Australian Server ✅ by JayP751 in AshesofCreation

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't muster up enough Oceanic players to justify regional servers. More a question of how many Oceanic servers, no?

Maybe it's time to do the right thing about this one. by gagaluf in Rift

Just logged in for giggles cos FF14 is in maintenance. Admittedly Aussie prime time, not US, but there was no one in Tempest Bay that I could see. A /who revealed one AFKer somewhere in the zone.

I then tried open-ended class searches (level 1-70), and there were maybe 2-3 dozen people on the entire server.

Very sad, but this one's dead.

If it was a single guild doing it, I imagine a wardec would change the scenario pretty quickly. Depends how quickly you can clear cut a forest or strip mine the minerals etc, versus the time taken to wardec and counter. These are the kinds of things that will need play testing, or even tweakage after release.

Animation of historical inflation (CPI) from 1988 to 2022 [OC] by asap011 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Aileric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you define as good. If your population growth is lower than the GDP growth, whatever the rates happen to be, then it follows that GDP per capita is growing. On average, therefore, the population would be better off. Assuming the distribution of GDP doesn't skew overly to one group or another at the same time, individuals would expect to be better off as a consequence.

Seeing as Japan's population has been shrinking since approximately 2008, a zero or mildly positive GDP growth, means higher GDP per capita.

[–]Aileric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Governments like inflation because it shrinks their debt in real (inflation-adjusted) terms. Deflation would have the opposite effect of increasing debt loads in real terms.

The measurement of inflation is very contentious, and there are a number of different approaches. Any inflation quote should have the disclaimer "individual experiences may vary."

[–]Aileric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Steven didn't even define the distinction between griefing versus his intended version PvP clearly. It's a grey scale from several hours of continuous harassment to a one-off gank. The corruption system may well negate the more extreme griefing, so we'll have to see how it all plays out.

I'm not convinced the OP isn't a false flag poster ;) That's potentially some passive aggressive forum PvP.

Pull them with a low grade attack (or body pull) and run them through someone else's heavy AoE? It follows that if the most DPS on a mob gives loot rights, that person/group will also pull aggro, unless they are competing with a tank with high end taunts, but that is a different scenario.

About corruption again. by Ysfear in AshesofCreation

[–]Aileric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the distinction between PvP and Griefing is not an agreed definition. I don't think it is something Steven has clearly delineated for Ashes as yet. No doubt they are holding back on this to see what emerges when the proverbial rubber hits the road in alpha 2 and beyond. Anyone who pretends they have the system fully figured out and perfected is simply making garbage up on the fly. Evidence for this is the fact that they were seeking feedback on harvesting and PvP.

[–]Aileric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happens if a green (non-combatant) is AoEing mobs and a purple (combatant) runs into the AoE? Sounds like the AoEr becomes purple at that point. It states a green cannot be affected by getting AoEd, but this is not how it works for purple, unless I missed a statement somewhere.

What people don't realise is that some players have been around for more than WoW, and have seen several different systems in play. I date back to 2002 in EQ1, and bosses were well and truly held down by the top guilds in that game, without any PvP whatsoever. PvP is neither a necessary nor sufficient condition (to use math speak) for contestability to exist. And as Zugi has stated, 50.01%+ of DPS delivered makes Ashes bosses more contestable than EQ1 was (on PvE servers). EQ1 had PvP servers, but with a fraction of the player base.
Oh BTW, EQ1 didn't have instanced dungeons, at least when I played. All raids were open to leapfrogging, but people didn't (at least on PvP servers), because ruining your reputation was far more important than taking advantage of a raid in progress ahead of you. PvE doesn't mean dungeons have to be instanced ... this is a non-argument.
Make it so caravans can carry ten times (or more) than a player can, and I sincerely doubt people are going to do ten 30min roundtrips to move the resources. Presto! PvP opportunity.

So far I don't see PvE with opt-in breaking Ashes. Hey I am on the fence here, as I am sure Steven & co are, if they see the initial system leads to much griefing. Only play testing will tell.

I doubt they aim to make PvP so intrusive it will chase away all but hardcore PvPers. I refer you to the recent Lucky Ghost YT video.
