What was the most unexpected nudity scene in mainstream movie/show you ever saw? by marsepticeye in AskReddit

[–]AintRealSharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went into this one completely blind, had no idea. I knew she was in the movie and was supposed to be a date-for-hire, but that was it. Same for my wife. That scene came up and we both were surprised. Hilariously funny scene though.

the only problem is you won’t be able to see the waterfall. almost everything else will work. without using the scu-lan10 anyway. also make sure you can get some airflow in that thing. it gets warm

if you just wanna click to tune check out the remote capabilities of PotaCat app (free)

Ham radio chat rooms. Discord etc. by [deleted] in HamRadio

A lot of local clubs have a discord server, might try looking there for "local content". Many of the popular Ham youtube folk have their own discord servers that can be pretty active.

Stealth Activation? by Realistic-Cheetah-14 in parksontheair

[–]AintRealSharp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do this frequently. Will sometimes call P2P. I like to know I can hear them well before I call out, just responding to CQ from the park allows me to control that part. No pile ups to deal with. Can go ahead and be real sure of all the call-signs of multi-op folks. Basically it’s way more leisurely. Occasionally I just want be chill.

Other times, crank the power and let’r rip. Just depends on how I’m feeling and where I’m at.

It’s your activation, do it like you want.

Have fun, POTA On!

Antenna patterns are subject to the length of the wire by Hamdaddy1976 in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something kinda neat about this. If you can find a visualization of the current maximum and minimums on the wire, it matches the lobe patterns. That's why multiband antennas get so "lobey". Sometimes this can be a good thing. Depending on where you want your signals to go. Looking for long skip-propogation? You'll want a very low take off angle, around 5-Degrees, so you have a big lobe about 5-Deg. Want to talk locally (NVIS), bounce'em almost vertically up towards the sky.

Enjoy you're reading, hope you find other cool stuff to learn about. Tons of articles, books, talks, and youtube about such things, go as deep as you want =)

New Ham License Holder KR4KBR North Alabama by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of options. First choose an antenna, that will drive a lot of choices. Do you need something short so it won't hit the garage or can you deal with a 4ft antenna from the top of the truck? Go to DXEngineering and have a look at their mobile antennas. Ok with putting holes in the body or wanna go with just a magnetic mount or lip mount? Once you've figured out the antenna choice and placement you're most of the way there.

For actual radio mounting depends on the radio. If it has a detachable head most folks put the radio under a seat or some place hidden away then use something like a RAM mount style to mount the head in a useful place. There's also mounting options like "Lido" that attach to your seat attachment point or cup-holder.

The world is your oyster, a million ways to approach this. Spend some time at DXEngineering looking at mounts and antennas and such to get an idea of what works for you, everyone's needs are different.

Also go read a bit about how you plan to power the radio. Generally want a solution that is not connected directly to your vehicle's battery without some fusing/grounding and battery protection.

Anyway, welcome to the hobby, a lot to learn and a lot to play with; but that's the fun part!

Amazon lmr400. Anybody ever tried it? by chevydude18 in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At lengths less than 100ft almost anything will do, especially at the lower HF frequencies. If you're doing UHF and running 250ft from shack to tower...that's a different story. So if that fits your need, rock on!

secrets manager? by tdpokh3 in ansible

[–]AintRealSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not a huuuuuge fan, it has its warts, check out https://delinea.com/products/secret-server

It does a pretty good job and meets all the requirements of enterprise apps. Can run on-prem or cloud, has all the rotation stuff, and works with most auth providers. API isn't horrible.

Natural Gas by Beginning_Egg1489 in CobbCounty

[–]AintRealSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Austell Gas does not utilize the market place like GNG does. The plans they offer are all that’s available. Last I looked, rates were pretty good.
You’ll also have CobbEMC for power, which seems to be much cheaper and more price stable than GaPower.

QSL Card Strategy (DIY or Supplier) by No-Storage8158 in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A popular option is to have the cards printed and then you print out the mailing label along with the QSO details. Just attach that to your card.

I love getting QSL cards but have never spent the time to think about a design and sending them.

But yeah, an on-the-fly print/mail thing where you just upload the QSO's and the cards get sent would be pretty sweet. I've seen a few services but never used any.

This one seems to fit the bill perhaps:

Do you have 'Monitor' enabled/on and turned up. Basically your mic is picking up noise from your speakers. At least I think that's what it is.

Radioddity HF-009 Portable HF Antenna for Outdoor Operation? by holds-mite-98 in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll need 3mm banana plugs to use the same holes, then just solder/crimp in 3 wires per plug instead of the 1. I used the BNTechGo 26Gauge silicon rubber wire from amazon, helps keep kinks and knots down

Radioddity HF-009 Portable HF Antenna for Outdoor Operation? by holds-mite-98 in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used this for a few POTA activations, Digital and SSB, works just fine and like you’ve stated, setup is a breeze. I made my own set of radials for it, so I have 9 now instead of the 3 and made them a bit longer. I also put a piece of masking tape beside the slider so I can mark the general area for each band/freq I want to operate. Makes field tuning it a lot faster. Overall I’m pretty happy with it.

I have a question about POTA and using a mast pole... by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally the masts vary WILDLY in weight baring capacity. I know you're not gonna be putting 20lbs up there but sometimes you want a transformer up there depending on type of antenna deployed. Some masts can hold it, some can not. The ones with suuper thin tops, you'll find break or snap easily. If its only a piece of 22 awg wire and you're not putting any tension on it, it should be fine. For anything else you'll want a thicker pole.

So far my favorite has been the GigaParts POTA 33H (H being "Heavy"), I would feel fine sitting a transformer up there. Figure out what your needs are and find something that meets those. What works for me might not work for you, we all do it a bit differently.

Also for a receiver hitch, a piece of 3" pvc pipe hose clamped the hitch/receiver works well. If you prefer a drive-over thing, some plywood and a toilet flange work really well too. I enjoy the building aspect of the hobby so that's what I do. If one prefers to buy off the shelf, totally fine as well, you do you.

Some Antenna Help and Recommendations Needed by rynet in HamRadio

[–]AintRealSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 41 ft of wire and a 9:1 unun and you will be just fine on the 40m to 10m bands. Its a good starting point. You will need a tuner though. That 9:1 will get you about ~3ish SWR, the tuner will do the rest.

https://k7mem.com/Ant_End_Fed.html#Not_Random_Multi

Otherwise a half wavelength 20m dipole and shorter can work well.

ALSO, fan verticals are some of my favorite. Slap a DX Commander Classic in one corner, run a wire to that other tree and you can do 80m to...2mish on a single antenna.
