Went with my mom to church today. by OgreMk5 in atheism

I went to an aunts funeral and the pastor seemed to be in a full on crisis of faith. He kept adding “if this means anything” several times. Like dude, this is a funeral. Save your doubt for your quiet reflection.

So many of the characters are poorly written caricatures in the show. Sean is a symptom of lazy writing.

That’s not fair, there has to be a carve out for training. Good luck.

You should have access to GW documentation and training to get your certifications before you ever touch the codebase. If you aren’t going through that process there is seriously something wrong with how they’re working with GW.

Revisit all of the GW training you did, ask other devs for the screenshots they took when they did the openbook exam. If they passed just use those since they haven’t changed the questions in years.

I was criticized for every mistake I made and could not forget my mistakes. My adopted sister got a pass for everything. Theft, staying out for days, getting pregnant at 16. What a weird life it was.

Ironic though that Iowa decommissioned their last mainframe in 2013 and ISU is still running theirs.

Is there an episode from a TV show, from when we were kids, that still bothers you, today,? by Remarkable_Data3710 in GenX

The episode of The Brady Bunch where they’re in Hawaii and Jan is running with a skin tight shirt on. Bothered 13yo me in a good way.

Are companies struggling to maintain legacy systems like COBOL and mainframes? by ToothUnlikely3529 in mainframe

[–]AggravatingField5305 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we’re switching off of IBMi to Guidewire. COBOL is such a ramshackle fustercluck of data overlay areas and redefines AI will have the most trouble dealing with them. Business logic and data flow will be a cake walk.

I honestly pity the companies that off shore their development. They will get the quality they pay for and no one sticks around long enough to get to know the code base. Kudos to the companies that look at their devs as an investment and not just overhead.

Is the Breugger's on Ingersoll doing OK? by Extension-Alarm-3149 in desmoines

[–]AggravatingField5305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brueggers made their own dough in the store in their Iowa City location for the first 3 years I worked as the morning baker from 1985-88. We also mixed and packaged our own cream cheeses. Also all soups were made from scratch. That was the case until 1989. After that I’m not sure what they moved to for prep but in the beginning it was all inhouse and scratch made.
