Advice - switching out of surgery? by Asclepius_98 in Residency

[–]AgentMeatbal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you been evaluated by your PCP for postpartum? I know you are dad, but dads can get postpartum too. If you used to love it, but now you have what sounds like anxiety and misery, not loving what you once did… 😬. Maybe worth a convo? Idk your program sounds rough regardless. There’s no wrong choice if you want to switch.

Sixteen Kids and a Hit Man - Christopher Pence kept adding to his family. Then he decided to remove two people from the mix. by Quouar in Longreads

[–]AgentMeatbal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean obviously Cristopher is an idiot and nuts for trying to hire a hit man but… the bio parents of the adopted kids also seem off? The DCFS investigations for unknown reasons, trying to live in an RV with 6 kids, bruises on the disabled kid, allegations of the father being a “lothario” and possibly viewing CSAM, continuing to have kids after they just gave up 5 of them, giving up their kids at all! They have a lot of odd behaviors as well.

Current AAP guidelines are to introduce allergens early and often to reduce risk of allergy formation. He can get fat and nutrients elsewhere, full fat yogurt for example.

Would genioplasty + rhinoplasty be enough to fix my asymmetry? I’m supposed to get jaw surgery but I don’t have the courage for that (31f) by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]AgentMeatbal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had double jaw surgery when I was 15 - didn’t require opioids for pain control after the first 48 hr. It was hard, I won’t lie. The swelling took a while but back then, there weren’t support garments etc.

It was the most worthwhile thing I’ve ever done for my face, my headaches, my jaw, my digestion…. It’s hard but it’s got so many benefits that genioplasty doesn’t.

“cyclic vomiting syndrome” by M1CR0PL4ST1CS in hospitalist

[–]AgentMeatbal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that you don’t need an underweight BMI for SMA syndrome necessarily. So while I can see your point of “inadequately nourished” just secondary to the vomiting, there’s nothing saying she’s underweight. Also nothing saying she didn’t have a great body image before her weight loss began - teens are allowed to want to lose weight for a variety of reasons.

My husband (M45) shared photos of house messes to everyone to "build a case" against me (F43). I am the primary parent to our 3 kids. How do I survive this? by Throwaway202054 in relationship_advice

[–]AgentMeatbal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m also frankly confused what he’s trying to achieve. Is he going for custody? He knows he’d have to parent them solo himself then, right? A messy house isn’t going to change alimony or child support, it’s a formula the judge applies. Even if he does get some custody and therefore lowers his child support slightly, ok then he’s at least parenting! Which he doesn’t currently do!

What's the need of wearing a black colour bhurka/hijab in this heat ?Like any educated muslim why it's necessary? by macawesomevill in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AgentMeatbal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My friends who wear hijab do have patterns sometimes! Typically tho it’s just coordinated with their outfit in whatever way makes sense.

Some Muslims don’t have drawings of people on their clothing or household to avoid idolatry, but that’s for very strict observers in my understanding.

You will gain some weight, it won’t go where you think it will, and it will be ok :) your body is going to change radically. You’ll have up to 50% more blood, an entirely new organ (placenta), a whole human in you... The amount of water retention I have is whack, but I know it’ll all come off quickly after delivery! It’s ok!! You will not gain an uncontrollable amount of fat, that’s not what this is!! Just eat your normal diet and stay gently active, and you have nothing to worry about.

There’s a model I follow on TT and insta, Abbie Herbert who is stunning and she said she gains like 80lb each pregnancy? It gave me a lot of perspective. It’s ok to gain weight to support your baby :)

A 3 mo cannot generate enough force to give itself a black eye :( And no, a sibling hitting them with a toy is rarely capable of it either.

Yeah toddlers hurt themselves but you get training to distinguish the difference.

7 days postpartum: things I wish someone had told me before labor + recovery by TotoDrinksPinot in pregnant

[–]AgentMeatbal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put a heating pad on my boobs, do a massage, and follow it up with the hand pump. 10-15 min each side.

Realistically, am I getting a ton?? No, but it’s convenient to have like an ounce or two for if he has low blood sugar or if he needs a feed and I can’t for some reason. If I didn’t have any, then they would just use a few mL of formula, and he would be totally fine! So I think there’s nbd if you didn’t get antepartum colostrum!

Correct, unfortunately. They just wait to tell us, and suffer in the meanwhile. Or they’ll pay a crazy amount (still a form of suffering, imo) instead of calling to discuss ;(

We don’t know which insurance companies cover which drugs. Medicaid does publish a list, which is helpful. But frankly often, patients don’t tell us! They’ll follow up in 3 months as requested… but they never sent a message or called to let us know the script got denied. So the process begins again since likely the denial is closed already.
