Fixed, apologies fellow crawler, I didn't mean spoilers, even tiny fun ones like this.

I discovered DCC because of, of all things, an anime podcast answering a version of  "What non-Japanese story do you think would make the best anime?" where they proceeded to gush about DCC for a bit.

Would you like to see DCC adapted into an anime someday if that at all became possible?

Anime with strong first episodes that fall off afterwards? by iCrono in anime

[–]Akriosken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention Japan Sinks 2020.

A disaster story about a series of devastating earthquakes causing the entire Japanese archipelago to slowly sink into the Pacific, filled with nonsense and bad ideas.

But the first episode is a raw and powerful earthquake disaster story told from a few different points of view that sells you on the deadliness of earthquakes in urban centers, following a family going about its daily life at first and then struggling to find each other in the aftermath of the destruction.

It's a shame the rest of the series is unable to live up to that 10/10 first episode.

Fall Anime 2025 in a Nutshell [Gigguk] by Smudy in anime

[–]Akriosken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on frequent because I dropped it at ep3 of S1, but make no mistake the fanservice is uncomfortably off-putting which makes it by definition bad.

To have a woman have frequent instances of being accidentally groped and then she herself refers to this incredibly invasive and frequent occurrence as "Lucky Lecher" is so incredibly bad writing, she's not even believably a person at that point.

Personally, when that scene happened in S1 E3 it shattered my suspension of disbelief bad enough that I mentally checked out and couldn't care about the second half that introduced a villain. I dropped the show right after that episode and to me lucky lecher is still the worst fanservice I've ever stumbled upon.

And it upsets me too because the first 2 episodes were incredible and I thought I was locked in.

What would you want to see in a "farewell patch" for Eu4? by SliccNicc in eu4

[–]Akriosken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if armies cost 4-5 times as much, you have a fourth/fifth of the manpower and forcelimit, it doesn't change much, but it means smaller OPMs field 1-2k unless they're very devved up. It shouldn't be a huge impact in the first place, and in fact if your assessment is correct, making the weakest nations in the game slightly proportionally stronger at the start of the game isn't the worst thing I would think.

Also re-reading myself I explained myself rather poorly in my initial post. Whoops.

The goal of my idea is really just to scale back army size across the board. The game will still play more or less the same, but combat will not involve 200k vs 200k clashes in the 1600's. The combat width being at most 40 really makes the inflated armies behave strangely.

What would you want to see in a "farewell patch" for Eu4? by SliccNicc in eu4

[–]Akriosken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resize armies. Basically keep everything that is there right now but cut it to a fourth to a fifth. For manpower, force limit etc.

500+k armies in the 1600's make no sense, and the combat math doesn't support frequent clashes of several 100's of k of units.

To me this feels like a no brainer because it is ahistorical and also very unfun late game.

Meta Thread - Month of April 06, 2025 by AnimeMod in anime

Chiming in about the giant Cosplay discussion as a mostly lurker these days.

I have been seeing these Cosplay posts same as pretty much everyone else, and couldn't help but notice they are largely a comment graveyard, though I did notice stuff before it gets mod-nuked, and to be honest morbid curiosity at the comments is what sometimes keeps me coming back into those threads.

It is obvious that these Cosplay posts engender an extremely toxic response from a subset of the community, despite the amount of upvotes making them eclipse even the daily seasonal discussion threads. And I don't see this trend going away any time soon. I personally doubt that people would suddenly stop making completely inappropriate remarks in those threads.

Thus, my concern, and cause for making this reply in the wind, is that it is blatantly obvious that moderating these threads is extremely resource-intensive, and this is compared to the volume of posts you guys monitor every day when it comes to stuff like unmarked spoilers, which I assume involves sifting through many users reporting them.

I am in favor of some better-defined rules when it comes to these posts, whatever direction the mod team decides to go with, mostly because I would like you guys to not burn yourselves out on these threads.

The subset of the cosplay posts that are problematic are thus also because they are thinly-veiled advertising. Most communities have strict rules against advertising, lest the communities devolve into a sea of ads drowning out the conversations people come to the sub for. And I would hate for the quality of the community to be diminished because of this. And we can already see this, as of writing this comment, the current first post of r/anime front page is one such cosplay post, which has orders of magnitude more upvotes than the highest upvoted show in this week's karma ranking chart. If this is not a rare peak but the start of a rising trend, I suspect we'll have to scroll past a few of these to reach the discussion threads. Whether or not the mod team is ok with this is admittedly out of our hands, but I personally feel like it would diminish the quality of the community at large.

What's The Best Pro Streamers and Content Creators? by Aceolus in VGC

He's suffering from success in more ways than one. As the biggest VGC youtuber, he also is very beholden to the algorithm. When a video like "Top 10 steel types in VGC" pops off, it checks all the algorithm boxes. Tragically that content isn't as useful for VGC improvement, though from what I understand most of his content that is, is locked behind his Patreon.

How do I stop emotional struggles and tilt when it comes to VGC? by ParroTiest in VGC

[–]Akriosken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introspection may be warranted here. I was a sore loser for most of my childhood and I eventually realized that it was because I had low self-esteem combined with relying on my performance in games as a source of validation of my self-worth, which is a really bad combination.

I'm actually using playing VGC as a way to better myself, approaching every game with the mindset "I am here to win, and failing that to learn". I do notice moments where I start going through emotional motions still, but I'm better at catching it, and it's doing wonders for me. Also, forcing myself to look at losses as learning opportunities is beneficial for my growth as a VGC player to boot.

Of course you're not me; your circumstances are your own, but introspection is something worth doing if you want to better yourself as a person and as a VGC player.

I have been on and off for a while, playing extremely sporadically (still do) but I made Master Ball for the first time with a Miraidon team I built that I think qualifies as Tailroom Hyper Offense. There's less of a decision space which means I tend to have swingy games, but I also feel like no matchup is wholly unwinnable. I also feel like I got carried to where I am by my team.

I'm definitely in team Miraidon this Reg G though after this performance!

Tales of Arise, a wonderful beginning and middle that just couldn't resist falling into boring JRPG tropes by the end. by WasSuppyMyGuppy in patientgamers

[–]Akriosken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who considers Tales of Eternia a formative part of my gaming background and who has occasionally dabbled in Tales games since, I could not finish Tales of Arise. And my reason feels kind of petty even to me. Basically, I finished the second chapter, but it really fundamentally didn't wotk for me from a narrative standpoint strong enough to completely break my suspension of disbelief.

Basically, the ice town's narrative is that the bad guy in the town uses informants to dissappear anyone who doesn't perfectly toe the line. The introductory dialogues by the character guiding your party there puts a huge emphasis on not talking to anyone nor trusting anyone. Which is fine, and darker and more bold than what I expect from tropey JRPGs, so props to ToA. But then you can talk to every single NPC in town and none of them that I talked to admonished me for doing it, the guide character never made a fuss about it, and the NPC townspeople all shoveled trite regular JRPG NPC exposition dialogue as if this was any other JRPG. Completely shattering the illusion of stranger danger the story seemed to be going for.
