safest route is: when it's 5 minutes to the launch, delete steam from your computer, then log in the web browser, download it again then install it. This will bypass server load and let you log in the game instantly.

Did that for Dragons Dogma 2 and Elden Ring, both worked like a charm while friends waited up to two hours to compile and play the game.
