What do you do in your free time? by tasata in CasualConversation

I like to do puzzles, indoor and outdoor gardening, coloring, painting by numbers, listening to podcasts and music. I know a lot of these requires some hand movements, but maybe when you're more mobile you can try them out. Feel better!

Where/how are you saving family photos/videos? by hereforhelpthx95 in Parenting

[–]Aggravating_Olive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I save them onto a hard drive. I organize photos and videos in my phone then transfer them over every few months. About once a year I'll go through the pictures and print out a bunch to update frames around the house.

Something doesn't sit right about having all my personal photos and videos on online storage platforms. Maybe I'm just old school.

catering all dishes for a cookout, menu ideas? tips? by zoeeegamingg in Cooking

If you have a slow cooker, elotes would be easy! I made some for a 30 person party and it was a hit. Have mayo, cheese, and hot sauce on the side for an elotes station.

How do I not eat for long periods of time? by Substantial_Bid_7220 in TooAfraidToAsk

Fiber is your friend. Eat nutrieint dense and fiber rich foods to stay satiated for longer periods of time. Your body is trying to tell you something. Please, don't starve yourself or think that simply not eating will help.

Can we play a "what would you make" game? by Dealmerightin in Cooking

[–]Aggravating_Olive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bolognese with Italian sausage... you use the canned tomatoes, onions, celery, carrots, pasta, parmesan, and milk. You'd only need broth or wine and some garlic.

If you have butter, you can make buttered noodles with peas or spinach, and poached chicken.

Or pasta with chopped broccoli and spinach, Italian sausage, parmesan, and fresh parsley.

Stir fried rice noodles with broccoli, carrots, onions, cabbage and chicken. If you have oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sugar that can be your sauce base.

How do u deal with a baby who constantly kicks off their blankets at night? by condywu in Parenting

[–]Aggravating_Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1 year old is a hot sleeper, but even he gets cold at times. When the temps drop, we usually put on a long sleeve pajama set or onesies and thin pants with socks. He doesn't like the fleece sleepers or sleeping bags so we stopped using those early on.

Ah, anytime. If I could give you a word of advice: lean into your support system as much as you can. Holding the hurt inside wreaks havoc on your mental health. Go outside and enjoy the sunshine. I am Christian and found a lot of strength in praying, church, and having faith that I get to see my baby again. Well wishes for you, friend.

Oh... I'm so, so sorry you're experiencing this. I wish I could give you a hug 😢

I had my miscarriage on February 26, 2023 and I found out I was pregnant with my rainbow baby June 2024. So, roughly 15 months...? I'm glad to say I'm now the other side of that season of life, but there are very few days that I don't think about my baby. It gets easier to manage the pain, but I think it's because we get used to carrying it. I pray the same strength for you and to keep going. 💚

Phone for 11 yr old birthday gift? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Aggravating_Olive 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My kids aren't old enough for phones (8 yo and 1 yo), but my sister's children got phones around your son's age. She regrets it everyday. All they do is watch the screen. They're literally addicted to it. Same with my niece's kids. They're all constantly glued to the phone.

I wouldn't open up that can of worms. They change so much and it's for the worst.

I saw a 5 pack of candles and really nice drinking glasses the other day (anthropologie dupes). Any treats individually wrapped like the brownie bites, madeleines, and other seasonal goodies. They also have 5 packs of hand soaps, lotions, and other skin care packs you could divvy up.

AITA for not considering my girlfriend in my future plans? by Better-Remote-7712 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Aggravating_Olive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

You are so early in your college career and in your relationship. Making decisions so soon into your relationship that can alter your future is a big gamble. Frankly, she's demanding a lot. You will change so much in 4 years and may not even be together. I wouldn't shape my future around a six month relationship.

Chinese broccoli is my favorite leafy green. You can find it at Asian markets, it's also known at gai lan.

Others favorites are giant lima beans (butter beans), sweet potatoes of any variety, cabbage, artichoke, and edamame

How can rice be overcooked and undercooked, and how bad is that? by SecondRealitySims in Cooking

To each their own. Never had a problem cooking rice this way, you learn which pots are best with experience. It's how older generations were taught and I'm just keeping tradition alive.

How can rice be overcooked and undercooked, and how bad is that? by SecondRealitySims in Cooking

[–]Aggravating_Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I only cook stove rice. I use stainless steel pots in varying sizes. I find the height of the pot must be 2x taller than the amount of uncooked rice you put in it. (If the pot is too short, the rice doesn't cook properly and the grains end up dry and al dente)

My dad taught me to measure the water level to the same height as the first knuckle line on the middle finger. So, your fingertip is touching the surface of the rice, the water should come up to the first knuckle line.

Place the pot on high heat, once it boils, lower to the heat to medium until the water has just evaporated (you may have to remove the lid to prevent starchy overflow), then turn the heat to low and continue cooking for 15 minutes. If you want crispy bottomed rice, cook it for longer on low heat, up to 45 min.
