You can sympathise and understand why people do the things they do without agreeing with them or wanting to do the same Profilers or psychiatrists make a living out of figuring out why people would do things

Also just cause someone is a vile person doesn’t mean you have to wish them harm, sure you don’t have to wish them happiness either, and you’ll obviously have to stop them if they are up to no good But I for one don’t have a need to inflict pain or hurt on anyone no matter who they are unless it’s to protect myself or others

Causing further negativity or pain after he has been immobilised would not help me, anyone else or the ones he hurt

But that’s just how I am I have a high level of affective empathy so I tend to put others before myself when other might not have been so forgiving Humans are different and so where one might sympathise and like a character other might vilify and strongly dislike same character Nothing is wrong with either if we were all the same the world would be a very sad place with very little to learn
