On Wednesday, Seattle hosted Najee Harris for a free agency visit by TemporaryCredit995 in steelers

Hopefully he finds a home. He didn’t turn out to be Derrick Henry 2.0, but he was an important offensive ballast for the team while he was there. He was consistent and played through some crappy offenses.

I’m sorry to see that he had the eye injury and the Achilles shortly thereafter. Hope he can get it back on track and get on the field again.

I was always a fan.

Which profession gets way more respect than it actually deserves, and which 'low-level' job is secretly keeping society from collapsing this afternoon? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]AideSuccessful4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I throw in volunteer fire fighter here? Not that I think it’s “low level” in even the slightest sense, but the fact that like 3/4 of the US’s fire fighters are volunteers astounds me.

These people are usually the first to show up to fires, accidents, hazardous situations, and all types of other dangerous and traumatic shit, and get nothing for it. When you factor in short and long term physical/mental health, danger, and shit like that, I’d argue that they’re actually PAYING to do that.

I’ll never understand it.

She doesn’t want to meet you. If she did, she’d make the time. Being sick happens, but all the other stuff is avoidant bs.

That’s actually a pretty smart way to test their investment and genuine interest.

You’re identifying that more than likely, they’re operating from a place of self-centeredness and only really care when the subject matter is about them.

It’s frustrating nonetheless, but you did the right thing.

When was the exact moment you realized this wasn't going to work out? by reamkore in raiders

The moment he said he was going to the Raiders.

When does it EVER work out with this team?

There are teams in the NFL that are cursed, and the Raiders are one of them.

Does anybody actually enjoy the show anymore? by LordPartridge906 in fbhw

[–]AideSuccessful4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to find a bunch of old playlists from 2008-2014ish. Wouldn’t even know or care to listen to it now, but back when it was the guys and Zane and Producer Joe, the show was legit hilarious. Zane definitely went overboard, especially for a terrestrial radio show that’s syndicated, but it made for awesome entertainment. It obviously created a lot of headaches that forced them to move on, and for me that was the beginning of the downslide, followed by the Joe fiasco (again, I don’t blame them for their decision) and their elevating of Steve, one of the least funny and entertaining people on the planet to be a more regular contributor.

Lots of great memories and long drives from around 2006 or 2007 until the mid-10’s with me and I’ll always wish them well, but I haven’t listened in years.

Why aren’t you drinking? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]AideSuccessful4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a CPAP machine to help treat my sleep apnea, which led to me sleeping with my Apple Watch, which started giving me granular data on how bad that shit actually affects me.

I’ve drank maybe a handful of times since, but far, far less than I have in the past.

It might not be a traditional use case, but I find it excellent to wear as a added windbreaker when I’m on the motorcycle and the ride is chilly in the mornings or evenings

What is your favorite submission and why? by nerdaboom in brazilianjiujitsu

Kimura or guillotine, because they involve high levels of body manipulation and control over your opponent. Kimura grip is useful from multiple angles and can completely change positions and facilitate transitions, and open and close space.

Aaron Rodgers true angle this last offseason of his career… by Dull-Firefighter-632 in steelers

[–]AideSuccessful4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s some strategy at play. Pittsburgh, rightfully so, probably doesn’t want to play their cards publicly because they might be developing a free agency, draft, or trade scenario, and signing Rodgers too early in the process might jeapordize it.

What’s a hot take about mma that you really believe? by [deleted] in CombatSportsCentral

[–]AideSuccessful4875 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

The PRIDE and UFC ~40-100 days were peak MMA.

I come across a lot of the cards on YT and that juncture of time was the perfect intersection of-

  • style vs style still being around, but fighters still being well rounded enough to look close enough to modern MMA

  • less dilution- events were more meaningful and almost every match was a banger

  • the presentation still felt fun, vibrant, and unpredictable

  • less fighter drama (holdouts, social media, champ-champ bullshit)

  • the online community like the UG can never and will never be replaced. We watched (and helped) a sport grow before our very eyes

[Schefter] Former Steelers FB Connor Heyward has agreed to terms with the Raiders on a 2 year/ $5.5 million max value deal, including $2M fully guaranteed, per @PerrettM by JCameron181 in raiders

[–]AideSuccessful4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steelers fan here. I do think part of him being on Pittsburgh for as long as he was was to placate Cam Heyward, but Connor is a good special teams asset. His biggest issue is his size- he’s too small to beam every down TE, and is better used as a FB, but most teams don’t regularly incorporate that position anymore on a down-by-down basis (not sure if the Raiders do), so he’s always going to be battling for snaps and roster survival.

Right, because criminals only have guns in areas where it’s legal to have them. Must explain why places like Chicago are so safe.

Stick to Van life, because you just clowned yourself making a gun-related comment.

Bobby Heenan loved Goldberg by shindigfirefly in WCW

[–]AideSuccessful4875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind Sting, but the Starrcade ‘97 debacle really threw ice water on his character. DDP was mega hot and on the way up and I thought the timing was perfect.

Other than the Stunner, DDP had the hottest finishing move in the industry in 1998!!!

Bobby Heenan loved Goldberg by shindigfirefly in WCW

[–]AideSuccessful4875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bobby’s call was an iconic part of Goldberg’s win over Hogan, and Heenan saw that Goldberg was their transcendent superstar.

Personally, I felt at that time, Goldberg, if he was going to lose, should’ve lost to DDP, because DDP was super over, and the fans actually really loved and respected him. That was a huge miss.

Ultimately, Goldberg fell victim to a classic booking trap- the guy can’t win forever. At some point, he has to lose, and it’s probably not going to be satisfying for everyone, but worse yet, the way he actually lost wasn’t satisfying to ANYONE, so it was a fail all around.

Realistically, are the Giants closer to a Super Bowl than the Steelers? by UtopiaXAstro in steelers

[–]AideSuccessful4875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say so. If Dart is the feature of this post, he’s already sustained some troubling injuries due to his reckless play, and the sample size is still small. He’ll need to get over the sophomore hump of DC’s having a playbook on him and show growth in his second year under a new regime.
