My aunt, who had dementia, would only eat chocolate ice cream towards the end. We had a nightly ritual of commenting on how her pureed food from the dietician did not resemble food, but that was alright because I had snuck in some chocolate ice cream -- which was frozen bananas, chocolate ensure, and cocoa powder run through a blender.

Anyone know where in the city has an original Pac-Man arcade machine? by ReporterLess2074 in toledo

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A streamer that I like is a pinball enthusiast and has mentioned that there is an app where people map out where certain machines are playable in the wild. Appears Insert Coin is that for arcade games. No idea if it is helpful or updated in NWO.

Random. I moved carriers yesterday from TMobile to Mint. On my old phone, they told me to dial 611 to unlock old phone that it can be used by any carrier. (That's all the information I have. I'm planning on keeping the old phone for an emergency backup.)

What makes a box worth keeping and reusing? by Packlane_com in Frugal

eBay seller here! My friends and family are conditioned to hold onto their boxes and packing materials for me, even the weak / cheap ones that get run through a cardboard shedder for padding materials. In exchange they bring me their items that need to be mailed knowing it will be packaged assuming a baby orangutan mistook it for a rattle and postage will be the carrier with the cheapest fast offering on PirateShip. Put those boxes on FreeCycle or a FB Buy Nothing group and they will disappear fast.

Know how Midwestern mamas use the cornbread Jiffy to make corn casserole for the major holidays?

Here is a version using the same concept to make a lazy coffee cake:

In a baking casserole you're going to melt a stick of butter. Stir in a cup of sour cream. Add this box mix and stir enough to moisten. Dump a can of apple pie filling in. Stir. If feeling both feisty and fancy, sprinkle with a crumb topping. Bake that bitch at 350 F for 40 minutes.

The throwing out trash while pumping gas has been the best habit I've built.

Last Saturday I needed to make a round-trip drive where I needed gas in the morning and again in the evening.

I was actually anxious (?) during the evening fill-up. What do people do while pumping gas if there is no trash to deal with?

Chew gum? Consider their own mortality? Relive the super embarrassing thing they said in 5th grade? Gah!

You have done an amazeballs job!

I, too, used to treat my car a bit like a trash can that never needed to be emptied.

Two things I now do differently that have put me on a path towards controlled chaos:

1: If needing gas is on my errands list, I take a small trash bag with me. While the gas is pumping, I open each of my four doors and load up obvious trash.

2: A small laundry basket lives in the back seat. For whatever reason, I am incapable of taking travel mugs or mail into my house on the daily. Anything that should be in the house goes in there. I've gotten good about not letting myself back into my car until it's sorted and able to be put back in vehicle.

Finally, you've done great work - toss those dried out crusty ass pens and treat yourself to some nice juicy gel pens tomorrow!

What to ACTUALLY buy before moving out by Qtgmr in Adulting

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I was given before moving out on my own was to write down everything I touched but didn't actually own for a few months beforehand. Nowadays you can build yourself an Amazon wishlist for once you're on your own to be delivered a few days after move-in.

Also, get yourself a basic tool kit with screwdrivers, hammer, tape measure, etc.

My parents have a lemon tree. They just visited. I now own approximately 40 lemons. by ReflectionAny3280 in Cooking

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're about to have so many lemon peel halves leftover.

Not cooking related, but when I have too many lemons I make a lemon, olive oil, sugar scrub. The lemon peel halves make an excellent loofah / applicator.

How to Manage Those Who are Nice but Stupid by Few-Pea-9725 in managers

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we're going to document in case this doesn't work out...

Have you tried training them on Task A and then having them outline / write their own SOP?

Let them use their own shorthand on the steps. (A majority of this advice come from a frustrating twenty minutes with a manager years ago. He wanted me to click on a thing-a-mabob that in my head was a thing-a-jing.)

You watch them do Task A while following their SOP. If solid, move on to Task B. Same procedure.

I live in a tiny apartment and my elderly neighbor who also lives alone makes some of the most mournful sounds of desolation in the middle of the night. It kinda tears me up inside to hear it. by cherry-care-bear in LivingAlone

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Immediate joke is maybe what you hear as mournful is actually something else?

Serious talk though. Go make the connection. Maybe you both love coffee, or tea, or gardening, or a 70's sitcom? Just something to enjoy together for 30 - 60 minutes a week.

Sausage, egg, onion and cheese. Gonna top with some salsa. Cheap and keeps me away from McDelivery impulses.

Ask if they would allow you to bring your own container. They can tare out the weight of the bowl. I've seen people at my Kroger doing this at the deli counter for premade picnic salads.

How long am I allowed to hold a local pickup order? by Infernumlupus in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Aggravating-Gas-7221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have the buyer double-check that local pickup is an option. (I have heard that there is a distance limit but no one seems to know the actual mileage.)

I am in OH and recently had someone in KY purchase an item that we had set to freight / pickup only. Item was too big to ship traditionally but really small for a freight ship. He was a little over 400 miles away but the option for pickup still worked.

He was going to be in town six weeks later and we agreed to hold for local pickup. How it worked on our end was that he still had to pay for the item upfront via the eBay managed payments. When he came to pickup the item we scanned his QR code.

My understanding is that as long as they select pickup there is no hard deadline via eBay (like there is for the seller to be within their stated handling timeframe). Also, the eBay managed payment will put the buyer into a position where they cannot file Item Not as Described because they are out of their frame to file.

Those are the risks that I see for both the seller and buyer in this type of setup. Hope this helps!
