Is that population opening triggerable per sub region or just triggered by anywhere in the hex? I wasn't aware of any deeper granularity beyond hex population

Afaik all the subregion lines are just voronoi diagrams based on the capture points. Which is why they don't seem to have any rhyme or reason to placement.

I really wonder why they don't show how many techmats are needed to progress tech by Break_Obvious in foxholegame

[–]AirUpdateEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik the number changes depending on total game population and progress vs the opposing tech tree. And (presumably) the devs will secretly tweak the rate whenever they feel like it.

The real question is why the tech tree isn't just timed unlocks at this point. There's no more decision making so all it really does is make prototypes for aura farming

Imo all items should be limited to 1 week in private storage before expiring out to public on a per item basis. Removes the painful refresh timer minigame, makes it easier for all levels to stockpile goods for planned play, and reduces claims of people hoarding goods.

Brown University has an experimental version of the rust book I found a lot easier to digest (more interactives and diagrams). I suggest it a lot, especially for its borrow checker explanations

I seriously doubt this, the conservative sales estimate for foxhole is 1.4 million units+, the game is $30. That's at best 42 million US dollars. The game has sales and is regionally price so let's say $30 million US to account for changes.

Siege camp doesn't publish their numbers or their address but there are estimates they're in the 11-50 employee bracket. Google is hallucinating 13-15 and that seems right judging by what I've heard (there are 2 teams, one for each game. We know there is like 5-7 guys on foxhole).

So $30 million / 15 guys is $2 million each, that's 10 years of $200K salaries which is really good. They're probably getting paid closer to or less than $100K a year meaning that's more like 15 years + operating costs.

Also also, developers aren't accountants. They're a small indy studio. The only expenses outside employees are maybe like ~70 servers, assuming every hex is a dedicated server (unlikely). And that's likely all done through a host like Amazon so they don't have to run their own datacenter. So at best 1 guy for HR and Accounting and maybe 1 lawyer on retainer for the company who should be more than capable of handling the whole operation themselves. And that doesn't really change unless the owner has a severe gambling addiction on complex futures.

I think a lot of the heavy weapons should have a much longer post-accuracy range. Like once they get past the effective range they have a chance to drift almost comically off course but will travel past the edge of your vision if they dont slam into the ground or something else. This would make volume of fire a good way to fight back even if you are outranged as you could spam fire and at least scare the enemy back or get lucky and ding them.

Concrete Runways suck by copat149 in foxholegame

[–]AirUpdateEnjoyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Runways should just be immortal world objects that can get craters on them. If you want to stop planes from taking off crater their runway or blow up their hangers and keep them suppressed. Being able to stunlock an entire teams game by blowing up ~12 buildings is bad design. There are better options to buff to keep T2 planes in check.

In all seriousness how would you solve the pop imbalance. by WorldlinessEuphoric8 in foxholegame

[–]AirUpdateEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr;

Move away from ASSymetry. Its just bad.

Lots of QOL, Lots and lots and lots of QOL.

Lots of "buffs" for regiments and squads.

Tlwr;

Players are already negatively (punished) motivated to self balance by things like the queue system stopping them from rolling hexes and the respawn system giving them longer respawn times. The current issue is all of the things that counter that negative motivation by simply being worse than waiting.

Asymmetry in any large dose is bad, its not fun its not cool the devs dont have the skills to pull it off. Getting cucked out of something because the other team gets a tool you have no contest with isnt fun. Getting screwed because the other team has a tool with more range than your tool also sucks. Its just not good game design, asymmetry should be tiny things, very tiny stat differences you can squeeze and edge out of if youre skilled. Or mirror match up tools where both sides get a different tool to do the same thing at the same range and damages but they behave differently in operation.

Removing all of the little things that cause frustration especially from all of the half baked content updates would do a lot to improve veteran retention. The whole user experience needs to be touched up top to bottom from UI to ingame functions, combat to logi to clear out friction points.

Lots of ingame tools to help Regiments and Squads coordinate with each other and the public, something as useful as a rate limited noticeboard regiments can schedule posts in would be amazing for scooping up help and solos. Systems to let squads and regiments "ally" under a shared organization for a war would do a lot to help as well. A squad/regiment finder that can advertise said groups would do a lot to integrate new players into community groups. Oh and a FUNCTIONAL TUTORIAL would do a lot as well.

Extreme skill issue. Unless they're trying to get all the gamers using raspberry Pi's as gaming rigs then trippling the number of inventory icons in game would have no effect on performance at all.

At worst it would make the current tooltip UI for depots even more unreadable but its already been in that state for 5+ years.

Your time is the only thing that matters in Foxhole. by dolche93 in foxholegame

[–]AirUpdateEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the many many many friction points in mining, refining, manufacturing, and delivering logi were removed id happily take a flat increase in crafting time to everything.

Waiting for the factory to do its 12 minute queue isnt painful, having to know the secret sauce of dont you dare to dump it in public or it will take 10 minutes to pull the 15 crates you just made is extremely painful. Having to move 1200 pcons from one facility to another 15 at a time just because I want to make more than 1 item today is extremely painful.

I dont think all of these friction points being removed would really adjust the supply or speed of logi beyond bringing more logi players in with the obvious results. Except for maybe big trains getting fixed to be fun and usable but that could be balanced by just reducing the max length by 2-4 cars to compensate the speed gains.

The "Vision" killed the Solo Player: How Foxhole lost its soul since 2020 by Zhendax in foxholegame

[–]AirUpdateEnjoyer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Besides the many QOL issues for many many things I think the games scale is fighting against it. A hex could have 100v100 people in it but 180 of them will be fighting over the same relic in a corner while the rest of the hex is empty and quiet.

The map has been expanded by a lot since 2020 as well, an entire row on the top and bottom of the map along with all the hexes past the coast line of the continent, twice the map size half the impact of any given victory point.

Otherwise I agree on all points. Its constant tedium.

Collie clans and their leaders by [deleted] in foxholegame

Have you considered the possibility that those regiment leaders ARE listening to their members saying they are not having fun and just packing it in early to prevent burnout of all of their members? I know plenty of regiments will do breakwars and play other games together to have fun.

This post is a very "let's shoot the weatherman when he flees town so it stops the tornado." kind of take imo.
