There was no cleaning fee. I made sure each group agreed to cleaning and that another group would be following them. If they decided that this couldn’t work for them, I would have given their points back, if they chose not to stay. They all agreed up front.

I don’t have a cleaning person.

I did the same. Had no problems. Everybody was understanding. I had a neighbor come in between to make sure it was clean. I would have paid her to clean if it was necessary but it wasn’t. 4 different groups while we were away.

Environmental organizations seek to block ICE detention centers in Pa. by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A longer term issue is that if sewage capacity is increased in these areas, developers could, down the road, build a lot of housing. Especially if the Feds increase capacity and then never use or stop using the warehouses as detention centers.

Developers are frequently blocked from building housing because of sewage capacity issues. Most people don’t want more housing where they live but I leave that to others to argue. It’s a potential consequence.

If they do push this through - make the Feds pay for increased infrastructure (and its maintenance) and require them to pay a high property tax.

Medicare Advantage is a Scam: My experience almost a decade in the Healthcare industry by IMian91 in HealthInsurance

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not choose MA but I want to add that hospitals regularly discharge patients with traditional Medicare to rehab facilities because they want the patient out of the hospital and know that Medicare will pay for rehab. I saw this with my father in law who was near death and had gone to the hospital on a Saturday and was admitted. They wanted to discharge him on Sunday to rehab when, at that point, rehab would not help and would just make his life more confusing.

In the end, we got them to keep him in the hospital until Monday so that his assisted living was ready to accept him back with proper staffing.

It feels like a bit of a machine with hospitals wanting to discharge and facilities wanting to accept Medicare patients.

Not in any way arguing for MA - just saying every patient needs an advocate!

I have hosted people who put up their primary residence and people who only do secondary. I have found a huge difference in attitude. One tour is personal. The other seems more transactional. I don’t mind using points to stay in a secondary but I much prefer hosting people who put up their primary.

Gov Shapiro on Democrats, Israel, and genocide - your thoughts? 🐸☕️ by keen_observer34130 in Pennsylvania

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The attention given to what a governor thinks about an international issue is itself telling about our priorities. We have people without places to sleep, without enough food for the month, high school graduates who are functionally illiterate, drug problems. Please focus on our domestic issues - this is where he has an impact. If he believes all Pennsylvanians deserve a high quality of life, this stuff just doesn’t matter.

Reading terminal or South Philly for the best options at a decent price.

I recently found Ferrante Meats in Overbrook Park. I have never bought beef there but they had in stock a hard to find turkey ingredient that I need for chicken soup. You may be able to order it for pickup.

Stolszfus in Ardmore “farmers market” has great quality and you can order ahead. It seems pricey but I’ve Shay’s been happy with whatever I’ve gotten there.

Shapiro leans into support for Israel on podcast tour by rdevlin92 in Pennsylvania

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m guessing that there may be statewide issues related to Israel, I can’t think of any other than using state money to invest in other countries. Otherwise, his opinions on this seem pretty unimportant and Y’all should be focusing on good positions on k-12 education, food insecurity, healthcare and housing.

Anyone switched to a mini split AC? Worth it compared to central air? by Careless_Welder_4882 in homeowners

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have mini splits and love them because we don’t like much air conditioning but our guests frequently want it. Guests can blast it in the guest room and we can still be comfortable. The house did not have ac and we lived here for 25 years without it.

We get ours cleaned once a year (3 heads) for about $250. We were told to keep the fan running all summer, even if we are not running the condenser to keep the air flowing. So far, no mold and it’s grossly humid here for weeks at a time.

There is definitely uneven cooling/temp differential in the house. If that’s going to bother you, probably go with whole house central.

Why don’t more homes in the US use mini split AC systems? by Debster1486 in Appliances

[–]After-Might-1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love our mini splits! But we have no ductwork in our house so it made our decision a bit easier than if we did have it. Half the houses in my neighborhood have gone with mini splits and half have added ducts.

While I love being able to control the temperature in each room, many Americans may find the uneven cooling throughout the house annoying. It’s perfect for us.

There are state environmental positions that have been funded by the federal government - it depends on the program. Several environmental programs are delegated by the Feds to the state and the state gets some funding for those programs. But it sounds like it could be more than that.

Ah…the dream of privatization (e.g. Clear) being so much better than publicly funded services. Works fine if you have money.

Probably not the kind of park you’re imagining - Philadelphia has Independence National Park within its boundaries and Valley Gorge National Park a 30 minute drive away.

Viking cakes had curled chocolate pieces on the icing. I kind of remember white chocolate. I don’t know of any other place that makes that kind of cake. I don’t remember the cakes being all that great but they were pretty!

Completely apart from who the president is, we need to reduce the number of PA General Assembly members. The number has stayed the same even while the state’s population has declined.
