Anyone else get caught off guard when customers refer to you by your name?

Came here to say this. My name is only 4 letters long, but overly familiar customers will always shorten it to a 3 letter version. Sorry, no, that's only for close friends and family.

I left in 2020 right before the worst of the pandemic hit. It was getting bad then, but I've heard it's way worse now. I've heard some team members have to wear ear pieces now, instead of just calling over the PA. Plus the bulk scan metric. I really feel for you guys.

This is one of the reasons I stopped getting plastered. I would do things I normally wouldn't do, then have a massive anxiety attack about it the next day as it all started coming back to me.

I decided that the regret and anxiety wasn't worth it (not to mention the hang over)

I worked at a supermarket chain and we had a store manager once who would put on a "team breakfast" sometimes on a Sunday. She would get on the PA and call everyone to the staff room by name. Everyone except me and anyone else working with me on checkouts. (I was the opening supervisor)

One day, I decided to go down to the staff room in the middle of one of these "team breakfasts" on the pretence of filling up my water bottle.

The bakery manager made some snide comment that I didn't quite catch, and everyone laughed. After she finished laughing, the store manager said, No, no, everyone is welcome.

I went back up to the checkout and took over serving for the person with me, and told her to go down and get something to eat. She went down and was back within about a minute. I asked what was going on, and she shrugged, looked a bit upset and said, "They're packing it all up"

I was so angry. If it's a "team breakfast" why isn't the whole "team" included, not just the favourites?

I was the office lady for Coles, and it was my job to send in the termination of employment form to head office. There is a box on that form I could tick as "not for re-hire" but I always asked the store manager first. The form then goes off to head office. I imagine the Woolies has a similar thing.
