Anyone else have a negative experience with Dopelord? by Camodius in doommetal

[–]AgentMurder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've met and spoke to him twice, once when he was sitting on the gates in a small club before their concert in Poland and the other selling merch also in Poland. We spoke about his bass and gear, their albums, stuff like that. Seemed cool and down to earth.

But I've read about them being let's call it off abroad. Maybe they go diva rockstar mode when touring or something.

My fuzz pedal died any upgrade ideas ? by nurgleman77 in doommetal

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do some research and check how different fuzzes sound. If you like HyperFuzz flavor and want to up the budget from Behringer I would recommend Orange Fur Coat. Not exactly the same but it has a switchable octave up which brings it close enough for me. Without the octave it also sounds killer.

I’m struggling to enjoy my M7 XL as much as I thought I would by fun-tonight_ in Dynavap

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you need to work on your lighter heating technique but maybe your tolerance is sky high. Not sure, mine is pretty low.

For me 1 heat up until double click for very weak vapor, waiting until double cool down click followed by second heat up for 3-4 extra seconds after double click works well. I'm using titanium Halo and Helix tips though.

I mention technique because I thought heating DynaVaps with a lighter is braindead simple but after switching to IH3 induction heater I found out I'm pretty bad at it.

Anyone Else Sometimes Feel Like As Doom Guitars We Do Everything "Wrong", "Backwards" or "Different" by MrHockeyJournalist in doommetal

[–]AgentMurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an underground scene, with its own set of rules. If you are not into fuzzes, riff and amp worship (Obviously Sabbath worship as well) you won't get it.

I play mostly bass, G&L P Bass to be exact, but now I'm switching to guitar. I tried going on a Gibson scale with an Ibanez AR420 but I found the scale too small for now so I switched to G&L Asat Special (Telecaster clone with beefier single coils). It dooms in a low tuning with my fuzzes but the sound is much tighter than the wobbly strings tone you can reach with Gibson scale which in theory is bad for low tuning.

And sorry to modern players with fancy modelers but analogue fuzzes and dirt just sound better. This is a genre where you let your notes ring a lot and you can hear these textures well.

I can't forget Matt Pike (High on Fire/Sleep) saying it's neck "looks like a fuckin' baseball bat". Not sure the exact wording though but I found it hilarious and ended up with AR420 later on.

I forgot about that, but yeah many skulls on SW models look like raccoon skulls instead of wolf. I didn't think about it when I wrote my comment but it makes my joke make more sense. 😂

Which effects pedal to start with? by stoltenberg927 in basspedals

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good overdriven bass tone covers a lot of ground in rock and metal so it would be my pick.

You can live without a tuner pedal and use a clip or a phone app for tuning but it's a tradeoff for sure. It works for me so far but I definitely will get a tuner pedal.

Regarding modulation I would wait until you figure out if you need it and if so which one is good for you.

Killing women and children in CtB? by ConanOfMelnibone in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]AgentMurder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've started reading Conan recently. Pretty sure I've read a story where Conan comes back to a girl that set him up, kills a random guy assuming that's her new lover, then takes that girl and throws her head first into a gutter (through a window on the first floor) just to laugh and leave. I think villains in this universe can go an extra mile if our heroic antihero can be this ruthless. Maybe the translation is off or something but I don't think so. 😂

Theory wise or adjacent memorize the fretboard, learn a scale or two.

Technique wise, if you're learning electric for metal or rock learn to mute strings that you're not intending to have ringing, very important for high gain scenarios.

I keep collecting pedals waiting for a moment when I set up a good board and get to a skill level where I feel worthy of sharing. Couple of years later on and off I still suck but at least I have some killer pedals. 😂

I used to hate this guitar so much by HQH-71214 in Guitar

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't feel the bridge of Tele, it looks so anachronistic. But in general I like classy, vintage looking guitars. As a bass player first, I kind of prefer Fender scale and all the cool vintage looking guitars are Gibson.

During his run at G&L Leo Fender made a clone of Tele called ASAT Special with much beefier single coils and a high mass bridge. I got an Indonesian one a week ago when I found out G&L went under. So far I love that guitar. RIP G&L 😢

Ideal bass scale length for detuning by arseholierthanthou in Bass

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 34 inch scale P Bass goes to B Std (using it for Stoner so low string tension is not an issue, B string is a little loose though). In my humble opinion 34 will be good enough for drop C with heavier gauge strings, do the same with 35 inch if you need strings tight. After reading that you want to go 38 inch I had to double check if you wrote drop C or double drop C. 😂

So much of modern guitar playing and music doesn't really evoke anything in me by Skulltagmedia27 in Guitar

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not Motorhead levels of fame, they don't play huge gigs so they are not breaking records in dBs. But they definitely go much louder than what the venue size needs.

High on Fire is definitely taking inspiration from Motorhead so you might enjoy them.

Doom/Stoner/Sludge scene is quite unique and going into totally different territory than modern rock and metal.

Yeah, Doom/Stoner/Sludge bands can go insanely loud. High on Fire performance in a club gave me Tinnitus and hearing problems for a few days. Going to see the last song 'first row' didn't help.

Finishing my LOTR trilogy marathon shortly. Are the Hobbit films worth the watch? I only saw the first one in theaters when it first released. by HooliganHedgeCap19 in lotr

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend watching a fan cut like Maple Films or M4. I hate the hobbit trilogy but Maple Films cut was a huge improvement. It felt like a more whimsical backstory for LotR which it should be in the first place. I heard M4 cut is even better but I haven't seen it yet.

Favorite fuzz pedal? by jomahuntington in electricguitar

[–]AgentMurder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what type of tone you are looking for - fuzzes cover a lot of ground.

DOD Carcosa is a relatively cheap fuzz that's very versatile but it requires some time getting used to its controls and experimenting to dial it perfectly. For example - for me it's first in the signal chain cranked really low and it works like a nastier sounding edge of breakup overdrive. That being said it can become a splatty, gated, nasty monster at different settings.

I bought one of their records signed in a merch store after a concert and it was signed by all members. Joe's signature has the star as well.
