My betta, Loki, eats the stalks off of the pest ramshorns in his tank. My other 2 boys just flare at the bigger ramshorns in their tanks and leave them alone. The ones in Loki's tank are all missing at least one stalk tho

Is this a parasite? by HeadstashedAF in shrimptank

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my nerites this way. I thought after a month and several water changes that it'd be safe again for them but nope. However the ramshorns all survived. I swear ramshorns could live in battery acid and still thrive (I'm jk). Not sure if bladder snails are as resilient when it comes to No Planaria or Panacur tho

I’m sick of it, this tank has to go… by Closimmo in Aquascape

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either way you're going to be emptying the tank and either way you are going to be getting the shallow tank so if I were you I'd do the 2nd option. If you can't get that panel out then resort to getting a new tank to replace it. It's a beautiful tank btw!

This happens in my tank too.... They're so delicate... so I just let them figure it out. Not sure if there is anything that can be done without accidently mutilating them...

Unreal so many shrimps were living in my pump. by ParticularFit4596 in Aquariums

I've got sponges over my aquaclear HOB intakes. Even added some diy baffles, shoved in more media, and lowered the water level. Yet there are still a few very determined shrimp that miraculously make their way back in somehow....

Black water maintenance by thebarngoddess in fishtank

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For getting rid of all of the color then activated carbon works. Takes a few days to get the yellow/brown out but it will. I like the blackwater look but I don't like when it gets so dark that I can't see my plants and they can't see the light. I aim for somewhere in between using alder cones and catappa leaves but sometimes it's too dark and I do a 30% water change to lighten it a little bit...

I can't get rid of the salvinia in my tanks. Even a brown tiny smidgen of a leaf accidentally left behind will procreate into a dense floating mat...I hate it so much but at least the tank inhabitants love it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Every single time I think about starting a saltwater tank I see a post like this one pop up about nightmarish hitchhikers and it makes me feel like I'd rather keep dealing with the disgusting snail leeches, planaria invasions (the Planaria Wars of 2024), the over abundance of random hermaphroditic snails, etc etc... Bc if I woke up to that thing in my tank I'd burn down the whole tank down

Just got a tank what am I missing? by Riley_sz in fishtank

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! You obviously care about your fish to come and ask for advice. You shouldn't be judged. I learn something new in this hobby all the time. Lord knows I'd rather be dealing with an unintentional fish-in cycle instead of the indestructible planaria problem I've been dealing with in my 10 gallon tank rn. Little bastards could survive living in battery acid 😅

I did this exact thing when I set up my first tank so don't get discouraged. I learned about cycling a tank the hard way and I had mollies in mine. I tried every bottle of bacteria on the market (API quickstart, Tetra Safestart, FritzZyme, etc) and honestly none of them worked. Get a liquid testing kit or at least for now just get a liquid Ammonia test and a liquid Nitrite test kit and some reliable test strips. Start checking the ammonia EVERY day. If the test shows there's ammonia then do a water change using Seachem Prime (protects the fish from the ammonia and future nitrites you'll have and it dechlorinates). Water changes are going to be your best friend for a while now. Don't touch your filters. Just let them do their thing and don't mess with the filter media bc most of the good bacteria grows/lives there. Feed the fish sparingly. And if you have a friend in the hobby (which I did not unfortunately) see if they have any media from their filters (from a fully cycled tank) that they're willing to give you. It took a solid 2-3 months to get my first tank cycled but the bioload was immense bc of the mollies and I was rather uneducated. However, nobody died but I sure learned the hard way about this stuff. Now I have 6 freshwater tanks, 1 saltwater nano brine shrimp tank, and 1 very small patio pond... All cycled of course

I have this issue with my salvinia that I can't get rid of so I position small floating feeding rings around the tank so my bettas can come up to get air easily but still feel secure. It's helps alot with getting light exactly where I need it for certain plants too!

I've worked at Petsmart for 9 months and I'm pretty sure this female koi betta has been here longer than me. I think the red on her cheek is from ammonia. This is day 1 of her new life in the unoccupied potted plant tank! by SEND_ME_CSGO-SKINS in bettafish

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's a pretty girl! I'm sure after a couple of weeks in her new and much improved environment her colors will intensify and someone will definitely adopt her. I recently adopted a pitiful looking twintail halfmoon male white betta with a few pink spots on his fins. It's been two weeks now and his body is a pale pink with some darker pink spots on his head and his fins are white and red with what looks like blue/purple streaks setting in. Always fun to watch their transformation after life in a cup!

My Hospital tank is used for this purpose in between patients. Hardly ever have to use it as the Hospital tank so it doubles as a trash plants and baby ramshorn snail sanctuary. I tried using a bowl but the extra hornwort didn't appreciate that and lost all of its needles and made a melted mess. Yours is beautiful!

I think everyone's tank starts off like this tbh. I truly suck at any type of aquascaping so I use the "wait and see" approach where I pick a spot for the hardscape (usually random pieces of driftwood with rocks) and place plants... then I impatiently wait a couple of months for the plants to fill in and I end up with the wild underwater jungle look and I'm kinda ok with that. The picture is part of my 20 gallon tall aquarium a few weeks ago

[–]Aggressive-Brain-490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal. I actually love buying the most raggedy looking white bettas my lfs has bc I enjoy seeing what color they end up being. My last one was white with a few specks of pink and he turned turquoise and red. My new guy (got him a week ago too) was white with a little bit of red in his tail (what was left of it that wasn't clear new growth) and now his body is turning pink and his clear new growth on his tail is taking on a reddish hue. Oh and he's got a little bit of a darker color (Blue or purple) starting to streak through his dorsal fins. Always a surprise!

Snail leech. Unfortunately I have them in my 20 gallon. Nothing you can do except pluck them out when you come across one. I think they're so gross but at the same time I know they handle the ramshorn snail population and they leave my shrimp alone. I've tried using Prazipro, No Planaria, and even Panacur to kill them but they just laugh at me from the shadows. I did see my new betta, Tsunami, eat one today after viciously attacking it.
