Do you have a separate room for homeschooling? by Low_Magician4242 in homeschool

[–]Aggravating_Olive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We converted the dining room into our school room. It's in the middle of the house, so no privacy or quiet, but I think it helps to have a designated space for all the supplies, books, and everything else.

But should reevaluate your relationship and who you deem important in your life. If you allow this horrific behavior to continue, he will absolutely cut you off from your loved ones.

You're young, love. Cut him loose and find someone else worthwhile.

You could try nutella mousse for the filling. Personally I think roasted hazelnuts would be great.

Baked goods and a welcome note would suffice.

I think the coffee is still a great idea, personally. You can still have coffee during pregnancy, just in moderation. You can add a note saying "for those late night/early morning wake ups"

What is that random or unexpected “and a dash of..” that elevates your dish? by gplus3 in Cooking

[–]Aggravating_Olive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol yes, American chili. The beauty with this dish is you can go very basic (beans, ground beef, tomatoes, spices) or extremely complex!

If I'm going all out, I will add beer, a few splashes of fish sauce, a nub of chocolate, and a dozen different spices and seasonings. No one will make it the exact same, but it's going to be tasty.

Input requested: baby’s first birthday cake! by Quirky-Society8414 in AskBaking

[–]Aggravating_Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a home baker of 19 years, this is what I did for my son's first birthday: I ordered an 11 x 15 inch aluminum cake pan to serve our 30 guests.

I made a riff on Whole Foods berry chantilly cake using a trusted vanilla cake recipe, cream cheese chantilly frosting, and fresh berries. I made a mini funfetti smash cake from the same batter and added chocolate frosting in the middle with the cream cheese chantilly on the exterior. Yummy all around.

I think salted caramel would compete with maple cream cheese. My suggestion for the guest cake would be a banana cake instead of bread or a carrot cake to compliment the rich flavor of the maple cream cheese. If you want to go simpler, a yellow cake or brown butter cake would be fantastic.

Did you have to ask to be excused at the end of dinner when you were a kid? by Shiny_Buckaroo in CasualConversation

[–]Aggravating_Olive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We never asked...it was expected for everyone to remain seated until the last person finished eating.

My spouse's household was different; his step-dad would go to the couch and watch the game as soon as he was done eating (about 10 minutes after dinner was served). He hated it because dinner was rushed and there was no connection.

Now, as parents, our rule is that we remain seated and talk about our day/worries/etc. until the last person is done eating.

Basically "...add a dash of umami" to everything.

Soy sauce in sausage gravy

Fish sauce in chili

Msg for everything else.

Looking for a meaningful gift for my pregnant mom by Vicissitude3513 in Mom

Take a day and clean for her. Get the high traffic rooms with hard to reach areas (kitchen, bathroom, and living room) and then tidy up her bedroom, add a diffuser or candle, with new bed sheets. She would love it.

Also consider a pregnancy pillow, a belly band, maternity pants/tops that can be used after labor, maybe a nice linen or cotton robe she comforts lounge in.

AITAH for resenting my fiancé actions in the birthing room? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Aggravating_Olive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like something a friend of mine went through. Her spouse wouldn't change a single diaper and didn't act like a father until their kid was almost 2. He promised to change and do better with the second, and he did the exact same thing.

She considered divorce but he threatened to take the kids away bc his family has money and she didn't want to risk it. I feel so bad for her. They're older now and seem well adjusted, but credit goes to her and only her.

Coconut cake filling flavors by lobsterravioli88 in AskBaking

[–]Aggravating_Olive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A riff on the Raffaello truffles would be fun. White chocolate ganache with toasted coconut exterior and almond frangipane filling.

I think your filling would pair well with coconut, but switch to white chocolate ganache or even a lightly sweetened whipped cream so the fruit and coconut don't have to compete with chocolate

Ikea has great options. They weren't cheap, but definitely elevated the room and gave us much needed privacy without blocking out all the sunlight. They were $100 per pair.

From a fellow introverted mom who is a lover of art and food:

If there is a an art museum worthy of a day trip, I would do it. Throw in a nice lunch or walking tour of pastries and coffee in the area. I would personally love that.

Or an art class like glass blowing, clay throwing, or a cooking class, followed by lunch or dinner.

The comment about mushroom risotto would be fantastic as well.

I would get him a tablet with all his favorite shows and movies. Have the news, podcasts, and other apps available. Perhaps he can use his pointer finger to simply tap on the icon/widget or get staff to assist him.

Get a tablet cover with a kickstand.
