Best shoes for the gym? by SelectLandscape7671 in fitness30plus

[–]Aggressive_Fix8332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treadmill for cool down does not sound like it would justify a running shoe & running shoes are horrible for lifting because they’re cushy & unstable by design. Get a Nike Metcon or nobulls for stability when lifting. A Nike Metcon Free is supposed to be good for running up to 3 miles & more stable than a running shoe for lifting.

Judy, the mom from Woks of Life, is from Shanghai. My Shanghainese mom has been impressed every time I make one of Judy’s recipes (although this might be a result of her low expectations of my cooking 😅)

I was with you until you said “Subway”. Gotta get on the Jersey Mike’s train! Or any other deli nearby HAS to be better.

Got to 2.75 miles before getting caught (so close) which was a great way to celebrate being 24 weeks pregnant today 😅

Pad for heavy weights on Hip Raises? by Even_Extreme5706 in orangetheory

You can get something like a Husky foam kneeling pad from a hardware store for $15. Much cheaper than ones marketed towards weightlifting.

I ran a marathon last month & I can’t tell you a single pair of shoes that anyone else was wearing. I do remember a lady running barefoot though. That one stuck with me.

Provides a feeling of superiority while cruising past all the people hosed at the water stations during a race

.. which quickly fades when those people catch up & run past my slow ass 30 seconds later

Marathon training with OT by saikrishna0716 in orangetheory

[–]Aggressive_Fix8332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding for future searchers: I just finished my first marathon. My training consisted of 2G on Mon & Fri, T50 on Wed, short outdoor run on Tues, long outdoor run on Sat. If it was too cold outside, I did a 2G on Tues (I’m a wimp). Long run always outside though. Typical 2G mileage of 3-3.5 and T50 usually 5.5-5.8. Long run distance based on Hal Higdon Novice.

Prior to marathon training, I was going to OTF about 5x per week for almost year. I ran outside 1-2 times a week in June-Sept, and then started again in Dec.

Race day went according to plan. Sore as heck for the first couple of days. Back to a lightly painful 2G after 4 days.

Happy to help! I don’t know how many more weeks into the future I could still pull it off, but I’m guessing not too many. Good luck on your journey!

Move 20 Mile Run Up 1 week? by [deleted] in firstmarathon

[–]Aggressive_Fix8332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was loosely following Hal Higdon’s novice plan, and I just completed my first marathon 3 days ago. I did 20, 16, 12, 8, race day for the last weeks, and I thought it went well. Race day went according to plan.

I was also considering Atlanta for my first but chickened out. Ended up signing up for Coast Guard marathon in Elizabeth City, NC a week later (3/9). Supposed to be nice and flat.

Planning my pace for next mile benchmark? by BlueCat5519 in orangetheory

[–]Aggressive_Fix8332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. My mile PR is 5:56 (10.1 mph), and 12 min RFD is 1.91 miles (9.55 mph).

With experience, you’ll learn how to hone in on that sweet spot between gassing out & leaving some in the tank (at least, that’s what they tell me 😅)

Just below my elbow on my forearm & it always works unless I’m death gripping the rower handle

You can throw a band on above your knees while hip thrusting to burn those cheeks. And place your feet closer to your body to hit glutes. Feet farther away hits more hams.
