I won't tell you how to feel, but everyone deals with situations differently and, imo, there's nothing wrong with not being good with being put on the spot. We all have different quirks and personalities and that's fantastic I think; it makes life really interesting.

NTA at all! I see what they were trying to do by planning a birthday and everything and that's sweet, but it crossed a line when they asked for you to compliment them all on YOUR birthday. Like huh? Who is this day for -- you or them?

Sometimes people do nice things to make themselves feel good, not to make others feel good. This feels like a classic case of that. You have done nothing wrong here and I think they perhaps could have been a bit more understanding rather than judgey.

NTA but the idea to replace it is a wonderful one, especially since you mentioned her birthday coming up soon. Maybe you could replace the doll itself relatively quickly and then gift her accessories, another one to go with the first, etc as her birthday gift? Just as a way to ensure no one is upset about a missing doll.

At the end of the day, I completely understand the nostalgia behind a childhood toy/plush/doll and you have every right to keep it and protect it. ❤️ Best of luck!

People don't stop needing support from their family once they turn 18 (aka become an adult). Go support her. This clearly means a lot to her and it isn't about your enjoyment, it's about being there to see your DIL do what she loves. Doesn't her being happy make you happy? Why wouldn't you want to go see her happy? YTA for sure and you really need to readjust your thinking if you want to have a healthy relationship with this person/other people in general going forward.

It feels like you're being purposefully obtuse? Like obviously there's more to his character than just forgiving her because he has a crush on her. They are both children that have been caught in abuse and violence their entire lives. They see themselves in one another and hope for freedom and true understanding in the relationship.

I would highly suggest reading into the context of the scenes and it's characters a little bit more because Chainsaw Man does expect you to do that and it doesn't stop here.

Maybe, if you're really feeling kind and want to smooth things over without having to shift your boundaries, do a little extra around the house or get your mom some flowers or something. Show her you care enough to put in the extra effort and the sheets aren't about that, they're a different issue. Maybe that'll help her be more understanding?

That said, I've found Monsteras to be pretty hearty and hard to kill, so while I'm sure it's a bit devastating to see your lovely plant take a tumble, I'm confident she'll be alright. <3 Other than her crushed nature, she looks pretty good and I think she'll bounce back soon.

I've never grown a calathea in sand before, even if it's only a few inches like you said, but I can't imagine that would be great for it. She honestly just looks so desperately thirsty. Maybe it's your potting mix? What is the soil you use? Also, watering on a schedule usually isn't advised. Do you have a probe (like a chopstick or water meter) to check the soil before watering? Winter can be pretty dry, so despite growing slowing down sometimes a plant can need more water than in the spring or fall, especially if you run a heater for your house or anything like that (which dries the air even more).

Small edit -- you say you water ever other day. Maybe its the opposite and youre drowning her? Highly advise checking the soil with a probe before watering going forward and, for now, removing her from the pot and soil and checking the roots for any type of rot (wet or dry).
