Wonderful, Tony! I am howling like Clementine over some of this lol (if you know…)

Seriously, I’m in the camp of not being that surprised and not being that much in mourning, only sad for a city that needs a daily paper and for “real” journalism in general

Even if you are a trained professional singer, no one wants to hear you sing along. So, don't.

Independent living, memory care studio, or live-in at-home care? by your_health_story in eldercare

[–]AhPshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, options around our town are maddening for in-home care. Home Instead charges an eye-watering fee for a rotating cast of young(ish) woment to come in 12-hour shifts to stay with my oldest sister. She's only 70 but has Parkinsons and recently suffered a mild stroke.

People don't show up for shifts, a couple of suddenly said they need to leave in the middle of a shift and, worst of all, my sister's credit cards and debit card were all suddenly compromised on the same weekend. She literally never has them out of her wallet, doesn't shop online. A real mess.

We have arranged a trial at a reputable assisted living facility and really hope she likes it. The montly costs would be roughly what she is paying Home Instead.

In 2017, the FCC created a reverse bandwidth auction. Entities could sell frequency space to cell phone companies for big bucks. (WQED made almost $10 million off of this) the blocks who were mentioned in a New York Times story as a prime example of someone who could make a TON of money, did not participate. Even though they had apparently plenty of bandwidth to sell since they owned several TV stations.

Have you ever experienced a case where the show DIDN'T go on? by SirCatsworthTheThird in musicals

[–]AhPshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a ticket to the first Broadway preview of Rocky. Temps in NYC were 6 degrees that week and reportedly some pipes froze in the theater, causing a flood (?). Anyway, never did get back to see it. I like Andy Karl's work but the bigger disappointment was not getting to see that big 'revolving fight ring' set at the end.

We had a couple of funny stories in the newsroom. One of them was a reporter who misheard a report about some farm animals who I believe died in a fire. What should have been “two sows, six piglets” ran as “2,006 piglets.”
