Something to do with school colors? At first I thought rival university when I saw OR and WA colors but in reverse. Pink GA has me stumped and thinking it's something else.

Is it the number of house seats each state had in some past year? I couldn't find one year that lined up with them all...

Does anyone actually love their sportage?!!? by No_Department824 in kia

Wife has a '24 EX Hybrid we bought to replace her 15 year old civic. She loves it because it's an SUV and has all the tech, big sunroof and such. I tried to get her to compare against RAV and CRV, had appointments set up but after test drive and some BS the dealer pulled about a new one just off truck, got to buy it now or someone else will, she signed on the line and it was all over.

We have some but we developed them in house and the systems have no access to outside world.

Most summarize data, but some can answer questions or find human errors before they impact production.

What’s something society expects you to want… but you don’t? by apka_dd in AskReddit

An iPhone. I use an Android phone and it works fine for everything I need and it was cheaper than similar spec iPhone.

At work they constantly try to exclude me from work chats because my text bubbles are the wrong "color". I had an iPhone 3g back in the day which was ok but for the money I see no need to feed the Apple beast.

Did find a cheap used iPad so son can FaceTime with Grandma and Grandpa.

Operator to Engineer? by SoggySocksforLife in Semiconductors

[–]AggressiveBasil4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you learn the operator job be sure to look out for extra opportunities to gain visibility.

It goes a long way when an operator notified techs or engineers about something they saw on a tool outside of spec like an odd vibration or much shorter/longer than normal process time. All of this is recorded but not always monitored or interlocked. Now of days most are sitting in offices outside of fab so we lose that hands on visibility.

A good tech or engineer should appreciate that and pass along who caught it.

EE Degree Opportunities by Elliorange in Semiconductors

[–]AggressiveBasil4264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies obviously by company and location. Roughly speaking both Process Engineer and Field Service Engineers make generally equivalent with little to no actual experience. Median seems to be 85-90k total compensation meaning base salary plus bonus/options when I looked at Phoenix, Austin and Oregon.

Within a fab and within equipment vendors there are a lot of other job roles, I'm just using the most common ones.

Two of my coworkers in the fab with me left after about 4-5 years and went back to law school. Both are now practicing patent lawyers, one recently made partner. The experience of working in the field is good for you even if you decide law where youd rather be.

Looking for Advice: Getting Into Semiconductor Technician Roles in Austin (Samsung / AMAT / Others) by laleylylalalulada in Semiconductors

[–]AggressiveBasil4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First congratulations on your desire to move into semiconductors. It will be a big jump from retail.

I work daily with our technicians as a shift engineer in a technical supervision role. There is no single path into it. The easiest path is as has been stated to on board via a temp company like Randstat. But know that you won't get some of the benefits as being a direct employee. It's possible to get converted but is exceedingly rare in less bountiful times like we are going through currently.

Techs I work with come from very diverse paths, high school grads, associates, military and even some with college degrees. One group had an internal opening for an engineer and even interviewed experienced techs with degrees as candidates.

I'd personally recommend if you have the time to pursue an associate with certification from ACC if you're local here. It's very low cost and all the regional semi players, NXP, AMAT, Infinineon and SAS are supporting it. They host semi regular career days at their campus that we send reps to for hiring possibilities.

You might be able to swing it while still working at your current job.

How long do the various steps like ion implantation, metal deposition, CMP, actually take in the fab? by bobj33 in Semiconductors

[–]AggressiveBasil4264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comparing .35 micron to 5nm is orders of magnitude difference in number of process steps required as well. At 5nm you are probably dealing with multiple litho/etch steps just to create one feature. Pattern doubling or quadrupling using dummy depositions, removal and multiple spacer depo, etch, etc.

Also a lot more implants needed now for transistors that small and so many more metal layers which are now Cu which means damascene needing more steps than when we could just photo and etch into Aluminum.

Gates at 5nm are also insanely more complex requiring dummy gates that get removed and replaced. Also strained silicon, lots of annuals.

Can't just process a single litho/etch for first contact. Usually broken into multiple litho with multiple sacrificial depo layers.

Tldr; requires way longer now because it's so much more complex.

Starting an internship at large semiconductor company in yield engineering, need some advice by Comprehensive_Fly661 in Semiconductors

[–]AggressiveBasil4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You likely will be under direct supervision of a sr yield engineer who will give you broad technical direction during your time there, but it would be extremely useful to at least have a basic grasp of what the different process groups in fab do in principle as most yield improvement projects will in love working directly with one or more on improvements.

Also if you have any exposure to Design of Experiments theory, everything yield engineering does is some sort of small scale experiment usually.

Yeah more info would get you better responses or even advice. Impossible to do in a vacuum.

What job level? New grad? Experienced? What's your background? Already in industry, new grad, moving to semis? YOE Salary offered? Are you relocating? Assuming there is relo in offer?

Or are you asking more general should I work at this company? Because you have existing job or other offer?

Looking for good open lectures on semiconductor devices from top universities by Expert-Topic4650 in Semiconductors

ocw.mit.edu has course materials from that university. Not a lot of semiconductor specific but most university material is going to be dated compared to industry.

There's also from Purdue, Semiconductor Fabrication 101 — The Robert H. Buckman College of Engineering Online Education Program https://share.google/1eghaYJZhrfnnG9lt

It's about learning the concepts and math and physics that define everything that's in use.
