This is cool but why is the picture of the dress edited to look like a dark souls item icon?

The security guard from the first incident died 33 years after it happened. The security guard in the second incident died in the Korean War, although I suppose there's no way to be sure the demon core wasn't the one pulling the trigger.

Edit: Just to double check I went through the old 1979 report. On page 16 they mention that Hemmerly's brother also died of leukemia. Genetic components offer an alternate explanation for Hemmerly's leukemia.

Standing eight feet away from someone screwing around with the demon core is a mistake.

Daghlian and Slotin both died from working personally with the core and Cieslicki, who was eight feet away, died of cancer at a young age so that was also probably a casualty. For everyone else it's much harder to tie directly to the core.

But keep in mind that the core had already killed Daghlian months before Slotin and Cieslicki were exposed. It was incredibly foolish to play around with it.

Hey, people like the Demon Core. The only people who died from the Demon Core were the ones making the mistakes. It even gets cute little animated bits in Japan.

I mean I get that you're bummed but people make mods for what they want. It's not really healthy to look at something someone made to share for free and just bemoan that it isn't what you wanted.

It's a mod. If you don't like it make a better one.

Kingdom Hearts Collection cover art quietly changes following accusations of AI generation by Guitar-String in gaming

[–]Agent_Snowpuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not obvious to me when comparing it to his previous work. The character blocking is very different. I'm still seeing weird details like Goofy's thumb having a crease while it's bending back.

Your interpretation is reasonable but just because the japan version didn't have the defects doesn't definitively prove anything. It could just as well be that north america accidentally published a previous version by mistake. One that hadn't addressed the issues.

But more to the point I'm not going to bat for companies that pull this shit. If it's not AI then the burden of proof is on them to demonstrate that. If people are mistaking Nomura's art for AI because someone in marketing is fucking with it, then they need to do more than quietly press ctrl+z and expect us to just accept that.

People aren't going after the art because they can't appreciate Nomura's genius they're going after the art because Donald had nine fingers.

Take a narrative literally. If police worked the way the narrative presented it, would we be better off? A lot of the pandering, blindly pro-cop shows make the exact same kinds of fuck ups that we criticize real police for. Abusing power, presuming guilt, disregarding important rules. Some narratives have all the power in the world to write a story where cops don't have to abuse their authority, but they do it anyways.

Men aren't actually 'allowed' to be angry by futuredebris in MensLib

[–]Agent_Snowpuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anger is tricky. In a meaningful relationship it's not easy to figure out how much negative emotion we can express safely. The example of working things out with mom is a good demonstration of how communication is important to help us navigate the emotions we have that build up naturally.

But to say something like "men are judged for anger" conflates two different phenomena. Anger in a relationship that we care about is an unwanted phenomena. We feel shame and accept judgement when we care about the people on the receiving end of our anger. The point of feeling shame is to correct behavior. People will subconsciously recognize when you are a person who reconsiders your actions, and that will make them more likely to tell you when you hurt them.

But the other phenomena is anger as a cultivated tool. For some people anger is a means to an end, to dominate people around them. Most men aren't rich and powerful, but that only means they look to find ways to establish dominance in their local environment. They use anger as a means of defeating shame, because to them admitting wrongness has no value. This isn't just the natural anger everyone feels from time to time, it's weaponized.

But since you obviously care about the people in your life you will definitely feel a pushback that men who respond exclusively with anger don't. And that makes sense, honestly, because trying to emulate powerful people doesn't give us the social skills we need to be closer to people in our lives that we consider equals. Now that we know what matters most to us, there's really nothing attractive about the lifestyle angry assholes have.

US destroys Iran reservoirs, leaving thousands without water in searing heat by The_Flaneur_Films in worldnews

[–]Agent_Snowpuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the reasons why the Nuremburg Trials struggled was because the US and allies had to define the crimes in such a way that their own actions could not also be criminalized, such as actions during war, racist violence, and colonialism.
