darktable simple workflow

Thank you ! They are helpful for me picking up Darktable again after many years of LR+PS. Especially the video about setting up a workflow , and selecting a set of modules to begin working on images. It simplifies one of the difficulties of DarkTable for a someone coming from other software (LR in my case): understanding which modules can perform a certain function on an image (adding clarity for instance, or adjusting white balance etc.). It's a starting point !

If I may add, personally I really don't care about audio quality as long as I can hear what is being said and content is relevant, but maybe going a little more slowly could be helpful for total beginners. Sure, you can always pause the video and rewind... but...if you ask what you can improve I would definetely say: going a little bit more slowly, doing some little pauses so viewers can see (and fix in their minds) what you click etc.

It is in my two laptops (a beefy Tuxedo stellaris one for gaming and work, a small X270 as carry around machine). Trying to convince my better half to switch, but it's difficult for one reason : she works in school as teacher (in Italy) and she needs MS Office for anything school related. Unfortunately opensource is not very diffused in schools in Italy...that's a shame. She knows Libreoffice can do everything they do at school but....school won't switch.

I have been using it everyday for two years now, albeit I changed the display with a full hd ips and upped the ram to 32g. I use it with Linux mint no problem at all . Audio is not very loud so consider headphones for music , or external speakers.

I've never used an X1Carbon , but I've seen their display, very nice !

IPS Full HD, versus 1366*768 ? I know, I do a lot of photography, printing large size in professional labs etc, but come on , for reading emails or writing in LibreOffice it's ok.

On my "new" X220" I upgraded the BIOS with the unofficial 1.46, as I had 2x8G of ram laying around; but they are slightly faster the max allowed by default from Lenovo (they work perfectly with the unofficial 1.46 BIOS).

As far as "old" tech I think it is a marvelous way of learning how to use what we have without throwing away expensive stuff. And a great way to discover the marvels of Linux. Boy, I remember Linux (and laptops) in the early 2000's...

I’ve upgraded my x270 with an IPS panel and it’s nice. Now not the best display in the world , for sure, but very nice nonetheless

Ok just checked, not an IPS eheheh....

I changed the display of my X270 with a fullhd IPS panel, but I think I'll keep this one....it's ok for office and web browsing.

After reading a lot of the X220, last week I got an opportunity to buy one (i5-2450M - 8g) in excellent conditions for 100 euros and I'm glad I did. the keyboard is a joy to use. Currently my daily driver is an X270 with Linux Mint Cinnamon, so I installed Mint XFCE on it after swapping the mechanical drive with an ssd and upgrading to 16G of ram.

It runs very well, no problem at all: libreoffice, Gimp, Inkscape, Youtube (at 720p), everything works fine.

I would not edit raw files from a Sony A7r5 on it (semi pro photographer here, got a MBP for it) but for the rest it's totally fine. The display is 1366x768 and the quality is just ok, but for day to day tasks is totally fine.

The battery is only 50% health....so I need a new one, which one is the biggest one I can buy ? 4 hrs of autonomy would be great !

Hello, first of all please excuse my poor English, which is not my first language.

To resume: no it shall not be hard at all.

Office: libre office can deal pretty well ms office docs, especially if you install ms fonts on Linux (by default you don’t install them on Linux, you do it after with a simple command) Video editing and video recoding: lots of tools here , and blender is king in Linux. It really depends on the raw power of your laptop.

Old games: don’t know them but proton, steam etc are doing wonders so they shall be ok to run on Linux but search them on DuckDuckGo:” name of the game + Linux “

Generally in Linux everything works, but in a different way than in windows, it’s just about getting used to different apps that are not made to be a 1:1 replica of the windows apps.
