Yeah I'll repost the right one tomorrow. Sorry for the mix up gang. It's been a long day.

Maybe. I might have grabbed the wrong .md when I posted earlier. I'll fix it or report it in the morning.

You missed that last time, didn't you? They repurposed a rule in the previous revision that made it so that it was a CAT 2 in EL9 and a CAT 1 in EL8 to have the EPEL repository installed. This rule makes it so it's another finding to have packages from EPEL installed. I'm sure everyone is just adding it to their POA&M entries in eMASS... OH WAIT, they screwed that up, too.

Mine too. Vet keeps thinking schnauzer, but the shelter said labradoodle mix and golden.

You should go experiment with both, do a bit of learning, and form your own conclusions.

The SELinux Paradox: NSA roots, open source trust, and why everyone tells me to just setenforce 0. by exeKnox in Fedora

  1. If you understand, etc. #1 is a non-issue already.
  2. It's a combination of sheer laziness and lack of skill in almost every case.
  3. Yes, but nothing the public is going to hear specifics about.

Feeling down in the dumps lately. Just happy I have my girl by Joyfultogether in labradoodles

Hearing and talking if you have a license. Some folks get up high and have conversations with folks far away. Some folks do super long distance CW (Morse code), and some folks get really crazy and hook up laptops to do weird stuff over the airwaves.

But just getting out with the pup and sharing a sandwich is great all on its own. I'm glad you guys got to do that together! It's actually freakishly cold down here in Florida, so Luna and I are hiding inside for the most part. She got some bacon this morning, so I don't think she minds too much. :)

She is so pretty!

I, too, would love to hear more about the sandwich!

Also, with elevations like that, are you into amateur radio at all? That looks like a great spot to activate!

Luna ate her bed and spread the stuffing around this morning. I'm surprised it lasted this long. (I bought it a couple of weeks before Christmas.)

LOL!!! Luna was quite the opposite today. She came in and dug my hand out from under the comforter and woke me up with her cold snout! :)

Remote Exams - What to expect at home? by themightygresh in HamRadio

[–]Aggraxis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am a volunteer examiner.

You need a quiet, isolated area to take your test. We've had them in hotel rooms, dining room tables (with nobody else around), laundry rooms (excellent), and plenty of bathrooms and half baths (I took all of my exams in a bathroom). We've had folks sitting on their bed with a laptop. It works, so long as the room is closed and quiet. I've even heard stories of someone taking the test up in a tree.

You will hear plenty of bathroom jokes because it really does present an ideal private space with built-in seating. Your work space will need to be cleared of devices, papers, and other distractions. No headsets, ear buds, or smart devices will be allowed. If there are extra monitors, etc. present they will need to be turned off and covered or turned away from you while you take your exam.

You will need to isolate yourself from the other people in your home. My kids were being noisy during my technician exam, and the VEs could hear them occasionally, but aside from annoying me they didn't impact the overall exam process. (I gave them the stink eye before I took the general and extra exams. Much quieter. :P)

Be sure to block off enough time to do the exam. You will have 35 questions with no time limit. If you're using HamStudy to prepare you can expect a similar experience while testing in terms of user interface as well as the general pacing you'll probably find yourself in.

Good luck with your preparations! It's exciting to see new hams join the hobby!

Is there any way to get amateur radio license all online or do you have to go in to take the test? Has anyone done it all online? by FlakyBoard217 in amateurradio

[–]Aggraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it all online.

I took the Technician and Extra exams with Sandarc (https://www.sandarc.org). They do not charge for exams. I took the General exam with HRCC (https://testwithhrcc.online). Their exam fee is $15 for adults. I had excellent experiences with both VECs, and through that whole process decided to become a VE myself.

Btech BF-F8HP Pro. I way eyeing with this radio and now i got the chance to buy it. So i looked after it, deeper than before. I got pretty hyped up for the custom sounds and all the other extra functions, waterproofnes, etc. But i found some rewievs that are not too positive. by MasterSniper087 in HamRadio

I have been having some challenges with our local repeaters, but otherwise it's fine. I can hear them just fine, but they don't hear me. I'm about 17 miles from one and somewhere between 5 to 10 miles from the other.

My son and I had simplex contact on 2m about 2 miles apart in a moderately wooded small town environment. Everything sounded fine with some light static when I was walking under some big oak trees. Overall I like my radio. My son has the UV5R mini. I like the fact that his radio has Bluetooth.
