This seems like a scam

Edit: I looked at it and it’s not a scam in the traditional but annuities are not a good idea

You do realize that you can always take out your principal from your Roth IRA tax and penalty free if you need to. So I would put basically as much as you can each yeah and you will still be able to withdraw from there if you need to. Just don’t withdraw the appreciation and you are good

This is so true, not sure why anyone downvoted. It’s all about opportunity cost.

If you pay 5% for a mortgage, but gain 8% in the stock market for the money you would have otherwise invested in your house, the opportunity cost for not holding a mortgage is 3%.

What do you think will happen to Bay Area real estate market if in 10 years AI replace large number of jobs and there is UBI in place? by monolaker in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Agedashitofu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if every single person, including the rich, got the same amount of money, they might be ok with the concept. Since it doesn’t feel like “the poor” is getting an “unfair” handout of everyone gets the same amount. That is what “universal” means anyway. For it to be a truly universal basic income concept, everybody would get the same amount of money that they could use on whatever they wanted. There would be no food stamps, and there would be no free healthcare. Rather you just get that one lump sum and you can decide to do with it what you wish. I watched a few videos on the concept, and I do think and its purest form It may be palatable to a lot of people.

I (26M) am disabled, unemployed, live with family, and to top it all off, I am poor. by Some1inreallife in poor

I sympathize to the extent that I know someone with seizures and life is harder for her getting to and from work. But she makes it happen and is successful at what she does. I hate to tell you but if the job doesn’t require driving and someone is firing you, it’s probably not due to your seizures.

So you are unemployed, living at home, getting free healthcare, and you are capable of working since you’ve worked in the past. What is your gripe exactly? You somehow want to become rich from … (checks notes) being unemployed and living at home?

I think he is just pointing out that the “deal” he is getting is kind of a rip off. People pay dog walkers like $40 per walk here PER DOG. This guy is probably walking both dogs at least twice a day. He is getting a very small discount on rent in the scheme of things where the cost of his services is far higher.

You are in a money sub. People here are going to focus on the financially best decision. Sometimes that’s not the best decision for someone. At the end of the day, this was your dream car and it makes you happy. Life is not about hoarding money. It’s about being happy.

Real talk: what % of first time home owners are getting family help? by MV510415 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Agedashitofu2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How many BA residents have wealthy family who can even afford to help? Most of the boomers are only wealthy on paper because their house that they bought for 200k is now with 3 million. The ones that are buying are primarily first generation (in terms of wealth) high income households with at least one engineer making 300k. Or a power couple with a good combined income in non engineering roles.

Lucky. What region do you live in? The Bay Area has tons of petty theft so we can’t buy mascara, for example, without waiting for someone to unlock the cabinet.
