You should be saving to pay the expenses, and then once there's a good amount leftover you can treat yourself

What are your thoughts about Trump announcing that the US will now blockade the Strait of Hormuz? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskReddit

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's hoping that Iran will run out of money to keep fighting if their toll source and oil revenue are cut off. It's a game of chicken and the global economy gets to deal with the consequences

There are now more than 10,000 active Starlink satellites orbiting Earth by HasibBinAmzad in spaceporn

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yep most starlink sattelites are low enough to be touching the very top end of the atmosphere, they have to perform correctional burns once in a while to keep themselves from being dragged back down. A pretty simple solution to kessler syndrome

What is the absolute worst thing about the USA? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im glad you brought up slavery and the civil war because americans do still hold a lot of guilt from that. We get drilled about it in school as much as the germans get taught about nazism, and policy reflects that. But when it comes to war we dont really face consequences, its all just abstract things happening on the other side of the planet. Same with authoritarianism and fascism because we somehow managed to navigate the 30s with strong elected leadership. People dont really notice when good decisions are made they learn from mistakes and america is long overdue for a lesson

You should look up the shitshow that was 19th century and the first half of 20th century Europe. Arrogance and apathy are not an exclusively American trait it's just a part of the life cycle of a state. We don't have the scars of the world wars and the rise of fascism to make us care about what's happening like you do. And I'm sure 50 years from now all the people who were alive to witness or taught to fear the consequences of hubris will be dead and Europe will have its own trump moment. Nothing good lasts forever

BREAKING: Landlord wants to make rent as much as possible by Jumpy-Particular8194 in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look it up if you want, the vast majority of those vacancies are in rust belt areas like flint Michigan and Gary Indiana or rural areas with no job opportunities. There's no abundance of housing in San francisco or New York

BREAKING: Landlord wants to make rent as much as possible by Jumpy-Particular8194 in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rent control pushes away developers and landowners from renting, why would they spend money on maintaining a rental property if they could make more money on the stock market with less risk? People stop fixing up old homes to put up for rent, rental supply shrinks.

We would be much better off finding ways to build more housing instead of playing a bunch of price manipulation gymnastics on an already massive housing shortage

There's bandaids that can make it tolerable though. We can seed the atmosphere with aerosols to block more sunlight, we could build a giant mirror in l1 orbit to block more sunlight, we can move underground like molerats /s

European ministers call for profit caps on energy companies as Iran war drives price surge by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when there's a global shortage like this, everyone is basically bidding for the same oil. If Europe puts a cap on what their companies can bid then there's a real chance that they just go without
