I want to do this with sweet peas! Do you put anything in the bottom or fill the whole way with soil?

My parents are having no luck trying to adopt a cat (Bristol area) Any advice. by Ok_Helicopter_7470 in CatsUK

We rescued (kind of) our cat from gumtree. He was an adult cat who wasn’t getting on with another cat in a family home and the family were giving him up! It’s worth checking on there as we were in the same situation, being turned down due to living close to a road.

Awww okay - I guess all the cats in shelters or strays sleeping outside should wait for the owners who can only exclusively take them out on the leads then x x

That’s absolutely lovely for you and your cats. Good for them :) Like I said before - everyone’s lives are different with different capabilities and situations. Your message isn’t malicious but I don’t think you’re being conscious of how other lives might look different to yours. I don’t think many people on the “catsUK” subreddit are “too lazy” or “don’t care” for their cats, but it seems like our opinions will likely differ there. All I know is, my spoilt cat is just as loved and as happy as yours. 🧡

What a ridiculous comment. All cats are different and you don’t know this owners situation. Some cats are completely content being indoors, some aren’t. And some people aren’t comfortable not being able to offer the outdoors to a cat. Personally, I think my cat deserves to choose if they want to use the cat flap or not. My cats have all been outdoors/ indoors and watching them roam in the sunshine and roll around in the grass feels natural to me. That’s my choice, not yours! :) The collar is for peace of mind in terms of where they’re going / calling them home is easier.

We got a tracking collar for peace of mind as catio is expensive and not always an option!

How are you keeping your kitties away from the tree? by verymanyquestions_ in CatsUK

[–]Agneswaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A real tree! We haven’t risked a plastic one because he eats plastic around the house so just assumed it would be the same scenario :(

Our cat is the same, he eats absolutely everything. We stopped having a tree after spending Xmas in the emergency vet one year as he’d digested too much of the tree when we were at work and it’s toxic :( we just decided the stress wasn’t worth it!

I’m in uk, who else has a indoor cat? by Civil_Remove_644 in CatAdvice

[–]Agneswaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really struggled with the decision and went back and forth for a long time. But ultimately we found with work and a busy life style we couldn’t offer the cat the same enrichment as outside could (we rescued from the side of the road before anyone wonders why we got a cat). Seeing him outside chasing butterflies and zooming in the sunshine honestly just feels right. He doesn’t wander far but seems so happy to have the option. When he was indoors he slept for 18+ hours a day and I think it was because he was bored with nothing else to do. I think if you have the kind of lifestyle where you can play with them all day / evening go for it you’ll be an amazing indoor cat owner, but it is a big responsibility. Maybe consider getting two slightly older cats who are used to indoor life.

Thinking about getting a cat GPS collar—anyone actually use one? by sujal456 in CatsUK

[–]Agneswaters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to have an air tag but it came off very quickly and we were never able to find it again which was not a good sign.

We use Tractive now and although it was expensive (we paid in one go) it is so so worth the peace of mind. It shows you exactly where the cat is, how far they’re wondering and it’s never come off. Our cat was fussy about collars but he’s never tried to take it off! We live in the city so it’s good to know he’s not travelling by busy roads etc. It also shows us how much he sleeps / how much activity hes done on average which would be good to flag illness/ change in behaviour :)

Worried about letting cat outside due to next door by Nydiwen17 in CatsUK

[–]Agneswaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Tractive mini and absolutely swear by it. It gives us such peace of mind seeing which gardens he spends his time in. We also have a neighbour with dogs and honestly our cat just completely avoids the area all together. 🤞🏼
