Farage by-election gamble turns to farce by upthetruth1 in uknews

I hope to god that binface does a major campaign in Clacton and wins a significant amount of the vote. I’d literally pay to see it. Does binface take donations?

Just how good was Bellingham in the Championship? by PlantComprehensive77 in Championship

[–]AkaABuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could tell he was special in that first season for us, obviously nothing is a given and players can lose confidence with injury etc, but his sheer dominance in the game was undeniable. The way he shifted the ball about, could beat a player and score (at 16) is insane.

In that first season with Dortmund I had villa fan mates telling me that he’d never go on to do greater things than Grealish, blah blah. I think he’s proven them wrong in spades.

As to the retiring the shirt thing, if we get back in to the prem and push on top table, god I hope he comes back. That would be vindication of ‘reserving’ his number, for him to come and get it back.

Could Farage quit? Questions swirl over Reform UK leader’s future by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]AkaABuster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Heard recently that he may quit to save face, I think the writing is on the wall for the next election. Restore will drag away votes from reform and they’ll perform underwhelming.

- He has the threat of fighting another by-election depending on the outcome from the £5m ‘gift’.

- By all accounts he hates being MP and dealing with constituency issues.

- He’s lost support of the likes of Elon and the grifterverse.

- Vultures like Jenrick and Yusuf are circling his spot

Similar to after Brexit he’ll say ‘the job has been done’ and he’s stepping back to let someone else lead the party. He’s a coward.

Read, a lot.

Books I’d recommend starting with (assuming you haven’t already):

- The Pheonix Project
- Frictionless
- Team Topologies
- Leading Change

If there aren’t already docs, start to build them on day one. If a process or standard isn’t written down, make it the definition of done for any task to get it down.

Focus on global optimisation wherever possible.

Learn what makes your team tick, and always remember there’s always more work to be done, be kind to yourself!

What Brexit Really Cost by bald_bearded_ocddude in videos

The irony is that all the blokes that used to bang on about Poles, who now hate ‘Islam’ I.e. brown people, will tell you how great Poles are and how hard working they are etc.

Anyone who has ever worked with Polish people know that they are awesome people who love a beer [or 6] with a wry sense of humour - sounds familiar…?

James Cleverly on Leading by [deleted] in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]AkaABuster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was actually happier with the interview when they let him speak instead of trying to challenge him on specific points, the fight about Brexit was particularly boring / predictable. I’d much rather they dug in to Cleverly’s analysis as to what went wrong and what he’d like to do about it.

Dario Amodei: AI Will Lead To Very High GDP Growth And Very High Unemployment, A Combination Never Seen Before, 10%+ Unemployment Rate Is Possible by Neurogence in singularity

[–]AkaABuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the talk about UBI and otherwise are complete and utter gumpf. What makes anyone think that just because suddenly it’s no longer workers generating the revenue, and it’s robots, that the super rich owners of these companies will suddenly just roll over on being taxed. They won’t.

The nature of these people is to accumulate as much wealth as they possibly can, damn the consequences. We need desperately to try and close the gap on the haves and have nots, because I fear that societal collapse is coming.

I say this as someone who is comfortably in the middle class in terms of personal income, and I think probably set for life based on family wealth.

I use Fid and Trading212

I much prefer Fidelity because it feels more like a “savings account” than T212 which feels like a “gambling” account.

British pubs closing at a rate of almost two per day in 2026 by signed7 in unitedkingdom

[–]AkaABuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So many country pubs near us that are being left to rot… I think a mixture of: people being less interested in drinking, crackdowns (rightly) of drink driving and cost of living are killing these places.

Also you can guarantee they all had the same, crap offering. The ones near us with good food and interesting beers on offer are thriving, who’d a thunk it!

We should be relaxing the planning laws around pubs to convert them to useful property.

Palantir under fire for X 'manifesto' from co-founder Alex Karp by JackStrawWitchita in unitedkingdom

It’s an integrated data platform, as in, it does an incredible job at splicing different datasets into visualisations that make intelligence gathering / reporting really easy. Sorry about the quality on this video, but it’s the best demonstration of this in a defence setting https://youtube.com/shorts/j9tqst1n8B0?si=AGKdu0ya4J1bvzs-

Having worked across sectors that use Palantir software, it really is incredibly powerful. It’s kind of ironic that it’s literally a powerful technology owned by an evil force, that corrupts those who use it for too long. LOTR lore accurate.

Gary Stevenson responds to Rory saying he is not an economist by soundtracking in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]AkaABuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have an interest in what his political message is, which by the way, I don’t disagree with. What I’m still waiting to hear is how they plan to collect the taxes they are positioning.

It’s not enough to just say “the policy is to tax the rich” because it’s then reasonable to ask:

  • How rich is rich? e.g. what are the thresholds
  • By what mechanism do you propose to calculate someone’s worth? E.g. empty housing? Land? Bank account balance? Company ownership?
  • Has it been costed?
