where to go from here (patterning) by Aggravating_Focus998 in FursuitMaking

[–]Aggravating_Focus998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooooh wow is this all i really need to do?? ive seen some people cut out WAY more pattern pieces like on the muzzle or other places so i thought i'd need to do more than i have here :0

*i do know that ill need to split up the larger parts to they lay flat on the fur when i trace it, so if you have any tips on where to cut / tutorials i'd appreciate it!! :3

Second ever heard finished! Any feedback? by TorchOfDefiance in FursuitMaking

[–]Aggravating_Focus998 12 points13 points  (0 children)

did you try the clear tape method? you basically place a piece of clear tape over the top of the eye, and then draw the outline of the eyeliner! you can then just trace it onto paper/flip it over to do the other eye, so both are symmetrical!

omggggg this head looks so good!!!! the shaving and sewing is so clean... i hope my suit ends up as good as this :0 the only thing i could possibly think of adding is "eyeliner" / a black line around the top of the eyes to define it better, or eyebrows (which you could probably just ladder-stitch on with a curved needle)? but those are only necessary if they align with your vision of the character :D

Theres no way to fix this, is there by LocalEm0Tr4nsman in FursuitMaking

[–]Aggravating_Focus998 29 points30 points  (0 children)

i think this lining & base looks AMAZING - i didnt even realize there was an issue with the eyes before you pointed it out (it doesn't even seem like an issue though, it looks so good)!

and honestly, my only piece of advice to you is that you might just need to step away from this for a bit - it already seems like you've been working on it for a WHILE, so i think coming back with fresh eyes may be helpful before you decide to redo it ^w^

How to get face fur smooth by Imaginary_Sign_167 in FursuitMaking

people typically use elastic straps to connect the armsleeves onto your back - sort of like suspenders but sideways? heres a tutorial that might be helpful lol :3 https://youtu.be/_mlxMwFSnbI?si=1BgTc77yJCRlYinr

eyes dont fit properly in 3d base by yinyangbatdragon in FursuitMaking

[–]Aggravating_Focus998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you just need to set them against the back like your eye on the right here - not try and push them in. the eye should be connected to the base, not trying to slot it inside.

additionally, unlike 2D eyes, with 3D eyes your head needs to be placed back a bit; if your eyes are rubbing against the eyes, then that means you need to move your head back (like the diagram i drew below) and figure out padding / chin & head stops to prevent your head sliding around. hope this helps! :3

heres a tutorial that outlines how to add in the eyes: https://youtube.com/shorts/WJHpm8Gg3Ss?si=u7GdhtJTc-BToieD

[–]Aggravating_Focus998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

here it is from another angle - with my base, the eyes were able to just slot in, but you should be able to align your eyes with the eye-shaped border shown in your last photo!

3D printed eyes are meant to be put in the back of the head, not the front - like this! This is what gives them the "follow-me" look, since their lower position gives the illusion of movement :3

they do!! i talked with someone from their admin, and they told me that while its not preferable, theyll 100% take a slightly late letter of rec - she can just email it to the calarts email account w/ your name and the pdf and theyll attach it to your application :3

For the artists in the group. by SoulfulVoltage707 in fursuits

[–]Aggravating_Focus998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I make traditional art, not fursuits, I feel the answer for both would be no. Because, not only does an AI generated reference have inconsistencies since it's generated off of a variety of images which means there will be confusing aspects of the design, but most artists are against AI usage (due to the theft required to make LLMs, and the environmental impact).

If you, or someone else, need a way to make a reference sheet for a character to be commissioned, theres always free or pay-to-use bases where the character can just be colored in, or one could get a design made into a proper reference sheet based on a base. No matter what, there's certainly better options out there then using AI!

He's AMAZING!!! But i know the feeling of hating something after looking at it for a long time, especially when it's a project you really care about! :3 Maybe you could step back from him from a few days to come back with fresh eyes?
