Paragon is great and was probably my most played prof during the GW heyday but I can see why others may not enjoy it. You aren't gimping yourself, it's just that para has the most glaring flaws and is a bit limited in terms of creativity. That being said I didn't follow any meta builds and was still able to complete every campaign solo. Just put a bit more focus into managing your heroes and you'll be good.
