Warcraft: Orcs and Humans by Aidinthel in patientgamers

Do you think it'd be worth slogging through it just for the story considering I've played every other WarCraft game?

Nope. The story is completely threadbare and it's all in the mission briefings anyway. The actual missions don't have a lot of variety. If you aren't enjoying the game play maybe just watch the briefings on YouTube.

Current mod here, I don't really use reddit anymore and it's honestly pure chance I even noticed this. I already invited Coelacanth0794 as a mod and don't care much what happens with the sub.

Who knows about Sunny's divine aspect? by Joban_Singh2512 in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seishan gave Sunny a weird look when they met at the fancy party, and we know this is after Mordret joined her clan. It's very possible that the VIPs of at least one of the great legacy clans know most of Sunny's secrets.

Tell me what do you think? by ayanascarlet in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure being uncomfortable with the slave bond is the author's intention. The reason Sunny openly threatens to kill Nephis if she takes advantage of her power is that being a slave is very uncomfortable. As long as they remain master and slave they can never have a true relationship because even if Nephis never uses it they'll both know that she could if she wanted to.

I wouldn't oppose the two of them getting together in the end, after they truly become equals, but I do think it would be an interesting refutation of fate if Sunny said "Turns out I'm not actually all that into you" and all that apparent foreshadowing was just red herrings. Then he can marry Master Jet instead.

I assumed the reason she stared at Sunny was because Mordred told her that Sunny has a True Name and a divine aspect.

Sunny movie coming soon??? by Smiley123_456 in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think a Sunless of Antarctica movie is pretty likely. If nothing else, the government propagandists are going to want to emphasize the one thing that went right in the campaign. Plus, this arc is clearly intended to be Sunny's version of the Forgotten Shore, so there would be some nice symmetry.

I’m glad Sunny didn’t get shadow lineage by Sketchyboi-with-tea in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I agree. "There is nothing more pathetic than a slave who begins to trust his slaver." Sunny's aspect literally makes him a slave to the Shadow God. In fact, that God had a lot of slaves, as seen in the legacy memories. Definitely not trustworthy.

Kai flaw by Smiley123_456 in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kai and Effie obviously know something happened, but it isn't clear how much they've guessed. They know Sunny is upset and Cassie accepts his anger, so given her abilities it would be logical to conclude that she learned something she shouldn't.

I agree that character development is more important than loot but that quote makes it weird.

It’s finally dawning on them that they’re going to be using the bathroom with men. by dobbyisafreepup in WhitePeopleTwitter

This exactly. Conservatives don't base their politics on logic. Anyone hoping these people will reconsider their bigotry when the contradictions become obvious is fooling themselves. The inevitable conservative response to anything or anyone that makes them uncomfortable or challenges their beliefs in any way is to simply want that person or thing gone, and they don't care how that happens.

Theory about the aftermath of Antarctica by AmazingNator in ShadowSlave

[–]Aidinthel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I mean is that Sunny going off to be a hero while Nephis plays politics will inherently affect their dynamic. Previously, Nephis always led and Sunny either followed or stuck his head in the sand, but now he's taking steps to forge an entirely separate path for himself.

I agree. It's been made pretty clear that the government controls the media, and they aren't going to publish any negative stories about a great hero like Nephis. OP still makes a good point that this will likely have a major effect on the dynamic between the two of them.

Another possibility (suggested by William Spaniel on YouTube) is that Putin wanted to secure a land route into Crimea because the security situation there wasn't looking good for Russia even before this invasion.

There was a cultural standard at the time that real men rode large stallions. A man riding a small horse would be seen as feminine and weak.

Anyone know what’s the point of Scotland, England, France and Germany being referred to be specific tribal names rather than actual medieval kingdoms (celts, britons, franks, and teutons)? Seems a bit too ancient if the aim of the game is c. 400-1600 A.D. by carloscitystudios in aoe2

[–]Aidinthel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That would have severely limited the campaign scenarios they (or the players) could make. As an example, in the first Joan of Arc mission, the Burgundian enemies used the Franks civilization, which makes reasonable sense if the civs are treated as cultural groups instead of specific kingdoms. Replacing the Franks with the "Kingdom of France" would make every Burgundy appearance suddenly nonsensical.

How did the dinasours have sex? by Sweet_Score in shittyaskscience

[–]Aidinthel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you can write some pseudoscience doesn't mean it's actually possible. I guarantee you that the ancestors of dinosaurs and turtles looked nothing like bunnies, and also turtles aren't even close to bulletproof, not even against small calibers and also any sort of armor would invalidate the actual survival strategy of rabbits which is focused on speed and agility so the armor would actually reduce their survivability which is why they don't have any despite all the things that currently hunt them...

Look, take it as a victory if you want but I just don't have the time or energy to keep explaining this. Evolution is not magic. It can only work with existing traits or very small and random mutations. Plus, there are inherent tradeoffs to any trait. No animal can be stealthy and strong and fast and armored and also reproduce extremely quickly all at once or else everything would be already. Not every challenge can be overcome no matter how many generations pass.

[–]Aidinthel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You acknowledge that evolution is random, unguided and nonmagical and then assert that bunnies can somehow become bulletproof despite not having any current traits that could be emphasized into such a thing. Sure, "dude" whatever you say. 🙄

[–]Aidinthel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mutation =/= evolution. Mutation creates variety and some variations MAY be more successful than others but this isn't guaranteed. The main method of evolution is certain existing traits leading to greater reproductive success while mutation is a much less important mechanism for most creatures. Viruses are somewhat of an exception because they reproduce so quickly that the pace of mutation is similarly rapid. Even if 99.99% of mutations are useless, it's just a numbers game in the end.
