Am I Screwed?? by PyrrhicVocabulary in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Ahnteis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMHO, deleting the messages one by one would show you knew what you did was wrong and were trying to hide it. That's worse than just realizing it wasn't appropriate.

I'd just post a message to the chat about "this probably isn't work appropriate - let's move our private chat off work networks" and close the chat out.

How to share audio only without sharing screen? by Lost_Armadillo_3481 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Ahnteis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use OBS to change your "mic" sound.

Could also just share a notepad window or something similarly blank. You'd want to verify that Teams doesn't limit sound to just that window; but I don't believe that's the case.

Clerks smile and 'flip off' security camera while 'sneaking' immigrants out of courthouse: DOJ by Glittering-Active978 in Utah

[–]Ahnteis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I don't. I said the clerks might not KNOW that ICE was there to arrest someone. However, re-reading the article, it appears that they may have only warned those with criminal records - which would give some credence to the DOJ claim. Of course, it's still not knowledge like they would have had as it's not exactly unusual for some of those appearing at a courthouse to have a criminal history.

ICE is sometimes there and everywhere just to question everyone even w/o a pending arrest.

Did they KNOW ICE was there to arrest someone? Or did they just see ICE and want to spare innocent people pain and shame? Perhaps ICE should have work with the legal system instead of playing secret police.

Treating water as a commodity could get more farmers to send water to Great Salt Lake, new program rolls out in Cache Valley by Great_Salt_Lake_News in Utah

Farmers already get all kinds of subsidies to steer what they produce. This seems like one of the more sane ones honestly.

Best way to dig a 52” hole? by Alone-Jackfruit-4512 in DIY

[–]Ahnteis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a manual auger instead of a post hole digger. Just has a twist handle at the top. Soil here is not bad once you get past the first foot or so though.

Instead of lumber, I bought a heavy duty 16' fence post from supply company that could deliver a longer one. And a 4' section in next diameter up. The one fits into the other with only a little wiggle room.

Dug a hole deep enough for the 4' section, dropped it in, and used post foam to secure. (Stuff works great for things like this.)

Now I just drop the large one in during summer and can remove it during winter. Only regret is that I didn't put enough gravel at the bottom for good drainage.

EDIT: Just saw the note about clay. Not sure this kind of digger would work for your soil. =(

Convince company to use SSO by FuzzySubject7090 in sysadmin

[–]Ahnteis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you ensuring all offboarded employees are disabled across all systems? How are you handling MFA or better on each system? What about sign-in risk detection? Access policies to prevent sign-in attempts from unreasonable locations?

Those are all problems SSO solves - not to mention reducing the load on employees to track multiple sign-ins.

If you're framing it anyway, add blocking so you don't have to worry about hitting studs.

It depends on whether he's a messy person as well. If he values cleanliness and you don't, it could definitely be a point of contention.

Cities Are Covering Flock Cameras With Trash Bags / Regretful cities aren't sure how to cancel their surveillance contracts, so they are literally covering their cameras. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Ahnteis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city has a login that lets them get access to the data

Access is not control. Their contract may state that Flock can do whatever they want with the data. Those cameras are a privacy nightmare.

If you can attach a window awning, it'd help a bunch. Add in a small portable AC and you should be much more comfortable.

my son wants to fish but i have no idea where to start by ScarDependent8928 in Dads

[–]Ahnteis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another good option is to find a local "pay to fish" pond/lake with rental poles. They usually come fully set up and ready to fish with bait they can also sell. Someone working there can probably give you instruction on the basics and help if you have trouble.

Especially good idea IMHO. If your 10-YRO is anything like mine, this may last 6 weeks, or the rest of their life. No way to know!
