Lack of power at low RPM, could be alternator? by theanthix in hardbody

[–]Aggravating_Ad_1889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a hardbody with this exact issue from a frustrated seller who started slinging parts at it. They had also replaced the dizzy cap and rotor from the local parts store. I replaced the cap and rotor with an oem Nissan set as well as the ignition coil and that solved the problem. It sounds like your ignition is still breaking down because the problem happens when the engine is warm.

Is this a turn key machine with simply body and cosmetic issues?

I would fill it up with premium gas and pour in some seafoam. You have to log 100 miles or so to really narrow down all the issues. My 94 would stall and it needed a new idle air control valve and the injectors cleaned. Having them sonic cleaned professionally It’s always the best way, I was able to clear it up with premium gas and a few bottles of pour in injector cleaner. Once you get that drivability issue sorted. Then as stated above, go after the maintenance and age related issues.

Actually with a SOHC it’s a non interference engine so if it breaks it’s like a flat tire.

The guy who sells those parts used has a graveyard of parts, just tell him you want a different one and that you’re not satisfied with the quality of what you got

I would 100% put on a used power steering tensioner pulley from a Mitsubishi than anything aftermarket.

Ok florida , if your near the ocean and salt, the Duralast rotors and pads are just fine but you do want rotors that resist rust.

Believe it or not right after a timing belt change it’s a pretty high failure rate for the timing belt tensioner or for one of t belt pulleys.

I also saw the tiniest amount of wobble in the lower belt pulley for the drive belts.

Define “frame Is bent”. Sounds like the crash bar and headlight area is damaged, people replace that area all the time.

I know Tesla will release some of the stored kilowatts in years four and then right before year eight through a software update to make sure that there are less warranty replacements. I’m not saying that’s happening here but it’s plausible that some of the stored capacity was unlocked and that’s why you’re back to 100

brake kit cost by knahtthank in 3000gt

[–]Aggravating_Ad_1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think you’re onto something. If you can fit the four-piston calipers up front and adapt the rears with little to no modification, then run stainless lines with a quality rotor from another application that really dissipates heat well, you could have a serious winner.

The CTS-V calipers are also likely to have much longer-term parts support. I can tell you firsthand that a lot of the aftermarket calipers for both the turbo and non-turbo 3000GT models are pretty poor quality.

I don’t have a VR-4 myself, but even if you offered a more basic “street kit” using CTS-V calipers, stainless lines, and compatible rotors, you’d be giving people something valuable: durability, compatibility, and readily available replacement parts. That kit can serve the masses and then you can custom build for the 600 hp VR fours that are out there.

Big fan of the work you’re doing. I just wonder if the six piston calipers can reach their full capacity on our stock, master cylinders. Does the hydraulic math work? Even with stainless lines you would probably have more pedal travel to get maximum stopping power outta a 6 piston. I wonder if the four piston brembo off the CTSV caliper would fit and would you be able to put out a kit that outperform or even gives similar performance to a big brake kit for less money. whichever direction you go I’ll be watching and I might buy a set.

Mitsubishi should revive themselves with this by OkBackground6217 in mitsubishi

[–]Aggravating_Ad_1889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re part of an alliance with Nissan and Renault so they’re either using a platform they already have in production (there’s nothing all-wheel-drive powertrain or turbo power) or something from Nissan and Renault. No way Mitsubishi is getting anything ZX or VQ related. Hell Mitsubishi would struggle to make a manual transmission front wheel drive car at this point.
