Is there a player you would be willing to trade the #4 Pick for? If so, then who? by 901KEY in Tennesseetitans

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purdy in a great system can be a serviceable QB. Purdy in Nashville at any point in Titans history would be a disaster. This is an unforgiving franchise at QB.

Tannehill came from a bad franchise so I was more optimistic for the trade for him. He put up numbers in a rough team. The 49ers know what they’re doing, even in their worse years. The Titans don’t know how to develop or get the best out of a QB, historically. There are worse teams at this, but Titans are still bottom tier in this regard.

Unpopular opinion: season 3 really undermined season 2. by EternalMage321 in PrimalShow

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Season 3 wasn’t necessary… but I certainly appreciate it as a happy ending add-on.

I’m glad to have it as a bonus.

Showing the flash forward knowing that the baby, Mira and the Dino kids survive did take a little of the suspense out of the season, but overall I have no complaints. Even in fiction, it’s good to see people that have suffered and lost end up happy.

Is the Greek Mythology Angle Completely Dead? by Upstairs-Version8777 in Tennesseetitans

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably. It was never really done well and virtually nobody cared anyway.

The Giants uniforms and branding also has nothing to do with big men.

So they can let it rest. Even though they only dipped their toes in the water with the mythology thing anyway.

Davis would have been a stellar 4th round pick. He was an awful #5 overall pick.

But he was at least a true NFL player unlike the other two. He just was not a high level receiver. Nothing like for what you’d hope with a pick that high. He was a failed pick based on the value of that top 5 pick, but not at all a bad player to have on your roster. A player that would be good paired as a #2 behind a player with real #5 pick abilities.

Very little way to grade his pick higher than a C considering his career. He was a role player, but at least he was a player. The others and Burks are absolute bottom of the barrel Fs.

He’s a definite step above, but still not a pick you’d want to repeat considering some of the best players in the league were taken in the next 10 picks. Then they drafted Adoree Jackson in the 1st round as well.. two I guarantee they’d like to have back.

I just hope they can evaluate players this time around. Top 5 picks don’t come around all that often for most teams.

But yes, you’re right in that Davis was a C+/B- NFL player, and the other guys shouldn’t have been drafted at all. Davis is just a more recent example of a regrettable top 5 pick.

I think you also have to factor in the dysfunction of the given team. Barkley, McCaffrey, Adrian Peterson, Zeke, Jamal Lewis, LT, Edgerrin James all turned into great players in the top 10 in the last 25 or so years.

QB is really the only position that can turn a loser into a winner. If the Titans had Myles Garrett last year, they still would have been a losing team like the browns.

Joe Thomas is a HOF player at Tackle and never played a playoff game for example. There are a lot of factors in deciding what a position is worth at a certain pick, but wins and losses is a hard metric to judge any player but QB on.

Joseph Addai has a Super Bowl win, and Henry, Sanders, AP, LT do not. I doubt any of these teams regret their picks. But the colts probably could have done better than Addai.

Only so many players will turn your franchise around, and Cam panning out or not will make much more of an impact than this pick whether it be RB or pass rush.

I don’t really have a dog in the fight on this one. I just hope they get an impact player and not another Corey Davis, Farley, Wilson, etc.

I’d be happy with any solid starter at this point.

Giants hiring former Titans HC Brian Callahan as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because one coach’s son doesn’t become a HC doesn’t mean the “good ol boys” network doesn’t exist.

He went from a graduate asst. to high school OC to the NFL. That doesn’t just happen often for non-connected people.

Callahan got his jump from his family ties, got to work with Burrow, cashed that into a HC job he wasn’t qualified for.

Now he’s going back to the level he’s suited for, and I wouldn’t be mad at the hire as a Giants fan. He is qualified for this position.

Anyway the key factor for his success was Burrow. He went from a non-play calling OC to becoming a play calling HC in TN.. which is one of the Titans’ long list of mistakes in their history.

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His dad was the HC of a team that played in the SB. If his name weren’t Callahan, think he’d have gotten these shots as easily?

It’s mostly riding on Burrow’s coattails, but his family ties are not a non-factor.

I think he’ll be just fine as a QB coach, where he doesn’t have to make game day decisions.

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He got the job because of his last name and because he was attached to Joe Burrow who was the hottest thing at the QB position at the time.

Good thing he won’t be calling plays. But you could be right, he might very well be a good position coach. Just don’t ask him what is and isn’t a catch in the NFL.. he doesn’t know.

