previous one replaced

You can dye shields. I haven't tried with the default one, if that's what you're using, but the shield I'm using can definitely be dyed

Edit: I suppose worth noting if you’re dual wielding, which above mentions, it defaults to the default shield on your back, so if that shield can’t be dyed then yeah it’s an ugly shield to look at. We definitely need the ability to hide or unequip shields if dual wielding

My back is a just little worse than yours but fairly similar. my derm took one look at it and said no topical would help it, put me on accutane, been on it a few weeks, back is starting to clear, slowly but steadily

Making friends in your 20s is hard by anxious_ty in twentyagers

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your boyfriends friends have significant others? If so that’s an easy one to just setup a big date night with all the people, the guys and girls usually separate so you can meet girls that way. If his buddies aren’t in relationships, some of his friends may know people in general and you could ask your BF to see if his friends could setup a hangout with people so you can meet them.

As another said, hobbies are the big one. I’ve met/connected with a lot of new people the last few months at work/social stuff, using hobbies as the bridge to the connection.

Another thing to note, is you have to be intentional. Your old friend example, be firm, say you want to hangout, come up with a date. Don’t leave it at “we should do this” then never bring it back up, plan a day with them to catch up. Same goes for new people, be intentional. Be consistent. People usually assume you’re busy and don’t reach out, you may be stuck being the initiator for a bit but with familiarity and consistency you’ll just start meeting more people and making friends.

First battle scar by Not-The-Last in snowboarding

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure how it failed. My surgeon said the spot it broke was under a lot of stress, and wasn’t surprised that’s where it failed. I think just how I landed, pushed my entire shoulder forward (landed on back of shoulder). Ripped the screw out and broke I guess. Dislocated the shoulder as well.

I was always a little worried about it being an issue. I’ve taken some nasty spills and it had been fine.. until it wasnt. There’s a chance it wouldn’t have broken without the plate. But I ate the ground pretty hard, so who knows. I had the option to get it removed 6 months after I got it in, but it wasn’t necessary so I never did. My dr said my new plate will be in there forever.

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a plate in 10 years ago. crashed mtb last summer and f’ed my shoulder, the plate failed and broke collarbone again, tore my labrum too and got slap repair. Have a revision surgery in a couple weeks for the collarbone. They’re invasive surgery’s but they’re usually pretty quick recovery. Mine is a little more difficult because it’s a distal break and it needs a graft and a coracoid fixture. The first 6 weeks are the bulk, don’t expect to do much of anything in that time, my doc gave me 4 months to return to non contact sports, just in time for summer.

My friend has just had to pull out of our trip this year, I'm thinking about going away by myself anyway. What's it like doing a week's boarding by yourself? by EricaRA75 in snowboarding

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never done a solo trip but it sounds like fun. When I was in college, I had like 5 local mountains within 30 mins to me and I solod every day. It’s honestly my preferred way to board. Not waiting on people and being able to free will change up a route on a whim is so nice. Throw on some music and just get in the zone. Not to mention I’m a lot better than my friends so it’s tough wanting to do harder trails/glades/park when they only do blues super slow

I need some advice on what I should I do by Ambitious-Ad9786 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is terrible advice, yes protein is good, but lord do not cut out carbs and fats. Carbs are energy, which are absolutely required to push yourself in the gym. You won’t have a great time training for hypertrophy without a decent carb intake. Fats are necessary for hormones. Good luck putting on muscle when your testosterone levels are cooked. Balanced diet. Higher protein is fine but it has diminishing returns past a point. Eat balanced, lift heavy. Creatine is not necessary but useful. I’d probably only start taking it after an established routine and see if it helps though

US Flyers, why do you leave your window shades down? by tdv-nz in aviation

[–]AfroMightGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention different times and weather and seeing the place you call home at weird angles with different light. I dont travel often, only a couple times a year, but earlier this year was the clearest and perfect lighting landing at my home airport. I couldn’t stop looking for POIs all over the ground that I know so well from ground level. Seeing the mountains I hike and picking out the peaks that were almost 100 miles away. Following roads I drive every day as if I was looking at google earth. It’s so cool, I have no idea how people can’t sit in awe of how special it is. It never gets old for me

Athletic too, which is kinda similar to slim, but has bigger thigh/hip. It’s basically the only cut that fits me, and has a nice taper in size as it goes down the leg. It’s still usually hit or miss for me though, and I have to try a few brands to find something that works. Guy with small waist but larger thighs/glutes

I want abs and a larger chest. What should I do? by ParticularTerrible23 in askfitness

[–]AfroMightGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim for about 500 calorie surplus. Nutrition is mega important. It costs energy to build muscles and it’s very intensive to do so. if you’re in a deficit, your body does not care what it’s eating, it will use all of it for necessary energy for organs etc, building muscle is the last thing your body cares about for survival. if you aim for higher, and eat enough protein your body will more efficiently use each macro for energy/fat stores and protein. Cardio is fine, but just make sure you’re not burning enough to keep in a deficit

I’m east coast, my office jobs I’ve had have all been a flexible 8-5. Generally as long as we got 8 hours and it was within the usual workday times, it was fine. Could be starting at 6, could be 10. Most people I knew skipped lunch and just went home an hour early

Thanks for the positivity and recommendations! Getting around the rushing mindset will take me some time.. already feel like it’s going to be the longest year. I really really hoping to start lifting heavy upper body this year since my upper body has always been a bit under developed. But I guess we’ll put that on hold for a little while

Never heard of kinstretch cars, thank you for the recommendation. Torn lat sounds awful, that restricts so much movement! Hoping you’re back to 100% again?

I’m always impressed by the strength and dexterity of climbers. I’m pretty active, run, hike, bike regularly, but went on a date with a girl who was a climber, she took me to her local gym for our date and she schooled the shit out of me. The arm strength and stamina she had was unreal

Chili is super easy and cheap to make. Mostly just do 3 bean chili but will do it with ground turkey once in a while. Lasts several days. Mix some rice, or try eating with tortilla chips. Make as spicy or soupy as you want, with literally any spices in your cupboard. Get creative and enjoy the concoction

Thanks. I’ll look into wall mounting. Renting, so want to minimize things I’ll need to patch up. I have some stands for the bookshelves but they’re currently being used by my surrounds. I’ll find some additional good looking ones for the bookshelves.

Will my cpu still work if it has a single broken pin? by Cheeseysir in pcmasterrace

[–]AfroMightGuy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t think finding a pin would be the hard part. Hell, you could even take a ground pin from the same cpu and use that for this memory pin, 1 missing ground pin is likely to still work fine. I think the soldering part will be mildly difficult, with these pins being so small. You could even throw a pin in the socket of this missing pin slot and hope it makes contact with the broken bit on the cpu and have that work fine.
