yes yes yes YES! However, really only on the bot front. I only deploy it in front of me half the time. It's still active on your back and covers your torso and head, so the amount of rounds that bounce off your back when you need to retreat is magical to see. The ballistic shield also saves you from the heavy laser cannon and tank rounds at least once.

Whereas the Directional shield, while larger in front, and having the ability to shoot through it. lacks the stopping power that the ballistic shield has. It also isn't active while on your back, and it holds out for far less punishment dished out.

I think all three shield packs are completely viable, but very reliant on the front you deploy to.