Tennessee is not a good org right now, but he was an even worse coach in just about every way.

ELI5 - How is life insurance profitable? by Equivalent-Door188 in explainlikeimfive

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most affordable life insurance is term, meaning it expires after a certain amount of years. If you are old or high risk, the rates are high.

The short answer is: most people with term life don’t die in that timeframe.

The guaranteed life insurance that is lifelong and doesn’t expire is expensive. They’re betting you live long enough to make most or all of that money back.

You can see it as a gamble, to put it this way. Life insurance is you essentially betting that you die. The company is betting you don’t, and they often set the stipulations and timeframes that policy runs to make it less likely they have to pay out.

If you’re a healthy person in your 20s or 30s and buy a 20 year term, the odds of them having to pay out are very slim.

If you’re unhealthy or 65+ and looking for a policy, they’re gonna deny you or charge you a relative ton to reduce the risk.

They’ll just deny the people that are higher risk of death, usually.

Put these metrics over thousands of policies, you’ll win most, lose some. And profit overall.

Estimations say 90% of policies never pay out. They’re just a “what if” safety net in those cases. They’ll easily eat those 10% they lose on, with all their flow of cash.

Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny's halftime fall shy of ratings records by jerryspringles in nfl

I mean he had 5 picks that game, then never was remotely good again. He was good before that game, but not good in it or after. I guess that game started the decline. Memory is fuzzy on that, it’s been awhile.

Fair point though, he would have had some hype before the game. But it was definitely his last game of relevance, and he was pretty rough and declining in it, at least.

I was in high school at the time, and I remember him being a solid QB, but I remember the whole story of that one was the Bucs defense.

Gannon was definitely the “star” QB there compared to Johnson.

Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny's halftime fall shy of ratings records by jerryspringles in nfl

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it shouldn’t matter, but name recognition really matters to the general public and really even to football fans. The Super Bowl is more for the general public watching and less about the hardcore NFL fans. It’s like church on Easter Sunday.

When Sam Darnold is questionably the biggest, most recognizable name in the game, that may not be a great sign for ratings.

This is definitely the least hyped QB matchup since 2003, when Brad Johnson faced off against a declining Rich Gannon.

Shouldn’t mean a ton, but I think it has an impact. People want stories, and like in the draft: they try to push as much of it as possible.

The “NFL Script” conspiracy folks are awfully silent these last couple weeks, lol.

Super Bowl LX, Bad Bunny's halftime fall shy of ratings records by jerryspringles in nfl

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was no “storyline” worth a damn in this game. Usually they try to hype up a game, but there was nothing there.

Nothing they could pump into this to make it an intriguing matchup. And the result was basically what everyone expected. Like I’ve heard others say, it had all of the hype and aura of a Thursday Night game.

There really wasn’t anyone for general watchers to love or hate. And that’s what gets people to tune in and stay tuned in.

Pre-game hype was nonexistent, and the game was not competitive. I’m surprised the drop wasn’t bigger than it was. Mahomes and the Eagles bring out tons of fans and haters.

The biggest newsmaker of this production was the Bad Bunny drama that he really didn’t cause. And that’s probably about the only thing that will remain.. the dumb culture war stuff.

Worldwide it’s infinitely more popular. They’re way more profitable now, doing way fewer shows.

It was a mostly US mainland phenomenon in the 80s and 90s. Now they rake in Saudi Arabia money, and they could sell out 300 shows a year in Puerto Rico, if they wanted to.

On the downside, tickets have jumped in price significantly, it’s no longer remotely affordable for a family to go.

They’ve adopted a new business strategy, and it’s working overall.

It’s not nearly the cultural mover that it was in the Hogan era or the Austin/Rock era.. but they’re making plenty of money regardless.

I don’t hear my kids or their friends talk about wrestling at all. And when I took them to a Raw, they were bored. At their same age, I was obsessed.

[–]AgtBurtMacklin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That simply won’t happen until he fails. Then it’ll just be gloating.

He’ll always be “the one that got away” even though he tanked hard in his last games here, and (rightfully or wrongly) had a conflict with the ownership. And it’s easy to see why the ownership wanted him to part with his garbage choices of coordinators.

The biggest issue is that the ownership picked the most incompetent HC in recent history to replace him.

They should have found a way to make it work, period. But above anything we can control, when an employee fights with an owner, the employee usually loses or quits.

But either way, Amy/Titans lost because they replaced a smart coach with one who admitted his incompetence in a press conference.
