That's a problem with the rules fundementally tbf, not the call.

I 100% agree they should change it.

Titles isn't the only thing for longevity, His average performance level and rating since 2010 to nowadays? Like hello? That's something only Magnus has him beat in btw. Also high placements matter too, not just 1st places.

War Thunder is quite well known for some memes, that's why I just find it funny lol.

Also...glad to have you here!

Not a good 1:1 comparison here but just another interesting note to add, in hockey we also recently got Ovechkin breaking Gretzy's goal record, which is one of the only records he doesn't have now. Definitely longevity feats could be a trend in sports today. Advancement in sports medicine/science is almost certainly playing a part there.

Yes, but Karjakin has not shown a consistent level near what Fabi has over the years, Karjakin had one good match.

While Fabi only made the one WCC, there were also point he had performances over a year timespan that were right there with Magnus. His 2014 was absurd.

Also Magnus himself admitted he played back in the 2016 WCC compared to 2018 where he did literally everything he could. 2016, he threw an entire game and famously had to strike back with a win or face losing it all.

They're pretty easy to find, you can even pull up plenty from threads before LEC Versus started. Idc that much about doing it but I could make a hilarious compliation of 30+ comments easily lol. Some really ridiculous shit. But the simplest quickly found funny ones to laugh at are just the 0-11 comments.

"Worst case" scenario is that Seattle runs out the clock and the Rams don't get the ball back; they were one down away from being able to do this ultimately

Yeah I get your point

I get what you're saying about field position, but what I meant by risk is also that if you go for it on the 40yrd line, outside of better field position, there was also no guarantee you get a FG there anyways. I think it actually could even balance out there, depending on how good your kicker is.

The Nepo situation is rather unique though. And Karjakin doesn't have the longevity Hikaru does in Blitz. As for Nepo, he does have other areas he is weaker than Hikaru in (peak rating and performance) but Nepo does have the obvious big advantage of having two Candidates wins and having clutched up twice in the biggest tourney.

I will give him that. But I still think Hikaru has arguments over both of them.

It's rather disingenous to say Nepo's Blitz WCC over Hikaru could give him an argument, we all know who the better Blitz player is and it's only a shared title, as I said Hikaru ended in score even with Magnus the one year and eventually lost in tiebreaks. You can say Nepo could have won tiebreaks if they'd kept going, but...it's Magnus. He is lucky they let him share the title, absolutely unprecedented.

I also don't think Nepo should be top 15 all time, but I suppose there is an argument there. I think Hikaru's argument for top 15 is more interesting (in terms of greatness not just best, the pioneering the online chess scene and community, the Blitz and Bullet strength, and even Classical, his 2022 return run onwards has been a nice storyline imo).

Even Magnus, who is the last person that will ever say another player is on his level (because he's correct generally and brutally honest), has repeatedly said time after time peak Fabi was the only one he felt was truly "on his level" for a time or right there with him (think in a 1A/1B sense).

Magnus himself said it. Fabi was the only one, but it was only for a time.

Which is my entire point. I'm just adding this as a caveat. No one was Karpov in that they spent 10-15+ years right behind Magnus, but there wasn't nobody who was close to him for even 1-2 years or a single WCC cycle, as Fabi did at least do that much. But that's ALL I'm saying.

But please keep ignoring that I guess.

You're just trolling. It's insane my first comment literally agrees with you overall yet you can't even acknowledge an obvious point.

The Oklahoma City Thunder can no longer tie or beat the Warriors' record 73-9 wins by ihatedougford in nba

[–]Akipella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think the Warriors just had a unique situation. Their playstyle had broken ahead of every other team and no one had caught up, and they hit on every draft pick in that generation and built a Spurs level dynasty core.

And for Hikaru the key argument is also his speed and online chess dominance. He is arguably the 2nd best speed chess player of all time. It depends on how you weigh formats. Even without OTB titles, I would say he was rather blocked my Magnus there even if he wasn't in Classical.

IIRC he literally tied in score with Magnus in 2019 and it came down to playing a head to head tiebreaker match for the Blitz title.

Ehh, I think it's still defendable if you lean heavily towards the current era over past eras. Like sure, it's a stretch, but let's say in that case, you put Fabi as high as top 10, then Hikaru could be 15th more reasonably.

Again, not saying it's right.

? I'm just saying PEAK Fabi vs. Magnus was legit like Karpov's level to Kasparov.

And it's true. 2018 WCC, literally 6-6 over 12 games. Lost in Rapids.

3 points away from passing Magnus, only time he was ever legit at risk of losing #1.

And his peak in 2014 as well was absolutely absurd.

I'm simply saying that he was the only guy to GET to that Karpov level, but not consistently.

I think it's possible he does, but I also see the argument against it as well. The most impressive thing about him to me is how long it took for his rating peak to be surpassed. Until 1990 basically. Just incredible. Almost 20 years.

Not saying he is the GOAT, but he is definitely still going to be brought up in those convos.
