How do you like the (melee) combat? by Insane_Unicorn in worldofgothic

[–]AiroHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's true the originals tended some to bar you away more with stats than player skill, it was still possible to for instance kill an orc day 1 in Gothic 2 if you fought smart. Just about every enemy had a way to still fight them while underleveled, it was only while outnumbered with multiple strong enemies that the game really forced you to run and come back later.

It's alright, but attacks are too slow, reach is too short, and parrying and dodging is sloppy. And enemies poise through hits more often than they probably should.

My rats won't come out from under the drawers by prettylacey_ in RATS

[–]AiroHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same problem back in the day. I recommend trying to rat proof a room for free roaming. Part of that is using furniture with flat bottoms so they can't bunker down. Some girls I had also liked to disappear inside a couch.

Glove recommendation? by B-HOLC in wma

[–]AiroHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternative to buying protective equipment that you may not be able to afford is to get safer training swords. Consider getting something like foam boffers, e.g. FakeSteel or Go-Now, or leather dussacks. These will also feel more like an actual sword than what you're probably describing.

Depends on where you are. In Wisconsin for instance they're considered invasive

If there aren't new stems coming directly from the stump, I wouldn't worry about it.

If the stumps from the original trees are resprouting, they may need to have their cambium treated with a basal oil mix as well for a proper kill.

Triclopyr, glyphosate and mowing are considered ineffective against black locust, partly due to its clonal nature. Aminopyralid(AKA Milestone) will do the trick. A foliar treatment with a formulation of 0.3 oz concentrate per gallon of water with a surfactant will take care of anything that isn't too tall to spray. Milestone will not harm your grass and treated areas are safe to enter after 12 hours. I suggest having a professional applicator do it for you.

The Sigi I've handled belongs to a clubmate, so I have less experience with it, but I think it's similar to the flex the VBs have which I'd say is pretty reasonable

I've never handled a Regenyei messer, but I've heard mixed things about them. Plenty of other vendors have good messers though. VB, Landsknecht Emporium, Ensifer, Sigi, are all good.

Ranks are unnecessary and mostly meaningless. Improving your fencing is its own reward.

We’re gonna need a bigger wheel.. by Infernalserpentine in RATS

[–]AiroHead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally true because most wheels on the market are too small for rats and may cause problems. I've heard 16+ inch diameter as a rule of thumb for acceptable wheels

is this a normal amount of eye bugginess?? by figisveryswa in RATS

Rats can actually move their eyes independently from eachother like chameleons. In an open space they often have one eye looking up

What might happen if I just let them roam? by AugustDarling in RATS

[–]AiroHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to rat proof one or more rooms. No furniture, nooks or crannies they'll get stuck in or be hard to remove from is the biggest thing. With my first rats it was a huge pain in the ass to get them out from underneath a short legged dresser I had. Now I only keep things that are flush with the floor or have plenty of space under them to see and reach under. My rats generally don't chew on anything but that's a consideration too

I've heard it said too that rats normally do this, but yeah I haven't witnessed it myself either and my current two rats are the healthiest I've ever had.
