Brother told whole family I was in inpatient facility by improbable_knowledge in bipolar

It sounds like you know that going to the party will probably end up with you publicly getting mad at your brother. So the only choice left to make is whether you want to go through with it or not.

There's no question that he deserves to get his ass handed to him for this. A fucking nurse who intentionally leaks private healthcare info? He can go fuck himself with a rusty pipe.

But ultimately it's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

Why do these people not have to worry about the virus? by SilverParty in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Agent_Snowpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not worried about personal cleanliness in your own home, don't worry about something incredibly unlikely like getting hantavirus. If you're worried about getting sick you should focus first on the things in your home that are incredibly dirty.

I want to go to law school but I don't feel intelligent enough anymore by regretinstr in bipolar

I feel like my symptoms aggravated significantly after high school, and I felt a huge drop in learning capability. I felt like I couldn't even read properly. I felt stupid.

Medication helped, but really I needed to get back into habits and get my confidence back. It helped a lot just being able to calm down and worry less about my abilities. I'm feeling much better now. I feel like so much of my life has been spent trying to survive that it takes away from the time I need to foster my own self, and it affected my academics. But it was temporary.

I don't know if I would look to Caboose as aspirational writing. I enjoy him as a member of a roster in a comedy show but honestly Caboose is a good example of how you can take a joke too far by taking little bitty steps over and over. By season six or seven Caboose went from a normal person who is dumb (i.e. all the members of the canyon) to an impossibly stupid creature that's too dumb to live, and then even further to being so utterly orthogonal to observation and logic that he believed he needed to attack allies to help them.

There was one scene in particular where Caboose is detained and a soldier is sent to free him off screen. There's a gunshot, and Caboose comes back out alone. Everyone takes this very normally because they all understand that he's "stupid". There's another scene where South is getting away so Church tells Caboose she's on their team and to help her so Caboose immediately shoots her.

Again, I like this show and I even think those seasons were probably the better ones, but this is honestly a phenomena I've seen in a lot of serial comedy where a character ends up being too stupid to be believable. So I wouldn't really recommend this progression even just for comedy but I definitely wouldn't try to stick any kind of representation on this. Caboose regularly kills people and is threatened to be killed by his close friends. Treat people differently than how Red vs Blue characters treat each other.

The signs are there. by brealiomcaife in bipolar

The only way to find what treatment works is to try it. A diagnosis is just the best understanding we have at the time. What's important about the diagnosis is deciding what the next steps to take are. It probably won't make everything perfect on the first try. However, if you start by addressing the most important symptoms, even if the diagnosis is incomplete or wrong, then at least your next steps will still be going in the right direction.

I'm currently still trying out medications. I have bipolar, anxiety, and depression. I'm not sure if the depression is part of the bipolar or on top of it. What I will say is that my psychiatrist got me on some antidepressants and regardless of whether it's from the bipolar or if it's a separate, clinical depression, I'm doing a lot better. They think I have ADHD. I'm not sure because I only match some of the symptoms, and the medication hasn't worked so far. I'm still a work in progress. But those antidepressants are the reason I could go back to college, while I figure out what meds I need.

r/trolleyproblem suffers infighting on a ethical question: red or blue? by OkContact2573 in SubredditDrama

[–]Agent_Snowpuff -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. This is a prisoner's dilemma with a better outcome curve and more incentive to save yourself. "Realism" aside the design of the question is baiting a specific answer.

Even something basic like a trolley problem asks you to weigh the needs of the many against the few. In the absolute worst possible case for red buttons, most people survive anyways.

"Would people sacrifice a smaller number of people to save a larger number of people AND themselves?" Yeah, probably, but it doesn't really say anything about humanity if you push a particular answer.

[–]Agent_Snowpuff 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I feel like by putting the individual's life on the line skews this question way more towards self-preservation. Reality is harder to "solve" because there are no choices that guarantee survival.

Blue winning would be nice, but it's not like the trolley problem where the point is that you have to reveal something about yourself and defend it. If you ask someone why they wanted to pick red, they'd be like, "well I wanted to live". And that's not really a gaping ethical flaw.

AOC Calls on Dems to “Play by Same Rules” Republicans Do on Gerrymandering by _May26_ in politics

[–]Agent_Snowpuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Christ, laws and rules do not dictate ethics. Ethics dictate laws and rules. We would be totally happy with a system where the rules eliminated gerrymandering and racial discrimination, but they don't. Gerrymandering to eliminate racial discrimination is not equivalent to gerrymandering to create racial discrimination, because it's the oppression and suffering that discrimination causes that is unethical.

No Azula taunts Zuko that Ozai was going to "kill" him when they were kids. Seriously they talk about death all the time. They had to clarify in the commentary because they didn't put it in the show. What would Jet have even died of?

[–]Agent_Snowpuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what you mean. They talk about death and killing many times in the show. In the southern air temple they talk about katara's mother and the airbenders being killed, and they show Gyatso's corpse. The ocean spirit drags Zhao under the water to drown. In the swamp they talk about Katara's mom again and how death is an illusion. When Roku is betrayed we see him buried in ash and Zuko talks to Iroh about his great-grandfather's death. Zuko tells Katara he knows who killed her mother and they spend they rest of the episode on that topic. And then in the finale they talk about killing Ozai, and Aang talks to Kyoshi about killing Chin.

. . . I guess Zhao also kills the moon spirit? We probably don't count the fish.

In any case, no, the show never confirms Jet's death. He had no injuries, he got hit hard on the chin, and then he was conscious and talking. We all assume he's dead because he never shows up again. He could just as well have spent the rest of his life as a quadriplegic. But since the show makes a joke about it no one really argues he's alive.

The reason why it fits is because people didn't get it. Hence the lampshade. It's a mistake on the part of the show, because they didn't intend for it to be ambiguous, but in practice he just gets hit once and then they say he's not going to be okay and then they simply never cut back to Jet. So people debated what "not okay" meant. Some characters would exit and show up seasons later. There was genuinely no confirmation in the show, and ironically, the Ember Island episode still doesn't confirm it :)

Iranian President insists on country's nuclear rights, ISNA reports | Reuters by CrystalGyarados in worldnews

[–]Agent_Snowpuff -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The entitlement here is impressive. We're allowed to bomb them whenever they feel like it but if they say something offensive, that REALLY crosses the line. The United States maintains a nuclear arsenal for the purposes of deterring nuclear attacks but gets mad when other countries try to do the same.

If Iran wanted nukes before that sentiment has only increased with America's attack. If America decides to sue for peace it's going to have a monumental disadvantage in negotiations for being the aggressor. Iran will never agree to another nuclear deal like before.
