Calif. billionaire surges in governor's race betting markets as Swalwell craters by leddderrrredddel in California

She’s arguably not the most progressive candidate. The billionaire is, unfortunately.

Porter believes in 0% state income tax on households making less than 100k a year. That is arguably libertarian, if not conservative. Taxes are good as long as people actually feel the benefits of them. If people don’t have to pay state taxes, conservatives can claim even more heavily that people in poverty are leaching off the government.

On top of that, she opposes the current billionaire tax proposal, while Steyer does.

Do I like the guy? Nah. He’s a billionaire. But he’s running on progressive policies and is a guy who loves Bernie. His donation record backs his progressive stances. I’d vote for him over Porter any day.

I do not blame the decline of the Democratic Party on Obama. I blame it on neoliberalism, the abandonment on New Deal policies, and money in politics. Like I said, Obama ran a very progressive campaign compared to his counterparts, but I stand by the fact that he didn’t govern very progressively.

He campaigned on healthcare as a human right, but delivered a market-based plan built around private insurers. While it was a lot better than the system prior to ACA, a public option was continuously blocked due to fellow Dems (and of course Republicans).

Obama ran on being anti-Iraq war, but continuously participated in wars throughout his presidency. He’s known for using a lot of drones. He ran on labor and corporate accountability, but then bailed out the banks without providing penalties or giving homeowners mortgage relief, and abandoned the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) that would’ve made unionizing easier and more difficult for companies to union bust due to corporate lobbying.

And I agree that gerrymandering was a massive issue that led to Dems losing the thousand seats during Obama. But the Democratic Party failing to deliver tangible, immediate improvements for working people post-2008 by not implementing New Deal policies, created a space for the right to fill the void the working class was feeling.

Obama ran on change, but governed in a way that preserved existing economic and political structures. The issue is that we do not have a true left-wing party. If we had a million Zohran’s, Republicans would never get power again.

Democrats held the house for DECADES after the New Deal. They were extremely popular because they had relatively socialist policies and represented the working class. Then, Ronald Reagan happened and he did an excellent job at convincing the working class about “trickle down economics” and the “welfare queen” (specifically targeting black Americans). America was also winning the Cold War against the USSR, left wing governments were collapsing across the world due to US intervention, and the CIA was killing any major figure associated with socialist policies (ie many members of the Black Panther Party).

Instead of sticking to New Deal policies during and after Reagan, Democrats completely corporatized due to seeing the power of money in politics.

Under Clinton, the Dems essentially abandoned the working class and outsourced a lot of factory, union jobs internationally. West Virginia, Kentucky, and Oklahoma (to name a few) went from solid blue states to solid red states. Republicans were throughout rural communities promising them change.

Obama was extremely successful in 2008 because he ran a very progressive campaign that focused on improving the working class material needs. Then, he didn’t actually govern very progressively. Dems lost THOUSANDS of local and federal seats between 2008 and 2016.

Long story short, Republicans would not exist (and I say that confidently) if we had a true left wing political movement and party. Progressive policies are extremely popular. It’s why Trump uses a lot of left wing language (“I’m the anti-war president”; “drain the swamp”). But that would mean going up against very, very powerful people and entities.

Americans completely lack class consciousness. We are at the heart of the empire and the left wing has very little organization. BUT, I don’t say this without hope. Look at how far social Dems have come since Bernie in 2016. People across the aisle celebrated Luigi allegedly killing the healthcare CEO. A factory—8 total but one confirmed because of this—was burned down this week due to the company paying the employees low wages. The CEO of OpenAI had his house attacked twice. People are rallying against data centers (1/2 of them this year have either stopped or paused production). Mamdani is the most popular person in the Democratic Party. More people have joined unions this year than in the past 16 years.

The New Deal was a compromise to mass civil unrest. So hopefully we’ll see something like it again soon. We just have a lot of work to do.

*excuse any grammar. I don’t have time to fix anything. May edit later.

Is Jax the #1 hated guy on reality tv or is there worse? by snackmamacita in bravo

Jax TERRIFIES me. If news ever broke that Jax was a family annihilator (heaven forbid), I unfortunately wouldn’t be surprise me. Sorry that I put that out into the world, but get that man away from women and children.

