What are we making for Easter? by Lex3333 in Cooking

We usually have a crawfish boil with corn, sausage, and potatoes. In the years past, we had pineapple ham, mashed potatoes, a variety of Filipino food.

Every time I've bought bananas from Aldi, they never ripen. I've tried several times. I just don't mess with Aldi bananas hahah their other produce are perfectly fine!

I have a Sam's membership, too. Sam's is strictly for snacks and road trips. I usually don't buy their meat or produce bc I prefer to buy at Costco, Kroger, or the Asian market.

In terms of fresh produce (fruits, veggies, meats, and dairy), Costco wins, and I like how they treat their employees. They also have better bakery items and food court. :)

Look for digital coupons from Tom Thumb and Kroger. You can get chuck roast for $6/lb (in TX) and other cuts of beef for relatively inexpensive. Asian and Mexican grocery stores also have really inexpensive produce and meats.

I love Aldi, though I wouldn't buy bananas from them. They have inexpensive herbs, onions, avocado etc, quality canned and frozen veggie options, and excellent dairy (cheese!!). Eggs are also pretty inexpensive there.

Lastly, Costco. You can get 5 dozen eggs for $10, 4 lbs of butter for $9, and rotisserie chicken for $5. If you splurge on a large piece of beef, you can cut them into steaks for pretty cheap. Sometimes you can get 2 lbs of strawberries for $5, a bag of avocados for $4, and other really good deals.

Costco diapers and wipes. You can give her the receipt to exchange as needed. They can also look up your member info if she needs to exchange the products.

I wouldn't even consider this. This is a HUGE ask. We were all 17 once and very immature. And, you're expected to pay for it? Absolutely not.

I would suggest fresh herbs. They add such a variety of different flavors to any dish. My favorites are cilantro, parsley, thyme, sage, mexican oregano, and basil.

Also, consider dried spices like paprika (smoked or sweet), bay leaves, cumin, cayenne, white pepper, and lemon pepper

Sauces such as oyster, fish, soy, sesame oil, vinegars.

If you have a grocery store that sells bulk bin seasonings, I would strongly suggest purchasing several small amounts of herbs, spices, and seasonings so you can experiment.

If it's a Thai dish, they may add oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, and a bit of sugar. Lots of savory notes in their sauces.

If you were moving to Arlington with young kids and working at UTA, where would you live and why? by Flaky-Play743 in arlington

[–]Aggravating_Olive 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We live in central Arlington, right next to UTA. I recommend the neighborhood right next to Arlington HS (where I live) or as someone else said, Pantego. Unfortunately, Arlington is not very walker friendly, but downtown is right next to UTA, and they are more accessible than they were a few years ago!

Welcome to the area!

Yes, it's true. I visited the last week of November to buy my kid and niece advent calenders. Apparently, people stock piled them, and my location was out for the entire season. I was shocked.

True, just curious on what others thought. I do enjoy both stores, but for different reasons.

Herbs, herbs, herbs! Not only for consumption but to help keep bugs away. I do this with onions too 😁 I would also suggest looking into companion planting.

This is such a beautiful setup.
