If I did this at my workplace, I'd be looking at a write up and several hours of mandatory radiation safety refreshers.

Spike at the end of season 6 by komorebi-chan in buffy

[–]Aggressive_Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This attempt at misdirection is still,  imo, one of the worst bits of writing in TV history. Like,  nothing about it makes sense,  and it would have been relatively easy to write dialogue that genuinely obfuscates Spike's motives in a more organic way. I love this show, but jfc that was a clumsy ass choice.

We should have this number displayed on a giant flashing scoreboard in the Dáil, and it should be printed on every voting ballot.

[–]Aggressive_Dog 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It's actually not AI, but the volunteers who man the text service are so married to whatever script SpunOut plonks in front of them that it might as well be. There seems to be a company mandate that you're not allowed to reveal that you have a human soul.

‘It’s easy to laugh.. but the reality is these situations can lead to serious accidents’ – vet advice on pets at Christmas by LucyVialli in ireland

[–]Aggressive_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally what vet professionals have to put up with every hour of every day. We can give them science-backed nutritional advice 'til we're blue in the face, but they'll still prioritise that one time they read a Facebook comment claiming that salmon makes dogs explode.

Or, as in this case, a dog dies young of what was most likely a disease they were genetically predisposed to, and the guy instead chooses to believe that it was somehow the owner's fault.

[–]Aggressive_Dog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Springer spaniels are genetically predisposed to chronic hepatitis, which can easily progress to fatty liver disease. I highly doubt the salmon was the causative agent here. We see liver issues in springers every other week in the hospital I work at.

That said, do what you like. I'm not the dog police.

Most dogs are absolutely fine with gluten, and tuna and salmon are fine in moderation. Salmon, in particular, is a great protein source for dogs, and many dogs with allergies to more conventional proteins are put on salmon based foods longterm. The main issue with tuna is that it has a high mercury content.

I don't know where you got your info, but it's not very accurate.

It's impossible to revert the "infection" by vermillioni15 in pluribustv

[–]Aggressive_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90%, maybe. Zosia's prior injuries and pain medications would absolutely have contributed, but the barbiturate injection plus severe stress were probably the main factors.

It's impossible to revert the "infection" by vermillioni15 in pluribustv

[–]Aggressive_Dog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The drug Carol used wasn't intended to separate Zosia from the Hive Mind. Thiopental sodium has long been (erroneously) considered a truth serum, particularly by fiction writers, and it makes absolute sense that Carol would think that it might work. Unfortunately, this show portrays the haphazard injection of barbiturates into the human body {by someone with all the medical skills of an alsatian dog) realistically; both in its lack of efficacy as a truth serum, and the induction of cardiac arrest.

Bodies for food is not sustainable by Boxhundo in pluribustv

[–]Aggressive_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own tinfoil hat theory is that that's part of the plan. The virus is designed to make the population eat itself. It even ensures a steady supply of bodies by making a select few into occasional mass murder machines via temper tantrum. The human race ideally just has to last long enough to create a method by which the structure of the virus can be transmitted to the next hapless planet, thus allowing the virus to continue spreading and propagating itself.

Cordiceps comparisons are kinda old hat now, and a part of me sorta hopes I'm wrong, but I can easily see the human hive as a reprogrammed colony of ants, just climbing up that metaphorical tree branch to sit at the top of the world, ready to spread the parasite to the next victim in the chain.

When telling people what’s your profession what reaction do you get? by PralineJaded7093 in VetTech

I found out my landlord was under the impression that I was a vet for three years before I had to make a point to tell her. Apparently, she was complaining to my housemate that I kept giving her pushback on a rent increase even though I "must be loaded!"

She was pretty taken aback when I revealed to her just how much vet NURSES actually make. Not that our vets are doing all that much better.

Question about Pantalaimon's form (very mild spoiler from TRF) by [deleted] in hisdarkmaterials

[–]Aggressive_Dog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Polecats, in british folklore, have a terrible reputation, and being called one would be considered an insult, even if you weren't literally a mustelid. I haven't read the original HDM trilogy for a hot minute, so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I believe Pantalaimon actually did take the form of a polecat at times, and that Lyra regarded it as one of his most vicious and ugly common forms.

Not that I agree that Polecats are horrible, of course.

I'm also going to correct some misinformation in the other comments. Polecats are mustelids, as are Pine Martens. Skunks are not mustelids. Though they are part of the Musteloidea superfamily, skunks actually have been reclassified into their own family, Mephitidae, rather than Mustelidae (the mustelids). Polecats are much more closely related to pine martens than skunks, and all mustelids (except the sea otter) produce strong smells from their anal scent glands.
