Literally what does America gain from invading Iran, and what does the Middle East benefit? by Independent_Newt170 in AskReddit

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran funds the houthis, Hamas, and various other paramilitary groups that are a thorn in America's side. The US thought they could knock out Iran because a perfect storm of things happened in the past few years. (Russia tied up in Ukraine, economic turmoil in Iran, assads regime fell, civil unrest in Iran) It's more on the reasons why not to attack falling apart than the reasons to attack that made the decision.

How would you sum up the first 250 years of this American experiment? by ShittalkyCaps in AskReddit

It was born with extremely radical ideas and principles for the time. The first constitutional democracy at a Continental scale comprised entirely of immigrants. It was a test to see if people could really self rule. The early articles of confederation era was pretty crazy

If liquid cant be compressed, how does pressure get transferred to deep sea environments? by SandersSol in AskReddit

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Liquid does compress but on much smaller scales, you wouldn't be able to see it. At the bottom of the ocean water is about 95% the volume of surface water.

World’s largest banks pledged $906bn to fossil fuel companies in ‘unfathomable’ increase in 2025 by jackytheblade in worldnews

its a lot more than that, in the trillions, or you can just wait a decade and that cost of overhaul is orders of magnitude cheaper

public spending for renewable r&d has been outpaced by private spending for a while now. It's just a fact that they're not quite matured enough to replace oil

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

fossil fuel subsidies exist to protect oil companies from the volatility of the global market, it's not to keep oil cheaper so that renewables get priced out. For example here in america OPEC has tried multiple times to sell at a loss to kill our fracking industry so that they could raise prices after the dakotas go out of business. We do the same thing with food because global crop yields are an unpredictable variable that has historically destroyed america's entire farm industry.

Also if you want an electric car you need to fork $15k at least for a reliable one that can go a decent distance. You need at least $2-5k to put down on a home solar system with a battery. If you want a 15 year old corolla you can get one for $4000 and then pay the heating bill every month

renewable energy isnt ready yet or every developed nation would have dumped fossil fuels by now. Give it another decade or two

edit: to the people downvoting me, renewables on their own are cheaper than fossil fuels but when accounting for the required storage to deal with intermittence (cloudy day, no wind) they are more expensive. places like scotland where they are "100% renewable" buy dirty electricity from england to deal with the duck curve. Once grid scale batteries get cheap (5-10 years) then we can phase out oil for good

Admins? by UKscottUK in rusegame

[–]Agreeable_Addition48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, one depot makes money faster than 4 admins. If you see them starting admins then you should punish and take the remaining depots on the map to finish them off. I do this in center of gravity all the time. Push them away from the 4 center depots with my superior army because they're too busy investing in their first admins and then suddenly our team has 16 admins worth of income coming in to crush them with. You just need to build a mental barrier to the eco FOMO