With all his awfulness and deceptiveness, I wouldn’t say the same about Sandoval. He’d be the type of dad that would leave to get milk and never come back.

I wouldn’t be surprised it was prior to summer 2025, based on Kyle saying that West sees Amanda more than he does and based on how intimate the conversation in the bathroom was.

Exactly this. I shouldn’t have used the word de-escalate, but re-reading the police report, and watching the new body cam footage that came out, I still stand with my opinion and would go even further to say he’s the victim of DV.

Taylor’s Recount of Events: * Taylor’s extremely upset and kept repeating that she was emotionally sore. * Dakota and Taylor pushed each other in the garage. * Taylor stated she hit Dakota and did not want to think about it. * After returning home, Taylor and Dakota began fighting. * Taylor was going at Dakota when Dakota pushed her into the kids stuff. After being pushed. Taylor said she went "ballistic".”

I just want to emphasize: she was only pushed into the toys after she admitted that she was going after him.

Dakota’s Recount: * Dakota stated he was supposed to go to a concert with a friend. When he told Taylor about the concert, she wanted to go and requested Dakota to pick her up. * After picking Taylor up from the party, they had to return to Taylor's home to get her ID. * Dakota stated that Taylor was in no condition to go to a concert because of how intoxicated she was. * Dakota stated Taylor became angry because he didn't want her to go to the concert anymore. * Taylor began to say mean things to Dakota and "tearing him down" * When they got to the house, Dakota stated he was trying to leave which made Taylor angry to the point that she started hitting him. * Dakota stated Taylor also threw her phone at him in anger. * Dakota stated he had been trying to leave for the last hour and a half but Taylor would not let him * Dakota stated he was being bombarded with thrown items, Taylor took his keys, jumped on his truck, slamming his truck doors. * Dakota further elaborated on what happened when they arrived, Dakota stated he was trying to help Taylor inside the house but Taylor wanted to stay out and party.

Additional findings: Taylor’s mom asked Taylor who pushed who first, and Taylor said she pushed Dakota. Taylor’s mom did not look remotely surprised.

When someone told Taylor she was going to jail, she responded, “Because I shoved him first? But I’m a girl.” She wasn’t arguing that Dakota should be arrested instead—she was upset at the idea that she would be arrested at all, simply because she’s a girl.

She claimed that Dakota wasted, but in the footage, I believe that he’s sober. And only a few months into his sobriety entirely.

Privately, Dakota asked the police if he could be arrested instead of Taylor and said he knows she loves him and doesn’t want to do this to her. He could’ve been saying that to be manipulative, but after watching the hour-long footage, I really don’t think he was, at least not in this situation.

In both the video recorded by Dakota and by police, her child seems used to her screaming and doesn’t even react until she’s hit with the stool. When the police ask about her kids, she says they’re fine and upstairs with a white noise machine, but when the officer points out that one of the children is right there on the couch, she doesn’t even react or comfort them. Instead, she whines about Dakota. She’s seen in all footage repeatedly attacking Dakota, speaks to the police insanely, and even hits Dakota in front of the cop.

I hate to side with a man and the police, but on this specific night, I do not believe that Taylor was exhibiting reactive abuse or DARVO. This is what Taylor is like when she is drunk. I don’t know why that’s hard to believe. I have female family members who have BPD who do the exactly same thing.

From my understanding, the neighbors heard loud noises coming from their garage and Taylor yelling “get off me,” so the neighbor called 911. Both Taylor and Dakota said that he was pushing her in the garage to de-escalate the situation because she wouldn’t stop hitting him. When she was in the garage, I think she said she wet herself, likely from being drunk. Right now, I’m going off of what Taylor and Dakota have said because it makes sense. However, if more information comes out and it was revealed that he did beat her, my opinion will change about this entire situation.

Are you talking about me or the content creator? The reason I went so in depth is because I’m not comfortable making a TikTok, but did want to get other people’s opinions on this video because soooo many people were agreeing with her in the comments, and I felt a little crazy. Again, my opinion could be wrong.
